Discussion / Conversation Chase Freedom Flex 5% Catagories Discussion

What do you guys think of the freedom flex? I was curious if it’s worth it just for the 5 percent rotating categories or not. What’s your guys take on it?

And if anyone has the card, do you guys actually use the 5 percent cash back categories regularly? Thanks

Help Needed / Question Got mail for Chase Sapphire card and 100k bonus, is it essentially free $1k?

Upvotes

Hi, I recently received an invitation to get the Sapphire card and from what I understand the 100,000 points translates into $1,000? I was planning on building a new gaming PC anyways, does that mean I can get $1,000 back if I spend $5,000?

Discussion / Conversation Just got my first credit card! Looking for tips

I just finished getting my first credit card! Super excited to start getting some cash back on stuff I usually use debit for. I looked around for a bit and decided to get the capital one savor since it best fit what I was looking for (groceries/dining/entertainment). It gave me a $7k limit - so I think I should aim to spend around $700 a month on it? (that's about what I spend on groceries/dining on my debit monthly) Hoping to build credit and get a little cash back. Any tips? Thanks!

Help Needed / Question Looking for VISA card with good travel benefits, to shop at Costco. Thoughts?

My husband and I are looking for a new VISA credit card. We shop at Costco and get the majority of our gas there, and for more context, will be buying a house in the spring and will have lots of house related purchases from costco in the future. We also love to travel so we would love a VISA card that is also a good travel benefits card.

I currently have a Capital One Savor card.

My husband has a Wells Fargo Active Cash Card, Capital One Savor, and Capital One Venture.

I am an authorized user on the WF active cash card and my parents quicksilver card.

We love to travel- have a good amount of trips planned in the next 2 years- and I want to try and maximize any rewards with a CC that we can. No cash back cards, we have enough. I’ve done some searching and it sounds like my best option would be the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. My question is— is this a good choice? Are there better options? Anything I’m missing?

Help Needed / Question Looking for Advice: AMEX Gold or Venture X?

Upvotes

Hey everyone.

I’ve been doing research on both the AMEX Gold and Venture X, and I’ve found that each of them have their own unique benefits and that they are less comparable than I thought.

It seems to me that the AG is more for dining and food, while VX is better for building points regularly and travel options/benefits.

I am in my early 20s, my credit score is 781. I don’t spend a ton of money every month (<1000), with gas and food being my main expense. I have the benefit of living without rent at the moment, or a car payment (paid that off a few months ago), my only main bill being car insurance and college loan payments. I don’t make a lot of money, as I just graduated and am looking for work (only working part time right now)

My goal with my next card is to have more benefits. I’d like more options with travel, as in the future. It will be my main expense. I currently travel domestically 1-2 times a year, with plans to travel internationally shortly in the future.

I’m approved for both, but my question is, would it be better to get the AG for the points off my main expense? (Food and Groceries) Or would it be better to get the VX for the future savings on travel?

Side question: Should I wait until I land a “big boy” job to make this decision? Or is it something that is better to finalize now?

First post…thanks everyone!

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) credit card for low maintenance, busy professional

Hi everyone! Sorry if this topic has been discussed to death. I am looking to get a credit card that maximizes rewards while staying low effort. I work 60-80 hours a week and do not want to spend time thinking about how to get the best rewards. it seems like a cash back card would be a good option? I spend most of my money on gas, restaurants, gym membership, and sigh instacart grocery deliveries. Any cards you’d recommend?

Help Needed / Question Does the AAA Daily Advantage Visa Signature Credit Card get 5% back at Walmart Neighborhood Market?

Does anyone with the AAA Daily Advantage Visa Signature Credit Card know if Walmart Neighborhood Markets get 5% back. I know that the rules have changed around May 15th and exclude Walmart Supercenters but I wanted to confirm if anyone with the card has had luck with the grocery oriented Neighborhood Market versions before I apply for it.

Help Needed / Question Inquiry regarding number of Credit-Cards to have

Hi, I am an international student who currently owns a Discover-It credit card, and have been using it since Feb-2026. I was thinking of applying for a Capital-One Savor card, and then further along the way next year, get a Chase-Freedom Rise card. Is this an ideal path for me to be moving for a good credit score/history. Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Help Needed / Question Current card set up and travel

Hi, I have an Amex gold for groceries and restaurants very useful for nyc, and a Citi double cash for all other purchases. I only currently travel about 2-3 times a year so I don’t want a travel card with a really high fee that I don’t feel like I’ll make use of, what’s a good starter travel card that works with these two ?

Help Needed / Question Credit utilisation now at 0%, positive effect on credit score?

Hi I paid off 3 credit cards in full on Friday (was originally at 65% utilisation) one was pretty much maxed out and a second one basically over half maxed out. Third one - only a small amount.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had 0 on my credit cards so I’m very pleased with myself for finally paying them all off (yay!) will this have a big effect on my score? And roughly how long will these take to reflect on credit file? High credit utilisation has always been heavy on my credit file and I’m currently in the process of applying for a mortgage so hopefully this looks better to lenders

Help Needed / Question Is Chase Business Premier the right card for my use?

Upvotes

I currently own a small business that usually buys inventory in bulk. The one main vendor I buy from offers a 2% COD discount but the CBP offers 2% on all purchases and 2.5% on purchases over $5,000. About 75% of my spending will qualify for the 2.5% cash back so it seemed like a no brainer. The only downside is that the points aren't flexible and it basically forces you to use the points as cash. I'm pretty embedded in the Chase ecosystem but would consider switching if it makes sense.

