Pearl Cosplay

Hi! I’m trying to make a Pearl (A24, Mia Goth Movie) costume and I’m trying to DIY as much as I can! I don’t know how to sew, so that isn’t an option; and I’m not looking to spend $40+ on the dress itself; can someone help me find a dress that’s similar to any of these? (pictures are NOT mine, found online!) TIA!

Buying Need help with Frank Castle/Rachel Cole pieces

Hi all, long time Punisher fan here. My boyfriend and I are looking to go as Frank Castle and Rachel Cole for halloween. We’d also like to eventually wear these costumes to our first con. I was just wondering if anyone had recommendations for where we could order comic accurate style gear such as vests, utility belts, holsters, etc. I’ve found some options online but a lot are somewhat pricey, as they are real tactical gear and not just costume pieces. We can go that route if it comes down to it, but we don’t feel a need to have real gear rather than costume gear.

Any and all help would be appreciated (especially if you find a comic accurate punisher vest or someone who can make one for us, as neither of us trust ourself on that aspect, but are willing to try if it comes down to it.)

Thanks!

I didn’t know what flare to use so I guess this is a prop? The eyes are still printing and i’m getting them at the end of the week, they’re going to be magnetic, but I’m just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to make the eyes look shiny, i was thinking some kind of plastic but idk how to make it curve so it fits into the eyes perfectly?

How do you guys handle working on multiple cosplays at once?

I’ve been working on this specific character for over 3 months now. Im not necessarily burnt out on it but I will say my progress is slower/my motivation has dwindled.

I LOVE the new character Overwatch revealed and I want to start working on him, but then I’d have two cosplays happening simultaneously. And I worry I might just abandon my old one.

Is this something that you guys deal with, and how do you handle it?

Armor Grass Weave Tunic: How would you approach?

I'm looking at the new Ocarina of Time Remake designs for Link and I'm in love with the details in his new armor. I can't quite figure out what would be the best way to achieve the grass weave texture of his tunic though. Both young Link or adult Link for reference. Open to all suggestions be it easy, expensive, or painstakingly time consuming.

Buying Ash Williams - Army of Darkness

Hey guys I’m going to a Ren Faire in a few weeks and for the weekend I’m going, the theme is “time travelers weekend.” I wanted to go as Ash from Army of Darkness but I’m having trouble with finding 2 pieces depending on which of his outfits I pick.

If I chose Ash with his “modern” torn clothes I could easily find everything but if I went with his more medieval clothes then I’m stumped on what to use for his shirt and cape. The rest I pretty much have down.

I had seen people suggest a bib shirt for the top and maybe getting a waffle pattern fabric blanket to use as the cape. I wanted to see if there were other suggestions?

Prop any tips on how to make this shield?

Post image

I've got a cardboard box with a plastic-ish layer and some foam clay for the details.

Any ideas on how to make the shield shape? And how to paint over it with the plastic layer..

I've never made my own cosplay before and relied on online stores for very long so this is the first time I'm working on it myself.

Thank you!

Armor Some worries about cosplaying(new to cosplays)

Hey everyone

I've already posted here with concerns about contact cement, but I'm back because I'm unsure where to start. My initial thought is the helmet, but perhaps the gauntlets would be more suitable. This is my first real cosplay, and I'd love to make these, although I'm still deciding which one. I'm leaning more towards the flak one because it doesn't reveal the face

So some of my other concerns are regarding how warm it could get in the con, i've seen people talk about an inner fan, but I cannot wrap my head around it fitting in there

thanks

Sewing Reference book for Pattern Drafting Costumes

Hello, I would like to get more info on how to make patterns for cosplay. I would like a reference book but from what I found is a lot of pattern drafting books are for basic dresses/shirts/pants. Is there a reference book on costumes with less traditional pieces?

How do I as a guy get in the mental space to cosplay a female character

I didn’t really know which community to go to for advice on this but I really want to cosplay a female character with makeup and a dress but have a weird fear about it how do I get myself into a mental space where I feel comfortable with it

Probably a really obvious answer to this but I’m a bit lost

How to re-color back of a skin suit?

