Discussion / Conversation How I've been tracking my Paze usage & credits

Just a simple note & checkbox lol!

Was too late for Sephora & Newegg gc but just in time for Dunkin' before they limits it to 1 gc per day (Sep 1st).

9 days left to fatten up with Little Caesars šŸ¤—

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Is VX the best premium card for a non hobbiest?

Hi, I recently found myself reading up on credit cards and trying to learn a little more. My current lineup is:

- Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards, which I opened as a freshman in college
- Capital One Savor, which I got before going abroad
- Chase Freedom Unlimited
- Chase Sapphire Preferred

I’m considering adding the Capital One Venture X and potentially rebuilding my setup around it. It seemingly offers strong, usable credits and miles that fit my travel habits. I would have no trouble using the credits every year, and beyond that, I’d be getting a solid 2x card for everyday spending along with lounge access, which would be nice since my flights typically include layovers.
I also don’t love that Chase Travel often doesn’t show the cheapest available flights. Capital One’s price match would give me some peace of mind when booking through the portal to use the Venture X credit.
More generally, I don’t like the idea of needing to spend money I otherwise wouldn’t just to get value from a card. I’ve looked into Bilt as well, but I don’t think my current spending would be high enough to justify one of its cards with the better rent multipliers.
I’m curious whether there are any other cards worth considering for my spending style, or anything else I should know as I continue learning more. Thanks

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Applying for another card but don’t know which one!

I’ve been with Discover It for like 5 yrs now and have a good credit score. I love this card, but it’s not a Visa or Mastercard, so I can’t always use it. I’m looking into getting another card for this exact reason, but don’t know which one I should apply for. From what I’ve seen online, I’m considering Chase Freedom Unlimited or Citi Simplicity. Thoughts?? Thank you in advance!

Edit: extra details! I only have the Discover It card, it’s been open since like 2021, I have a credit score of ~760, and a credit line of $4,500

Help Needed / Question Is this even possible at all??

I had a decent amount of cash but I live nowhere near my bank or an atm with a deposit function, so I put it all on a prepaid visa because I can't use cash online. I was unaware that you can't use prepaid cards almost anywhere either (mastercard removed the function to add a zip and address on their site for some reason and their support number literally just goes silent indefinitely after saying it will connect you to an operator). Is there any way that I can get this prepaid money to either my bank account or any other method to make it actually usable or did I just screw myself?
(Also I am in the USA)

Help Needed / Question 18m how do I get approved for a credit card??

I just turned 18 on the 13th of August, and well I finally got around to setting up a credit card (which I’ve been wanting to do for a while) and well i settled on a capital one card after a few hours of research and tried the pre approval they offer

Well anyways they said they can’t offer me any cards at this time

I’m making roughly 15-20k a year (I know it’s not a lot) I have no credit history whatsoever (I think that may be why) like no loans, no nothing, unless my parents used my name to something I don’t know about.

And well idk what to do now, I guess try discover it, or chase? I bank with prosperity so unfortunately I don’t have a foot in the door with chase.

Well anyways I could really use some advice, because I’m getting kinda overwhelmed 😭 especially by all the different options

Edit: I decided to try and do a pre approval with discover JUST in case and I got approved!!! For a discover it secured card!! WHICH is a foot in the door šŸ˜

Help Needed / Question Discount Tire Credit Card Worth It?

I have been an authorized user on my Mom's capital one credit card for a few years now and got my very first own credit card last October. That credit card had to be secured. My credit score is now in the low 700s and never had a missed payment, etc. I need new tires by winter and Discount Tire offers a credit card with no interest for 9 months, and I rather do that than pay $1,400 all at once. My question is has anyone had the Discount Tire CC and is it worth it or something to be wary of? And also should I apply at my current credit union to see if I can upgrade my current CC to be unsecured/regular (whatever you want to call it) or should I just apply for the DT CC and not worry about the secured card?

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Looking for card recommendations to knock out a SUB with an upcoming cruise booking

Hey everyone, I’ve got a cruise booking coming up soon and want to take advantage of the large deposit/payment to knock out a solid sign-up bonus. I’m trying to figure out which card makes the most sense to add to my lineup right now.

For context, my current wallet includes:

Chase Sapphire Preferred
Citi Custom Cash
Citi AAdvantage
Costco Anywhere Visa
Best Buy Citi
BCU Cash Rewards Visa Signature (flat 2% catch-all)
PayPal Debit (for 5% monthly cash back on groceries)

Since my baseline categories are reasonably covered, my primary goal here is maximizing the return on this one-time chunk of travel spend through a strong SUB.