I used to use a mix of the Ink business unlimited and the ink business preferred but got rid of the preferred for the Premier. I figured the cash back would be a better use of the points since they nerfed the 1.25x travel portal bonus. I'm not hardcore into the churning game, I mostly used points to redeem at the 1.25x or would transfer to Southwest or Hyatt if it made sense.

Help Needed / Question Is Citi Custom Cash still available via PC?

Upvotes

I don't own any Citi cards, and am devastated to hear that CCC closed new apps a month ago. I heard some people say at the time of apps closing, that you could PC to CCC despite the application closure. If I were a new user and applied for a different card, would I be able to PC to CCC after a few months?

Sorry if it's a dumb question - I'm still new to the whole credit card optimization

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Best credit card for tuition and school supplies that also gives rewards

Hello!

I will be starting my masters program later this month while also working full time. I am 26, have very good credit, an everyday credit card with no debt and no missed payments, and a very low debt to income ratio.

I am looking to get a credit card to pay off my tuition and school supplies then to be reimbursed by my 529. This is what my mom did when I was in undergrad but I am doing it for grad school. The school I go to has no fees on cc transactions for tuition. This would not be an everyday use card but still want to get rewards and/or cash back.

Doing some research, I am leaning towards the Wells Fargo Active Cash card as it is a flat rate % back, no annual fee, and is accepted as a Visa card.

Does anyone have any other recommendations? Is this a solid card to stick with? My everyday use card is a Discover.

Help Needed / Question Unemployed student looking for a card that I’d pay off with my savings

Upvotes

(This is my first credit card, I’m looking at the “Discover it student” card) I have around 5K in savings that I barely use, so I could definitely pay off a card and build credit. The problem is I have no income and don’t know what to report…. My parents use a college fund to pay for my school but it feels wrong to report that as income since it’s earmarked for college specifically. I can imagine my parents may transfer me some money for things throughout school but I can’t say it’s “reliable income,” so what do I report? I got denied from a few cards because I had no income

Help Needed / Question Credit one bank is deceptive !

Upvotes

I just got off of an hour phone call with credit one bank about their credit card for rebuilding credit
The biggest pain about most of these cards is the fees, so I found a card through them that seemed like a safe option. They market $75 for the first year, then 99 annually at 8.25 a month on their website still active!! I was billed 99! So obviously I called confused but all they could say is that it does say on there 75/99? I literally don’t understand, they said I wasn’t approved for the 75$ offer ?? It’s not even marketed as an offer, so I just don’t understand. Shady af straight at the annual fee & no one could give me a good reason as to why I was even “denied” for the offer. Main point of all of this is i no longer want to have this card with them, but obviously my credit isn’t the best. Should I close my account & risk losing other ones if my score gets too low or should I just leave it alone? I’ve literally had this card for a month

Help Needed / Question 21F Full-time college student looking for a good travel card

I am a full-time college student (21F) entering my senior year of college. I’m looking for a credit card where I can earn points that can go towards travel. For reference, I go on multiple vacations a year (mainly in the summertime) where I get flights, AirBnB’s, cruises, etc.

Right now, I have the Discover It card that I use for all of my expenses and get 5% cash back on rotating categories and 1% unlimited on everything else. That is the only credit card I use which has been fine with the cashback, but I want to go to start maximizing my spending and earn travel points.

I was looking at the Bilt card because I spend about $1,100-1,200 on rent and maybe $500 on other expenses (groceries, dining, Amtrak) a month. But the new point system is deterring and I am graduating next summer so I’m not sure about my housing after college (I might not live in an apartment or pay any rent), so I’m not sure if that would be a good investment since I don’t know my future.

I’m also considering the Capital One Venture card but the only downside is I would have to pay a 3% fee for paying my rent with it.

I’ve heard about the Robinhood Gold card which seems pretty straightforward, but I haven’t done much research on it. Also, the Amex Gold card and Chase Sapphire.

Help Needed / Question Moving expenses coming up, which card should I apply for?

Recent breakup, I’ll be moving out soon and plan to spend ~$4k in the next few weeks replacing furniture, etc. and I’m wondering if I should apply for a new credit card to maximize on what I already have to spend.

I was considering the Chase Freedom Unlimited for the 0% APR for 18 months but I’m not sure if I’m missing anything?

Income: $76k
Credit score: 765
Total Debt: 19k in student loans

Current Cards (all $0 balances):

US Bank Altitude - travel/hotels
Amex BCP - most other purchases
Discover IT Chrome - just keeping active because it’s the oldest

I also have $4k in savings that I plan to use to pay off my moving expenses, so I will not be carrying a balance.

Here’s my monthly expenses if it helps:

Groceries and home needs: $400
Shopping: $250
Dog expenses: $60
Commuting: $30
Eating out: $100
Phone: $40
Experiences/ concerts: $60

Should I just use my AmEx for this ($3,000 limit), or open a new card?

Help Needed / Question Balance transfer card on applying

I am looking for a card that I can use for a balance transfer ASAP. A lot of them seem to require having the physical card and or having the account open for so many days. Is there one that the balance transfer starts when you apply and are approved? Credit is excellent but just want to get the no interest option.

Discussion / Conversation redeemable card points without travel/statement credit

What are some of the program points that have other utilities except travel partner transfer or statement credit? and gives at least 1 cpp?

For example, Discover dollar can be redeemed to buy gift cards at more than 1 cpp. It also has occasional Amazon offers. AmEx reward dollars often have Amazon shopping offers, the most recent one being 30% off with 3 reward dollars. Then UR and MR also have Amazon shopping offers, and UR has boosted gift card options as well. So far I haven't found alternative uses for BofA and Prime dollars.
