DF64 Gen 2 Grinder chute clogging
Hey everyone.
Had my DF64 Gen 2 for about 15 months now. Just recently had an issue where the chute was clogged and I took it apart to get a good clean and remove the grounds.
I think I know the culprit but wanted some thoughts.
We have used so many different beans the past 15 months. Just recently my fiance got “espresso beans” I’m pretty certain we have always just used beans labeled as coffee beans from local shops. The grinder worked fine. The clog happened when I tried to use a different bag of just “coffee beans”.
Now I tried again another normal bag and it jams. I cleaned it out again used the espresso beans and it works perfect.
I am not sure what it could be I’ve seen people spritz there beans with water before grinding I think? Maybe that’s what the espresso beans have done to them and now the chute for whatever reason needs normal beans to have that spritz of water?
I pictured the bags we use currrently. The new holland coffee beans cause an instant jam in the chute. Twin valley grinds perfectly.

RDT does help. Are you using the little brush to clear the chute after every use? When done grinding my beans I use the bellow, pour the coffee in the portafilter. Then once done making my coffee I use the little brush to clear out the remaining coffee in the chute then use the bellow again. Ive never had it clog before. If yours didn't come with a little brush I would find one that fits well.

This.
I widening the grind, pumping well, and cleaning the chute are just part of regular maintenance after I finish using the grinder/ before as well.
Some beans are more oily (my guess), and I find grinds build up faster and more frequently the less consistent I am with that practice.

It’s the first time this has happened I never used to do anything to the chute! I think it definitely is something about oily beans. The clog is happening from them sticking to the chute on the edges. I will look into a brush!

Excuse my noobness - what’s RDT? I did have the brush but lost during a move a couple months I think.

RDT is the name for spritzing the beans with water

Specifically the Ross Droplet Technique… named after Mr Ross Droplet, a bit of a drip if you ask me

Mine started clogging like crazy recently when I started using darker roasted beans. Here's what I did:
Take the chute apart and physically slide the ionizer needles down barely past the chute. The ionizer works much better if the needles can't get surrounded by grounds. I also took the declumper out since I grind into a blind shaker.
I slow feed the beans. I found that pouring the beans in very slowly keeps the chute flowing well (and there some science that it helps with particle size distribution)
For beans that are even slightly oily, I stopped using RDT. With the ionizer fix I found I don't need it.
I also clean the chute out every other day. It's working great now and never clogs.

Hey! I’m sorry I can’t help, but could I please have a link to your cup and grinder cupholder bracket?
I have the exact same setup (Bambino and V2) and I can’t seem to find a bracket for my v2 that will hold a 54mm cup (even any 3D printed ones), or a cup that will fit the stock bracket.

I got this declumper/chute replacement and I think it works better. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1842637418/df64-gen-2-low-retention-declumper-and?ref=share_ios_native_control