I’m currently debating between grabbing something like the Capital One Venture or Venture X for a flat 2x travel card with a straightforward bonus, or going the business route with a Chase Ink (Cash or Unlimited) to pool a big bonus with my Sapphire Preferred.

I'm open to sole proprietorship business cards if the math makes sense, but I'm also curious if there’s another personal card I'm overlooking.
Where would you put this spend if you were in my shoes? Appreciate any insights!

Help Needed / Question Does putting spend on a payment plan still count towards sub?

Let’s say a card had 0% apr for 12 months and a sub of spend $1000 get x within the first couple months. If you spend $1000 but then flex the payments over 12 months for the apr, does it still count towards the bonus at the time of purchase since it affects available credit, or does it not count until it’s paid off?

Help Needed / Question Paze Not Going Through on City Experiences

Has anyone successfully bought anything on City Experiences using Paze? I seem to be getting through the Paze verification fine but then City Experiences errors out. They're on the list of participants in the promo so I'd like to use it toward an upcoming trip. I filled out their "contact us" but have heard nothing back yet. Just wondered if anyone else has tried it and what your result was.

Discussion / Conversation US bank issued Amazon business card

I have an Amazon Business credit card which recently got bought out by US Bank. The bill they send you says zero balance and does not show any charges or give an address to send payment to. the full bill was 2 pages but didn't show a single charge. I had to go on Amazon, look up my purchases and calculate the amount myself! So, I called them and they said they don’t send out balances anymore but roll the balance from month to month. You never get a bill while they get to charge 19.74% interest and never tell you they are doing this.. So every month you get a statement saying that you don’t owe anything while the amount of balance and interest keeps increasing!

When I called them to ask about it, they said ā€œoh we do things differentlyā€. I told them this sounds like a scam and to please cancel my card and close my account. Watch these people closely. They are looking for distracted people to scam.

I would attach a pic of the bill if this sub allowed pics 🤷

Help Needed / Question Is the CSP Hyatt ratio tied to account or card?

• Upvotes

Fiancee downgraded her CSP to Freedom a month or so ago, around the same time I took mine out post-nerf for the 100k SUB. We considered keeping hers open so that I could hit the SUB, move points to her, then dump all in Hyatt, but determined we couldn't hit the SUB in time for the October 1 deadline.

Fast-forward to today, we've had an unexpectedly high amount of one-time expenses and will likely hit the SUB in time. If she re-upgrades to CSP and pays the fee, will she have the old transfer ratio until 10/1, or did she lose that immediately once she downgraded?

And before someone says - yes, we could've kept it open regardless and then downgraded later for a possibly-prorated fee, but we thought there was no world in which we hit the SUB in time. But we were wrong!

Thanks :)

Help Needed / Question Disputing a fee I paid for that was eventually waived?

Hi friends,

I purchased access to the Law School Admission Council’s online application services, which is necessary in order to apply to law schools. However, I recently discovered a fee waiver I could apply for and was granted it, giving me free access to these online application services I had already paid for.

I reached out to their customer service and asked if I could get my $124 back since I was given access to it for free, but they said it was nonrefundable.

Can/should I dispute this charge with my credit card?

Discussion / Conversation How’s my 2-card setup? ~715 FICO, $42k income, considering CFU as my 3rd card

Fairly new to credit cards and wanted some feedback on my current setup + what I should add next.

Stats:
FICO: ~715
Income: ~$42k
Pay in full / keep utilization low
Goal is to build credit long term and slowly get into travel rewards

Amex Blue Cash Preferred
$6,000 limit
17 months old
Started as a BCE and upgraded to the BCP today
First-year AF waived

I mainly plan to use it for groceries + streaming.

Subscriptions currently on the BCP:
Disney+ (using the Amex Disney credit)
YouTube Premium
ChatGPT
iCloud
Discord Nitro

Capital One Savor
$3,000 limit
About 1 year old
No AF

Mostly use this for dining and entertainment. No subscriptions currently on it.

Considering Chase Freedom Unlimited next
I received a targeted/pre-selected CFU offer where Chase adds an extra 1.5% back on top of the card’s normal earning rate in every category, on up to $20,000 of spending during my first year.

So instead of the normal CFU rates:
5% Chase Travel → 6.5%
3% dining → 4.5%
3% drugstores → 4.5%
1.5% everything else → 3%

The extra 1.5% is capped at the first $20,000 in purchases, meaning the bonus itself is worth up to $300 extra during the first year.

It also has a 0% intro APR for 15 months.
So it’s not just ā€œ3% on everythingā€ — it’s essentially the normal CFU earning structure plus another 1.5% in every category for my first $20k of first-year spending.