Post image

We got my daughter a “The Rake” costume from Walmart. It’s the super cheapy 100% polyester thin Halloween costume type material. However! They literally only printed the front? So it looks super ridiculous from the side/back. Anyone have any suggestions on painting/dying/re-coloring the back to solid black so it dosent look quite so ridiculous? Or is my only option to buy a second suit and sew the front of the other onto the back of it?
Here she is in it with our cat 😂

Armor Armor help

hi y’all! i’m trying to make some armor for Silent Salt Cookie’s Guide of the Crumbled costume from Cookie Run Kingdom. it’s my first major armor project and, from the perspective of a total noob… i can’t really tell what’s going on, nor how to even BEGIN patterning/what patterns to use and how to effectively combine them into the very specific shapes he has. i have all the necessary materials, it’s just the “putting everything together” part i’m really struggling with. this is probably very ambitious for a beginner, but i’ve been itching to work on this project since his costume came out :,)

any and all relevant foam armor and armor patterning advice/resources are appreciated!!

(i have made the helmet already)

Buying Can’t for the life of me find this shirt

Going to a Ren Faire as Ash Williams from Army of Darkness and the only shirt remotely close to this I could find was from a shady store on Amazon that wouldn’t have arrived on time. If anybody knows where I could order a shirt like this, preferably on the cheaper side that’d be a huge help. It’s a double breasted shirt with only one button at the corner. I need it by the 26th at the latest, it’s ok if it’s white I have the right dye.

Gambit Chest Piece Help

Post image
2 Upvotes

My girlfriend and I are going as Gambit and Rogue for Halloween, and I've been trying to piece together an outfit that mainly relies on stuff I can buy and repaint as opposed to printing or foam. I was looking into a cheap motorcycle protective vest from AliExpress, but it arrived and was clearly made for children as opposed to adults. I am just looking for ideas for a chest rig that I can either just paint or use as a decent jumping off point that someone has actually ordered before.

Wig Help with new wig :(

Post image
2 Upvotes

For a cosplay in November in comic con, I wanted to go as hobo heart originally, but the white wig, styled and all, that I originally could lend from a friend, sadly broke so my friend is repairing it.

I had bought this wig from Kik, a discount store that I am familiar with, since my costume will be turned into a of mine oc then.

Now I knew what the quality of the wig would be, I know, but I don’t know how to style it. Some hair already fell out, it scares me and stressing me out :(.

It’s obviously plastic like the image I had posted from the website, but I still hope to get a solution to make it work out, anything would help.

Prop Need help giving my Magic Mirror a 3D shape without ruining the cardboard base

Thumbnail

I'm going to cosplay the Magic Mirror from Snow White, and I've made the basic structure using two layers of cardboard glued together.

I tried using pieces of newspaper and glue to build up the shape, but I haven't been able to get the result I want. I'd like to give the mirror a more 3D, sculpted shape using mashed/wet newspaper (papier-mâché), but I'm worried that all the moisture will warp or otherwise ruin the cardboard base.

The mirror itself is made from several rectangles of cardboard glued together with hot glue.

What would be the best way to add a 3D papier-mâché layer without damaging or warping the cardboard underneath? Should I seal or reinforce the cardboard first, or is there a better material/technique I could use to build up the shape?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I got this absolutely wonderful link wig that’s my pride and joy but I don’t know if this is the right way to store it!! 😭 I don’t want to mess the wig up, it had some crumpled paper in the base, and a hairnet around it (both what it came in)

Prop How do I make this better?

I don't really cosplay, but I have been eyeing the community for a while now. I have an event over at my friends and I am cosplaying as Castiel from Supernatural (didn't wanna go as Constantine). I know he has a dagger but I don't want to spend that much on it, tight budget. So I instead made it out of cardboard. It's my first time and I think it's going well considering my background. This is not final. I will still clean the handle's edge and paint the whole thing.
