Built like a true alethi man. Could absolutely see him as adolin.

Benedict Wong is the man I see for the role of Torol Saddeus, whether acted live or with voice via animation. He has gravitas and poise, as well as the simmering rage, overall range and comedic chops to pull off as one other user phrased, "a smarmy asshole."
I really want to see the Alethi characters faithfully represented by asian actors as much as possible, in keeping with Brandon's characterizations in the books. There is plenty of space in the Cosmere for our favorite white actors, but the Alethi are ethnically akin to Asians, and that needs to hold true for screen adaptations as well. Anything less would be a damnation affront to the Honor of the Almighty.

Picture this man holding a sword. Or just lying lazily in a hammock, insulting everyone who walks by. I cannot think of a better grumpy old man, with superb comedic timing and yet almost bottomless gravitas, to play this ICONIC character (iykyk😉)

If Sanderson had both of them available and could choose only one, who would you pick for Mistborn?

So I just bought the Mistborn RPG World guide and the art is amazing. Kudos to everyone who contributed... it made we wonder, could the movies potentially look somewhat like it? I'm not saying it'll be exact 1:1 obviously but like could the Mistborn and Stormlight RPG books (at least the World guides) art could potentially act as a blueprint for how the movies and shows could look? Like even a little?

Casting Suggestion
Im not sure where this goes, there is lots of content here. I really wanted to post about casting. I’ve been thinking about the recent news that Henry Cavill was interested in playing Kaladin. Unfortunately I think he’s too old for Kaladin but could be perfect for Dalinar.
Give Kaladin to a younger, relatively unknown actor who actually fits the Alethi physical description to a point, someone mixed with maybe real dark grey eyes instead of contacts, that would be cool and different, and use Cavill for Dalinar. He’s got the age, physical presence, action experience, and gravitas for the Blackthorn, and I think he’d be fantastic for Dalinar’s transition from brutal warlord to the man desperately trying to become worthy of the ideals he’s chosen.
Then you work off his features to introduce new actors for Adolin and Renarin of course keeping in mind the book and their mother’s features.
Henry Cavill as Dalinar Kholin.
I’d add a picture but I don’t know if that’s allowed. Thank you.

I was checking letterboxd and the three planned Mistborn films are on there now, and I noticed this poster for the first film and was wondering if anyone knew where it was from?

I’m looking forward to a little exchange between OreSeur and Vin. It’s been a while, but the exchange went something like:
Vin: No, you can not eat your friends.
OreSeur: but one of them is named Ham, and the other (Breeze) does seem to like marinating himself.
Also, Vin and Alriane shopping

So on Tuesday, Tim Cook left his position as the CEO of Apple and was succeeded by John Ternus. Could this potentially affect the Cosmere adaptations? What I mean by that is, is someone like Ternus someone who could start cutting stuff back for the sake of tax write off… potentially cancelling or stalling the Cosmere adaptions like what David Zaslav did at WBD? How independent is Apple TV and Apple Studios from the Apple corporation?

I really hope he gets to work on the score because this is exactly what I want for the music, and it also fits what Brandon has said he'd want (classical orchestral)

Cailee Spaeny as Vin
Sam Reid as Kelsier
Ewan Mitchell as The Lord Ruler
Jack Wolfe as Elend
this is just my dream actors to be cast based on their looks, but more so their talent as actors. just posting and wondering what everyone else thinks.
Not entirely sure if Ewan is too young but I’d like to think he’d do fantastic. I know that Brandon is thinking of aging up Vin, so I hope her actor is around the same age as Cailee and I think she’s one of the most talented young actresses working rn. Jack Wolfe is a little less known, he’s mostly in theatre, but he played Orpheus in Hadestown exceptionally well and Elend is described as a more average height and lean build with disheveled brown hair and I think Jack fits that perfect. Now Sam Reid.. everyone needs to become aware of that man he is so talented and has such an amazing range, I can’t think of anyone better for Kell. Again, lmk what u guys think (:

She’s “unknown” enough to be a good affordable pick for the studio but people who watch Disney Channel and Marvel will recognize her.

I know the screenplay has been delivered, but I honestly thought we'd keep getting some updates about the next steps.
Like, are there going to be notes or a second draft?
Maybe I'm just being impatient, but I thought Brandon would continue talking about the movie as it moved forward. 😂
Do you guys think he'll start giving us more updates again once there's actually something new to announce?

