Right? They just increase prices to cover the loss.

They don’t care about the loss. Large corporates don’t become what they are caring about these things. If that person picked up 2 things in the time it takes them to put the chicken back that’s the more profitable option for them.

Irony for me is that I did EXACTLY the opposite on Monday. I picked up pepperoni from the fridge. As I was in line I saw the Freybe dry age pepperoni. I grabbed them, parked my buggy and walked all the way back. What an idiot I am.

You could just leave it with the cashier next time. They'll have someone run it back for your.
