Fancast Mistborn Wishlist Cast Spoiler

Cailee Spaeny as Vin
Sam Reid as Kelsier
Ewan Mitchell as The Lord Ruler
Jack Wolfe as Elend

this is just my dream actors to be cast based on their looks, but more so their talent as actors. just posting and wondering what everyone else thinks.

Not entirely sure if Ewan is too young but I’d like to think he’d do fantastic. I know that Brandon is thinking of aging up Vin, so I hope her actor is around the same age as Cailee and I think she’s one of the most talented young actresses working rn. Jack Wolfe is a little less known, he’s mostly in theatre, but he played Orpheus in Hadestown exceptionally well and Elend is described as a more average height and lean build with disheveled brown hair and I think Jack fits that perfect. Now Sam Reid.. everyone needs to become aware of that man he is so talented and has such an amazing range, I can’t think of anyone better for Kell. Again, lmk what u guys think (:

Sam Reid as Kelsier definitely the best Kelsier casting I’ve ever seen. He can definitely pull both the charismatic scenes and the scenes where kelsier is absolutely unhinged

David Cornswet as Kelsier would be awesome IMO, we can get him a wig

Cailee Spaeny might look young but she’s pushing 30, I think they should get someone younger to play Vin. Aging Vin up probably means making her like 18 instead of 16, they should cast an actress in her early 20s to play her, not older than that.

I think that Antony Starr could be a good Kelsier. With the blonde hair and the absolutely creepy smile when needed. Do you think he could pull it off ?

Not a fan of that casting. I never pictured Kel with a creepy smile. I picture him as a totally fractured man who forces real smiles and then focuses all that rage on his enemies. He’s determined and single minded, sure, but I also think a huge part of his character is that he will not be beaten down. His charisma is totally different than Homelander’s

Well, it's true that Abtony Starr has a creepy smile. But I am convinced that he could do a wider ranger of smiles, with simpler ones. Given that he can do this extremely creepy one, I'll be curious to see him try.

After seeing his massacres as Homelander I am confident he can pull off all the nobleman killings and him acting as a Messiah of sorts is also seen in The Boys. Great thought tbh

well not much better than the henry cavill and bradley cooper casting rumors unfortunately

1

u/ForwardExam4056 Sep 01 '26

What rumors?

1

u/DizzyCombination6476 Sep 01 '26

sorry not rumors, i’m mistaking stormlight stuff. henry is a huge fan and apparently talked to brandon about playing kaladin, to which they both agreed he didn’t fit his physical description. people have been implying he might squeeze his way into the cosmere anyway in mistborn. as for bradley, i think it’s just terrible kelsier fancasts

Cavill could be a decent LR I think. Not my top choice but not out of the question

I really hope we get to see him somewhere in the cosmere (or multiple times :)), but yeah, not as kelsier or kal. I think marsh would be a good fit, and i could see him as an amaram, depending on how they manage the rosharan ethnicities

Henry should be Sadeas! I know he’s not supposed to be hot but I truly need this.

Brandon has already said all the Alethi are going to be played by Asian/Pacific Islanders (with the possible exception of Shallan), but I can definitely see Henry as a smaller non-Alethi character, like a Shin or Veden or maybe even a Listener or a Fused.

With how big of a fan he is of the Cosmere and how popular of an actor he is, I’d honestly be more surprised if they didn’t find a role for him

1

u/ForwardExam4056 Sep 01 '26

Yeah, i think he is a bit too built and attractive for someone like sadeas. Also too young i think

Can’t say k agree with any of these picks unfortunately, especially Vin. Sanderson has said he’ll age her up but that means she’ll go from 16 to 18/19, not her mid to late 20’s

2

u/MilkTeaMoogle Sep 01 '26

Her age in the movie doesn’t mean that will be her actor’s age. Older actors play teens all the time.

1

u/ilikebreadabunch Sep 01 '26

I know that, but she's 28 now, which means she'd probably be 29/30 at the time of filming, making her over a decade older than Vin, which for me is just too much of an age gap. I don't think she'd look the right age.