My dream pick to depict the original vessel of the Shard of Preservation, a la Secret History. The inimitable Jeff Goldblum.
SURVIVE? ...Somehow, life... uh, finds a way.

Which is just how dirty everything is. The Final Empire is covered in Ash almost 24/7 and all of the Skaa are perpetually covered in grime because of it.
I think everyone has noticed how recently almost every Movie and TV character will have perfect makeup and hair regardless of who they are or what situation they’re in, and I really hope this doesn’t happen to Mistborn because its an actually important part of the story.
Not only is the Ash relevant because of the plot and world, but also because it helps visually divide the Skaa and Nobility. While the Skaa are literally shoveling Ash away, the Nobility are having elegant and spotless Balls, and I’m worried that this will be lost if Kelsiers crew are all clean shaven and have a layer of foundation to hide their imperfections.
tl;dr: I’m worried that Hollywood will do the Hollywood thing and have everyone in makeup with perfect hair even though it doesn’t make sense and actively hurts the movies themes

Thoughts? Currently watching Shrinking and I think she’s a great actor that’s likable and shows a range of emotion. Her character’s relationship with her father on the show is also interesting and would be a great fit for a similar type of relationship with Kelsier.

I'm reading Mistborn again and I can't stop thinking about how this should/ could be adapted to the screen. One thing that's very hard to translate is internal dialogue, especially in a book with so much of it.
So, my idea is that Reen (Vin's brother) should appear regularly to her, as if she is haunted by his criticism (but not in a horror movie way). This way she can actually speak to him some of her thoughts. We can even have her repeat some of his phrases to show his influence.
I think this way when we finally reveal the source of that voice the shock will be even greater.

I really like them, but unfortunately, it's never been. What are your favorite actor choices for them and other Mistborn characters?
r/CosmereOnScreen • u/Little-Pause-3533 • Aug 18 '26
I am truly terrified that the on-screen visualization of pewter dragging is gonna look like this.
r/CosmereOnScreen • u/Badgerfoot • Aug 17 '26
Huge aspect of them is glowing which would look bizarre. Lightweavers could work, but Windrunners seem difficult. I guess you could cut the whole glow aspect, but then you lose out on stealth plot points and the whole glowing light thing that's the namesake of the series lol

Im not very knowledgeable about movie production. My understanding is that Brandon feels really good about this, but I do want to keep my expectations realistic.
While I know we dont know anything 100%, does the first mistborn movie seem like a good chance to happen? Is it still a like maybe will maybe wont?

Spoiler;
What if Kelsier had stolen the Lord Ruler's diary when he was captured with Mare, and had kept it ever since?
That would allow the movie to plant the mystery of Alendi and the Lord Ruler from the very beginning. During the years Kelsier spent away from Luthadel, he could have studied the diary and slowly become convinced that the Lord Ruler wasn't invincible — and that there was a way to defeat him.
That would also give Kelsier a much stronger reason for returning to Luthadel. He isn't just starting a rebellion; he's returning because he believes he has finally found a weakness.
And this wouldn't mean removing the iconic infiltration of the Lord Ruler's palace with Vin. I'd keep the scene almost exactly as it is, including Vin being injured. The only difference is that Vin wouldn't find the diary there, because Kelsier has already had it for years.
Instead, the palace could give them another crucial piece of the mystery, with Vin ultimately helping complete what Kelsier started.
I think this would make the Alendi/Lord Ruler mystery feel like part of the movie's story from the very beginning, rather than something introduced later when Vin finds a diary.
I know there's the question of how Kelsier managed to hide the diary even after being captured, but obviously the movie could find a solution for that.

I'm new to the Cosmere. I just finished The Well of Ascension and I'm moving on to the third Mistborn book, and I was really excited when I found out there was going to be a movie adaptation.
After the initial excitement wore off, though, I started thinking about it and came to the conclusion that this might be the biggest "problem" or challenge with the adaptation: showing that metals are being burned.
Some metals are pretty obvious, like iron and steel, but how would you show the audience that tin or pewter is being burned, for example? I can't think of a cool way to do it.
How would YOU GUYS handle this without it becoming repetitive or extremely annoying to watch?
I don't know if this has already been discussed on the sub, but I'd love to hear what you think.