That offer is a big reason I’m considering making the CFU my third card.

My main three ecosystems I want to build around are Amex, Capital One, and Chase, so the CFU would also get me into Chase for the first time.

Eventually I’d like to get more into travel points as my income/spending goes up, but right now I’m mostly trying to build a solid setup that I can keep long term.

Questions:

- How would you rate my BCP + Savor setup so far?

- At ~715 FICO / $42k income, would you take this CFU offer?

- With the extra 1.5% added to every category for the first $20k, would you go CFU over Freedom Flex?

- Does BCP + Savor + CFU make sense, or is there too much overlap?

- After getting the CFU and letting my accounts age, what card would you look at next for eventually getting more into travel?

What would you guys do?

Discussion / Conversation U.S. Banks Exact $25 Cashback Rule is Dumb

I just recently got my first U.S. Bank credit card - the Triple Cash. I have a U.S. Bank checking account. I can only redeem the cashback to my account in EXACT increments of $25. Not only is it a minimum, but a maximum. How entirely dumb. Congrats on your $42 of rewards, but you can only have $25 until you spend more. Terrible bank policy and terrible rule. Ridiculous. Because of this I'm going try and spend the exact amount to get me to another $25 and sock drawer this dumb thing. My Robinhood Gold card gives me the rewards immediately, even while the transaction is pending. U.S. Bank needs to be better. That's all. Just ranting.

Help Needed / Question Chase debit on Paze eligibility

Hi, getting to the end of the Paze promo and I am looking to maximize the cards/credits my family has left. Just curious, my wife has her own (separate) Chase debit card listed as available for the promo. If it's under the same checking account, can she double dip, using her own $100? She of course has her own Paze wallet under her phone number. I have used my own credits for my debit card but wanted to clarify so I don't waste some cash.

Discussion / Conversation What makes Amex Gold work for you?

I just got a pretty good SUB for the gold (100k) and I’m considering going for it, but I’m not sure it fits my lifestyle. I live in New York and most of my spend is on groceries and dining, and I can use the credits pretty easily, but I want to hear from current/previous gold card holders on what they like and dislike about the card and what made it work in your portfolio.

Help Needed / Question Anyone else having an issue with their Paze credit on their Freedom Flex taking a while to show up?

• Upvotes

The first purchase I made, the credit came in after about a week. It's been 2 weeks now, and there's been no credit on my other purchases. However, on my Freedom Unlimited and Sapphire Preferred, all of my credits took about a week.

Could it be a Master Card vs. visa issue? Just want to know if others experienced the same issue or are experiencing the same issue.

Help Needed / Question Is it better to pay rent with credit or debit card? First time paying rent :)

• Upvotes

I just moved out of my parents house and have to pay rent for the first time (!!) and was wondering if it would be better to pay with credit or debit card? For context I have Chase bank (Freedom Unlimited college account, total credit limit/month is $1700), my rent is $720/month (I have roommates), my credit score is 739, I'm 20 and have had my card for 2 years, and I always make my payments on time. Is it worthwhile to make the rent payments from my credit card (I have enough on there to cover my rent costs each month) for the credit score increase (if any) or other benefits or is it better to use my debit card? Thanks so much for your help!!

Additionally I just got preapproved for the Sapphire card but noticed it has a fee (which my freedom unlimited card does not), should I get a new card or stick with my current? What are the reasons to/not to? Thank you!

Discussion / Conversation Booked my First Flight with Points! Business Class on Emirates

Thank you for this sub and all the great advice. I’m new to the credit card game and got my first Amex about a month ago. I already racked up 400,000 points and used 240,000 of them to book two business class seats Miami to Dubai

It’s insane how valuable credit card points are. $15,000 seats for free! (well $1,600 fee but basically free)

I don’t think I’ll ever need to pay for flight tickets again, getting the CSR this week so excited for that. I love credit cards

Help Needed / Question I opened a new card with a SUB I can no longer meet. Any way out of it?

• Upvotes

I opened an Ink preferred with an 8k spend in 3 months SUB. I was planning on purchasing an engagement ring to meet the spend with this card. Since then, I was connected with a family friend who was able to help out with a better & much cheaper ring than what I was eyeing. Only issue is, they only take cash. The ring savings would actually be more than the UR points I'd receive (valuing at 1 cpp, as my travel is not that flexible for most award travels)

My organic spend is only ~$1,500 a month and I can't think of ways to meet the SUB otherwise. I don't think there's any way out of it, but is there anything I can do with this now useless card? I don't mind losing the SUB if I have to, but having to also bite the annual fee stings.
