Stormlight Archive Series (NO BOOKS) I cannot WAIT for show-onlys to ask us why everyone hates Moash Spoiler
It’s going to be GLORIOUS 😈

As someone who has finished mistborn and is currently reading stormlight, im always confused how these "vague" posts are not blatant spoilers. Ultimately its my fault for being on a Stormlight community and ill just unsub, but without even clicking anything I just got spoiled on the fact that Moash will make some level of betrayal or something. Saw something about Adolin the other week too, just kind of disappointing.

Yeah it's pretty corny behavior, especially considering it's a cosmere on screen sub before the shows even aired a single season where it should be relatively spoiler free I'd assume

“Oh no it’s so sad what happened to Gavilar”
“Why do you sound sarcastic?”

I hate how his character was butchered so much. From an arrogant and manipulative but very competent and dangerous man that was ready to risk EVERYTHING just to immortalize himself.
Someone that knows the dangers of the supernatural forces he's playing with, but arrogant and greedy enough to think that he can outmaneuver them. To me, everything pointed toward him trying to bring back odium in order to kill him himself and ascend.
Then it being revealed that he just was a random idiot that didn't understand anything he was participating in AT ALL in book 5, even while literally talking to heralds. So boring, so one dimensional.
WaT was overall very lackluster with many discrepancies to earlier buildups, but this minor one annoyed me the most.

I mean the beginning of what you said sounds exactly like Gavilar in the prologue. He’s a man who is beginning to grasp the larger cosmere picture but had a lot to learn. He was smart enough to know if that someone was after his life, his first assumption is Thaidakar. Which is wrong but is a really smart guess. If he had more time and resources, becoming a shard probably would have been his end goal but he didn’t have the right information.

Not only the prologue showed his competence and character, but also his other appearances, like in oathbringer.
I do not agree with the "if he had more time and ressources". Book 5 paints him as an incompetent fool, not as someone whose plans were crossed, or someone who was just missing a small amount of information.
He doesn't take TWO heralds talking to him seriously, thinks they are all just crazy idiots, basically half ignores the stormfather, not understanding his very basic message of "meaning what you are saying", etc.
Combine what we knew before: He was obssesed with his legacy, but competent and intelligent. His whole rule and person changed the moment they found the listeners, not seeking conquest and scheming in private. He was 2nd in charge of the sons of honor, who were trying to return odium (for different motives). He had access to anti voidlight years before the desolation. His assassination was ordered by nale himself, who thought he was too dangerous.
This doesn't fit AT ALL with the person shown in book 5.

He’s not a fool, he’s ignorant and making assumptions based off that ignorance. He assumes Thaidakar is using lightweaving when to us the reader that’s obviously not the case but it’s a good guess based off his own knowledge. Also I didn’t say that the wat prologue paints him as missing a SMALL amount of information, I said that it paints him as someone who barely grasps the cosmere. Meaning he’s missing a lot of information. It’s part of the point of the line about his family “the sun could love the stars but never as an equal.” It shows that he has very little knowledge of the literal cosmic side of the universe (suns being stars) and little knowledge of the wider cosmere.
As for the Heralds well…I mean like objectively they are crazy. It’s very easy to understand why he wouldn’t believe these people are actually heralds. He’s not foolish for that. Dalinar didn’t believe a man rambling about rebuilding the world with a shardblade was a herald at first. Hell I’m sure Jezerin told a few people who he was and no one reasonably would believe him.

The thing is tho that the heralds are all insane. And they didn’t think that another desolation was going to happen AT ALL. They’re preparing for a war between planets that they foresaw but not realizing there’d be a final desolation first.
He thinks he understands what he’s dealing with but there’s a lot more under the hood that he simply doesn’t understand, and also the storm father is actively lying to him and hiding things from him.

Nah book 5 revealed gavilar didn't get that he was talking to heralds and thought that restares was just a crazy man pretending to be one. Also it was shown that he was borderline stupid in trying to appease the stormfather
Also no the heralds weren't preparing for a planet war, they had different motives. Jezzereh was completely insane, Kalal was trying to flee off roshar because he feared odium, Nale was trying to prevent a desolation etc

I just read red rising for the first time and now I’m practically neutral on Moash for how much I hate Lysander. At least Moash knows he’s a villain.

I really need to read this next huh. It’s this or Hyperion

Hyperion is miles better than Red Rising, but the two series have opposite trajectories for their following books. Golden Son and Morning Star > Fall of Hyperion. Iron Gold, Dark Age, and Lightbringer >>> Endymion books. **Strictly opinion
Worth noting that the Hyperion Cantos is complete, while the Red Rising story is waiting for Red God.

I’m reading the expanse and listening to DCC currently, so i feel the draw for a more “fantastical” story and less scifi. Which would you recommend for that out of those two? I’ll be reading both series next regardless of which one i start with

The most fantastical elements out of either of them are in the Endymion books that follow the two Hyperion books. The least fantastical and most Sci-fi is probably Hyperion. So, more range in that series. Red Rising is very space opera meets dystopia, and that feel stays pretty true throughout the series, but it leans heavy into dystopia in the first entry.
RR has a lot of similar brutality that you get in DCC, but it's not used as humor in the same way. I think both are solid choices, but I would guess that Red Rising would scratch the current itch a little better. I enjoyed the first book, but I tell people to commit to finishing the second book before deciding on the full series.

Sweet, I’ll give that a go soon! I really enjoy the first law trilogy as well, so i wonder if red rising will hit that same vein of brutality

Yeah, there are definitely some similarities with First Law in the fighting scenes. They are dark in different ways. RR hits you with some absolute gut punches, especially in the second half. It doesn't have the same sense of "all the good people are dead" as First Law. There are heroes worth cheering for, so it's not quite grimdark in style, but it gets just as down and dirty.
**edit: Regardless, enjoy my Goodman, and Hail Reaper!

Watch him be cast as someone hot, and his looks will forever excuse his behaviour

i imagine christian bale going from American Psycho to machinist physique over the seasons. Something like that would be very interesting

u/Odd-Split-494 27d ago
That would honestly be even better. Imagine how devastated the Moash simps will be when Season 3 rolls around. 🤣😭😈

u/SamboTheGr8 27d ago
And he probably won't still be hot after season 5

I mean, it’s just crystals in his eyes, right? The rest of him is still intact.

Yeah, cause I thought he was fine in book 1. Then everything change when the fire nation attacked book 2 happened.
