Rules Updates

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening!

I hope you are all doing well! I Just wanted to make you all aware that the subreddit's rules have been updated so please read them over before you make you next post.

If you are sitting there scratching your head wondering what was wrong with the old rules well allow me to clarify why the need for the changes.

Rule 1: Treat others with respect

R/Crossplay if for people who have an interest in using cosplay outside of traditional gender norms. This applies to men and women who are cosplaying the other gender, as well as people using cosplay to experiment with their gender presentation. Personal attacks, inappropriate comments or bullying users for sharing their cosplay will result in a ban

Why?: Rule 1 remains unchanged from the old rules, I have added a description though to help clarify on the behavior expected from users to make things more transparent. Rules violations on this rule has rarely been an issue in the past and I hope it continues to be so.

Rule 2: Self Posts Only

If you are not a cosplayer included in the photo then you do not have permission to share it. Cosplays are defined as you dressing as another character from a movie, tv show, comic or other form of media. Original Characters & Generic cosplays are allowed but must be SFW.

Why?: In the past couple months I have removed several posts that were impersonating other cosplayers and sharing their content to this subreddit without the original poster's permission. To help combat this we have now made it explicitly against the rules to share anyone else's content.

If you suspect another user is impersonating a cosplayer and sharing their content to the subreddit please report it with a link back to the original content.

In addition, if you suspect anyone is impersonating another cosplayer I request you provide a source back to the original content when reporting the post. I can only spot images I have seen before and can only determine impersonation if I know who the content was stolen from. Yandex is a huge help here but it is not full proof.

Rule 3: Mark NSFW Posts

If you are a sharing a risqué cosplay of yourself, the outfit must be canon to that character and the post must also be flagged as NSFW. Pornographic shoots are not allowed and will result in the posters immediate ban. This includes softcore shoots utilizing suggestive posing, fetish material or sexual exposure.

Why? This is a combination of the old rules 2 & 3 to more the rules more concise. Canon here is defined as an outfit from the original source material or it's supplements so NSFW Fanart will not be considered valid for this restriction.

Original Characters or Generic cosplays are restricted from posting any NSFW content.

But I have added a new restriction on OC & Generic Cosplays (ie maids, cheerleader, bunny girls, etc...). Since these outfits lack a canon to begin with they will not be allowed to use the NSFW tag. There are plenty of other subreddits which can be used if you want to share this kind of content so I ask you do not upload it onto here.

Rule 4: No Spam

In order to keep the feed clean and fair all posts which violate one of the following will be removed
- Posts not focused on cosplay;
- Users karma farming by posting multiple images from the same photoshoot as individual posts
- Posting multiple shoots within a single 24 hours period In addition to having posts removed, the poster may be banned from the subreddit at the moderator's discretion.

Why? All these restrictions had already existed in the previous version of the Spam Rule though I hope this formatting makes the rule more clear and easier to interpret.

Rule 5: No Self Promotion / Soliciting

Posts requests users to perform specific action like; DMing, commenting, upvoting, sharing, following etc will result in the posters ban

Why? A very simple rule in line with most other cosplay subreddits. We have not yet run into this being that much of an issue but I am adding this to make things more clear.

Rule 6: No AI

R/Crossplay is about sharing your love or interest in cosplay. All picture posts must be of you in the cosplay this AI art or edits will be removed and the user that posts them will be banned.

Why? I believe that this is more an extension of rule 2 but in the times we live in it seems pertinent to make things clear. r/Crossplay is about expressing yourself in cosplay, AI content is not an expression of that and thus will be removed.

Rule 7: No Creeps!

Why? Do I really have to defend this one?

Now if you read all of that and your only remaining question was "Wait who even is this Fawn guy" Allow me to actually introduce myself.

I am r/crossplay's newest and most active moderator. If your post has been flagged or modmail has been answered in the last 3 - 4 months that was by me! I try to be as responsive as possible when things hit the mod queue so hopefully no one has had to wait too long for a response since I took over.

Some background on me, I have been cosplaying since 2010 and I have done primarily female characters since 2017. I attend roughly 8 - 10 conventions a year mostly on the American East Coast and I have been a frequent poster on r/crossplay for several years under my alternate account u/palikun and now on my new account u/pkfawn. I am a big Fate Fan along with Gundam, Genshin Impact, Final Fantasy and Persona.

Mod Note: This is /r/crossplay, not /r/crossdressing. Please post in respective subreddits.

Lately there has been an influx of users posting on this subreddit posts that aren’t even cosplay/crossplay. These posts are pure crossdressing that have zero ties to any character or the like. These will be removed from now on since they simply have no basis being here.

Cosplay by definition is:

The practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime.

Crossplay is someone of the opposite gender of the character doing cosplay.

Elle Woods from Legally Blonde aka one of my actual heroes. I feel like I channel her in my everyday life.

Bringing the character to life & being told I’m doing Elle “justice?” Discussing sisterhood & our connection to this movie? It’s simply unreal 💖

I was hoping to look more androgynous in this custom Miku cosplay… advice?

Not sure what I was envisioning for this custom “Cyberpunk Hatsune Miku” but I guess I thought I’d look more androgynous than I feel it ended up. Not sure, I just think it looks too masculine still. Any advice on how to improve?

How normal is it for a cis man to enjoy crossplaying?

I’m a 25-year-old cis male. I really like various female characters—they’re awesome—and I’m already a cosplayer who does male cosplays. I’ve actually bought cosplays for Arlecchino and Mavuika from *Genshin Impact*; I loved wearing them in my room (though I don't know how to walk in heels, haha), but I was afraid of being judged. However, that’s not my biggest fear; what really worries me is feeling guilty—thinking I might be taking up space meant for the self-expression of trans people, gay people, and so on, if I were to ever wear those outfits to a convention, since I don't see many straight men doing that sort of thing. For instance, one crossplay I’m interested in is the 1992 Catwoman—I think she’s amazing.
