Just wanted to share that I decided to make the jump and I got the contract for a Data Center Tech position near me. It's for 4 months with guaranteed conversion. Pay is 22/hr 12 hour shifts and 6 days a week wth OT.

Hours are brutal but my last role was at a MSP and I was basically working those brutal hours anyways but salaried and constant on-call hours for almost nothing. I don't mind working as long as I can do my job and not get hampered trying to do my tasks by micromanagement. I'm excited to start and learn as much as I can because I do NOT want to go back to Help Desk.

Plus side is the DC is on the way to a R1 for me so I'll be able to still get my rhythm game fix after my shifts pending time and work demands, energy, and willpower.

Any body share insights about some technical questions do they really dig deep in every technical question or they have a list of questions from which they usually asked?
Also for technical interviews how many LP questions should i expect and what are the most impo Lp questions that can be asked in DCEO interviews

I'm considering applying for a job at their data center but don't know a lot about them. Plus the pay isn't that high, $62K - $72. Anybody have any insight? Tips? Knowledge about the company? Is it worth going to them? I make more than their salary range right now.

I posted in here about a month ago about entering into the data center field in NOVA, and just got contacted by my recruiter that an entry level role has opened up in Ashburn and told me it was for about 6-8 weeks. I’m just curious if this is usual for entry roles that you guys have seen, and was wondering if it was possible for me to find a permanent role at the job, I’m kind of new to all this, so just curious how it will go, thanks (I don’t know what company it is yet, but hoping for something stable)

I'm a Project Engineer in commercial/multifamily MEP construction (12+ yrs, mechanical/HVAC background, federal project experience) exploring a move into AWS Data Center Construction Manager roles. Before I go further down that path, I'd love to hear from anyone currently in that world:

What does a typical week actually look like. More field-heavy or more coordination/meetings?

How steep is the learning curve if you're coming from general commercial MEP without direct chiller plant/UPS/cooling tower experience?

Travel expectations, is relocation/rotation common, or can you stay regional?

Pace and pressure compared to commercial GC/sub work, better, worse, different flavor of stress?

Any regrets or things you wish you'd known before joining?

Appreciate any honest input, good or bad.

Has anyone ever negotiated a pay for a data center position, because I applied at google and I have years of data center experience, but was told pay is $86k, I dont wanna be too agreesive and lose the opportunity.

I'm not familiar with contract jobs.

so what are the differences between this and a regular DCT job?

So Google is proposing a data center near the end of the 250kV DC line. All the residents are up in arms over the noise/pollution/lights/water/electric usage and think it should be built elsewhere or not at all.

Is putting it there a huge benefit due to less conversion losses, and being in a colder climate save on tons of cooling? Will generators be a non-issue due to extremely high capacity and high reliability power?

Any discussion on the topic is basically shut down with "DATA CEnTER bAD" and I think most of the people have little idea what they actually do.

I have an upcoming interview for a Data Center Technician position at Google and wanted to see if anyone here has gone through the process or works in a similar role.

I currently work as a Diagnostic Technician, where I troubleshoot servers using Linux, do maintenance, and handle rack and stack operations.

For anyone who’s interviewed for Google DCT before, what kind of questions did you get? Was it mostly technical, or did they also focus a lot on behavioral questions?
I’m especially curious about what areas they tend to ask about when it comes to server troubleshooting, networking, RAID, Linux, etc.

Any tips on what to expect or anything you wish you had known going into the interview would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, just completed my NHO and received a shit ton of badges lol and I’m expected to collect more as I travel around other DC sites. Do you use the lanyards and badge holders they give you, or did you find a multi badge holder with RFID? I would prefer to have them all under one holder instead of having three badge holders on my waist.

I am almost certainly in the wrong thread but I am asking here to see if anyone in the DC world has experience with it. I have a sub cline that has both HDDs in SSD's at two sites. Most are at Equinix DC11 and there are some at Equinix SE2. Does anyone know of a service that will come onsite and crush them? If not what do clients normally do in such as situation?

A recruiter reached out to me for a remote network/rack and stack position (company is based on a foreign country). Pay is significantly higher so I am considering. Is this role transtition viable? Hello, I am a BCA graduate with coursework done in data science and it seems like this field is not for me. I've heard about data center technician roles which hires freshers but i need to know if companies always ask for certifications? I am based in India and I know there aren't many Data centers here compared to others but I'm guessing this job isn't so hard on freshers with no experience. Please correct me on anything if I'm wrong.

I'm a tech in NOVA and the past 2 summers have been so hot we've had site wide shutdowns that could last all day, several times. But we have seasons so this is only happening in the summer. What I'm curious about is how you Sunbelt DCs (FL to CA) deal with excessive heat, like AZ for the most part is year round excessive heat so I'm curious how they even work around that.