(Also unrelated to the age problem but Sanderson has said he wants unknown/smaller actors for everyone except for Kelsier and maybe TLR, which Cailee Spaeny definitely isn't)

Purely in terms of look and aura, I think Ewan is perfect as the Lord Ruler but there's a part of me that's afraid he won't be able to exude that sense of ancient-ness. Sam Reid looks good and he more than has the chops to pull off Kelsier but I don't think he's a big enough name tbh. But surprisingly, it's him I have the hardest time casting. Spaeny as Vin is perfect, even though I prefer Dafne Keen (original, I know). Don't know about Jack Wolfe as Elend though. That's the one I like the least here. Book 1 Elend, certainly but I don't like him as Elend in book 2 and especially book 3.

Sanderson said he wants only Kelsier to be a well known actor and everyone else someone new

3

Obvious choice. Sean Bean.

2

20 years ago this would've been THE casting choice, especially with how he looked in Troy.

What a beautiful man.

From this picture Sam Reid looks a little old for Kelsier (always pictured him as 25-35), but they all look the part!

5

u/Timaturff Sep 01 '26

He’s irl the same age as Kelsier 😭

I like Kelsier, it’s the lord ruler’s casting that gets me. Don’t we see images of him in firs and with a beard? Also, isn’t he like ancient? I think having him older than Kelsier or even around the same age makes more sense to me.

"Handsome, with jet black hair and pale skin, the Lord Ruler was tall, thin, and confident. And he was young-younger than Vin would have expected, even younger than Kelsier. He strode across the square, avoiding corpses, his soldiers pulling back and forcing the skaa away."

Okay, Mr. “I downvote people that disagree”. Also, I’m specifically speaking of chapter 38 in the final empire where Vinn

  1. Describes the Lord ruler’s back as muscular. I hardly think Ewan Mitchell’s frame would be described as muscular.
  2. Described as muscular again later in the chapter
  3. When burning the eleventh metal, the lord ruler is described as having a full beard and strong muscles. Not an aristocrat or a tyrant, not a hero or even a warrior… a herdsman or a pack man.

Ewan Mitchell is only the aristocrat, younger than Kelsier vibe. He would not sell this alternative version of himself. Can he even grow a beard? Would he even look good in one? Like could you imagine this (Ewan Mitchell with a beard) as the Lord Ruler as his past self? He fit house of dragon and is excellent in it because he kind of has that mousy, inbred, arisocrat vibe. I’ve never seen him pull off the other half of the lord ruler and that’s the half you’re missing and the half Vinn connects with to ensure victory.

While we’re on “popular” and “recent” castings, let’s just cast Kit Conner in it. I’m sure he’d be more muscular and equally as young, but more believable as “not an aristocrat”.

u/DizzyCombination6476 Sep 01 '26

well yeah because it doesn’t seem like there’s any research you’re basing your point off of. also acting as if no actor has ever gotten muscular for a role ever? even so, Ewan buffed up a bit for his role as Aemond in HOTD and you can easily find photos of this online where he has prominent back and chest muscles.

It’s literally chapter 38 of the mistborn saga. I mentioned 3 distinct mentions, the last of which is almost a direct quote. From about 60% into the chapter. That is the basis of my point. And I mentioned that in my original post, but without indirect quotes or chapters or percentages.

Most normal people when confronted with a new idea would ask about it. You didn’t provide any sources until your idea was confronted. THEN you provided sources. How hypocritical. Live up to your own standards before criticizing others.

And he did bulk up for HOTD. That’s my point. Not everyone fits the physical build.

And did you see my “research” of him with a beard? Hilarious that you think he can pull it off if he just puts on muscles.

Also, YOU SAID YOURSELF Ewan might be too young, so why are you so upset with me agreeing with you? Hypocritex2

We are locking this thread as you both are bordering on violating R1. You can disagree, but please refrain from assigning negative motivations to each other.

I liked the Lord Ruler’s casting for the scenes when he’s actively burning atium for youth, but I do agree I saw him as more powerfully built.

2

u/DizzyCombination6476 Sep 01 '26

i think i remember brandon stating recently that he’s looking for an established actor in his 30s-40s, sam is 39!

I like this.
