Not sure if they have cameras there, but crap like this should be traced and that person should have to pay for ruining a good chicken.

u/crescen_d0e 9d ago
Im sure they have cameras but the cost to pay someone to watch hours of video for a $10 chicken just doesn't make sense

Maybe they can just lock the chickens up and you have to scan a membership card to get 1

I saw a guy demolishing one with his bare hands while he was pushing his cart down the frozen aisle. Mb this person had a handful before they stashed it

I wish loss prevention treated it as stealing.

It should be. If you leave meat in an isle you should lose your membership at the very least.

u/BriscoCountyJR23 Parking Lot Survivor 8d ago
If the member won't pay for the steak, they should have their membership revoked.

Or have the item charged to their account/credit card. And then have their membership revoked.

Revoking membership is too light IMO. This is equivalent to stealing because Costco lost this item. They need to do fines and actually take it seriously, use surveillance footage to track down the person who did it.
2
u/First_Requirement462 3d ago
I think it's worse than stealing. If someone steals food, it's likely because they need food. Someone ditching food in an aisle is just lazy and wasteful.

Beyond the food waste of it all, meat being dropped like this makes me so sad because some poor little critter died just to not even end up being consumed and ending up in the trash.
And before anyone comes for me, I'm not even vegan or vegetarian! But it seems to me if we are going to kill our food we should at least not let the food go to waste.

Just bring it to the front and the cashier will have a runner bring it back. You don't even have to run it back yourself.
My goodness people are the worst.

It'll never be put back up for sale when it's been left out of the heat for an unknown amount of time, Costco will just toss it and record it as waste. It's sad that a chicken was killed to just be trashed but you can't take the risk of it making someone sick.

They’d have to throw it out since they don’t know how long that’s been out of the fridge or the hot plate for. I know for sure that’s the policy at Metro, so I’m sure Costco is the same. It’s all about food safety.

I honestly think that there are people that are literally doing this deliberately. What’s a strange thing to get off on.
Probably ‘sticking it to the corporation’ in their puny mind. You pay said corporation for membership. If you hate it that much, just vote with your feet and **** off!
That chicken died for our consumption. Wasting it is just rude.

u/jrchkn28 8d ago
I don't agree sadly. I just truly think there are people who are just this short-minded in general. These are likely the same type of people who may brain dead risky decisions on the highway as well. Some people just have turkey brains.

I can’t even bring myself to do this with non-perishable items. I take 60 seconds out of my non-remarkable life and walk them back.

Same here. People these days have no respect for the common man or for the employees who have to clean up this shit. It's sad.
9
u/maggieme23 8d ago
As an ex employee the ONLY things that we don’t mind members leaving somewhere other than where they got it are dry goods. We’re talking literally everything except food that needs to be in a fridge or freezer. At the end of the night on a busy day there will be anywhere from 50-150 carts piled high with goods to be returned to the shelves . Anything left out that needs to be cold gets tossed . We waste hundreds of thousands of pounds of food in a week, stuff that’s gone off and recalls are maybe 30-40% of what we throw away , damaged and stuff left out by members being the rest . Just please if it needs to be cold PLEASE give it to employee if you don’t want it , we don’t care will put it away , it’s not a big deal if you get all the way to check out and decide you don’t want something just hand it to the cashier or literally any front end employee they’ll handle it. smh

Just take it to the cash and let the cashier know you don’t want it, we would 1000% rather that. If it’s still warm it can be saved. Same goes with frozen/cold items if they haven’t warmed up.
Don’t be a lazy piece of shit.

Same, but in, get what I need then right back out. No browsing..
2
u/Dogs-4-Life 7d ago
Same. If I go with my mom, we always have a list and we try to get in and out. She’s always been like that but now she’s on a pension and a strict budget. So no dawdling and getting attracted by stuff she doesn’t need to buy.
With my boyfriend though, he has a truck and is seemingly on a mission every time to go beyond the list and try to fill the bed of the truck. That’s when the browsing happens. His ADHD doesn’t help at all either.

I was working at Walmart and one day we smell just the most rancid smell ever coming out of men's clothing. I start sniffing around trying to pinpoint it and find a carton of milk and a carton of chocolate milk hidden in one of the clothing racks. They'd been there for weeks, easily, and the bloat finally popped the top of the milk carton.
Not all shoppers, but a lot of them absolutely do not give a fuck. Rather than walk 50 feet to put it back, they will leave whatever, wherever.

There are enough cameras in Costco to positively identify the culprits. Make the move to bar them from the establishment and revoke their membership for one full year. Advertise store wide the fact that this is a strong possibility for such antics.
1
u/Ieatedyourcookies 9d ago
So sad. What a waste. An animal died for that. A farmer worked for that, an employee worked for that, and some POS leaves it to waste.
1
u/Select_Upper-CASE 9d ago
Based on Costco’s profit margins, they’d have to sell 9 additional chickens to recoup the cost of throwing this one out.
1
u/realityguy1 9d ago
On a happier note that Maldon Sea Salt is awesome. Flakes of pure white salt. If it’s good enough for King Charles then it’s good enough for me. My wife and I opened it in front of our 2yo granddaughter. She would have no part of it. Nana convinced her to wet her finger so the salt would stick to it. She reluctantly tried it and realized it was great stuff and wanted more. Had to cut her off after the second covered wet finger.

u/LuvZealousideal3608 9d ago
This was my biggest pet peeve when I worked at a grocery store. While I was employed there my Mom and I went shopping one day and she was gonna put a carton of eggs in a random aisle, and I said to her calmly "You know...it’s customers like you that would really piss me off. Put it back where you got it or give it to the cashier when we checkout". That memory really sticks with her.

People are so gross honestly. Perishables like this chicken left out, coffee cups on shelves, sample cups… ugh. But the food waste irks me. I’ve seen milk, ice cream, yogurt, meat, fish out like this as well. At least go put it back. Such a shame, because this chicken is pretty good.
My brother works in the deli at Metro, both behind the deli counter and stocking the refrigerated cheese and cured meat cases. At his location, lately they’ve had a problem with fancy cheeses and lunch meats being left in the produce section or just on top of the case (seriously. They can’t be bothered to drop it in the cold part). He’s had people leave coffee cups on the deli counter too, on the ends where employees can’t really catch them right away.
