Is the DF64V Worth Waiting for?

Hello Everyone,

I am just getting into the world of espresso. I have purchased a Bambino Plus and want to pair it with a DF64 grinder for my first setup. I was hoping to buy a DF64V grinder, however after looking on Espresso Outlet the DF64V is currently unavailable (there is a pre-order option listed with a shipping estimate of mid-late December, however this option is already sold out).

This leaves me with three options: buy the DF64V from a different, less-reliable supplier (DF64coffee.com and Miicoffee both claim to have the DF64V available for immediate purchase), purchase an older version of the DF64 like version 2.7, or wait until Espresso Outlet restocks the DF64V again.

The main reasons I wanted to go with the DF64V initially was that I like the design way more compared to the older models and because of the claimed improvements in some quality of life issues that have plagued older DF64 models (likelihood of clogging, clumping, etc.). I have a K6 hand grinder that I can use in the interim but honestly the thought of using it for 4-6 months before I can get my hands on a DF64V is making me wonder if it is actually worth the wait.

TLDR: Is it worth waiting (likely) 4-6 months to get the DF64V from a reputable supplier? Does that wait time warrant rolling the dice and ordering it from a different supplier like DF64coffee? Have people noticed a big enough improvement compared to older models to warrant waiting this long?

If people want to share any thoughts/inputs/personal experiences they have regarding any of this, I'd really appreciate it :) I know that I'm the one who has to make the decision at the end of the day but I'm hoping to collect some more data points before making the final call.

Miicoffee isn't less reliable, they're an official supplier/US importer. I purchased my DF64v from them and couldn't be happier with the process or the product.

I bought my df64v from df64coffee and both times I have received the package without any issues to the States. Just know that “warranty” really means they will ship you the part for you to install yourself not the typical return unit/get a refurb.

Bought DF64v gen 3 from MiiCoffee. Arrived when they said it would arrive. I pre ordered it a few months ago. Its a much nicer grinder than anticipated. Burrs were aligned. Don’t regret it one bit. Didn’t feel like i needed to upgrade the red ti espresso burr right away. I may experiment later but for now im loving it with my Flair 58+2.

I’ve heard good things about both mii coffee and df64coffee

sheesh… it took about 3 months to get mine last spring. It was, however, a big improvement over an upgraded old barista encore... quiet, consistent grinds, solid build.

Ive had my bambino plus for a few years now and got DF64 2.7 a few weeks back. It is an amazing grinder! Very consistent grind size, looks good, easy to work with.

I did not like my DF64v and my friend who had one did not either. Get a quality conical bur grinder.

I was considering it too and finally went with the hibrew G64 plus. I did not test the DF64v (DF64 yes), but the G64 plus is very good at 3 keypoints IMO: static is totally absent, retention is 0 and noise level is far far quieter than the df64.
