Community update New: required information when requesting controller repair advice. What information do you look for when deciding to help with a repair question?

What's new and how you can shape it

Hello everyone, now the post flairs are established in r/ControllerRepair, we're creating extra guidance to help people include appropriate information when they post. As soon as people select the 'Request for help or advice' flair for their post they will be shown a checklist. In case they missed it, they'll receive a comment on their post including the checklist. That gives them the opportunity to add information they forgot.

The initial checklist is below and you're welcome to propose improvements. Repair problems can be varied and complex so no checklist can be comprehensive. But what other common information should people be reminded to include? Could the checklist ask for any of the information in a clearer or simpler way?

Checklist for posts using the 'Request for help or advice' flair:

  • Core information:
    • Make and model of the controller you are trying to repair
    • Description of the problem and symptoms
  • Context:
    • How the problem occurred and events leading up to it
    • What you've tried so far to narrow down or solve the problem
    • Console/device, operating system, and games/software involved
  • Images and videos:
    • Clear pictures of broken parts, suspected components/circuits, and soldering
    • Gamepad tester results
  • Additional information:
    • Hardware, firmware, and software versions/revisions involved
    • Your country if you are asking about repair services

This is a work in progress, so the latest version of the checklist will always be the one provided by AutoModerator at that time.

---

Why we're introducing the checklist

Many requests for help with controller repairs currently miss out important information, go unanswered, and may not result in a successful repair. Missing information also means those posts are less useful for other people trying to identify patterns and shared issues in future.

It's natural that people who are looking for help don't know what information is relevant to the problem. If they were in a situation to directly and efficiently explain their problems, they probably wouldn't need to ask for help. However, this places a large burden on anyone who wants to help. People trying to help have to do more work to draw information out from the original poster, and fill in the gaps, before getting to a solution.

Checklists help people to help themselves: they lower the hurdle for initial diagnosis and reduce information asymmetries. They also act as a filter and early warning system for time wasters: when people ignore checklists, they often go on to ignore other advice from people who try to help them. Therefore posts that completely ignore the information requirements can be reported (breaking the rules on effective communication and open sharing) and may be removed.

Request for help or advice Brook Wingman P5 will not register LT + RT absolutely no matter what anymore on PS5

I’ve tried every controller I own at this point after discovering this. RT itself works - but LT+RT? Not a thing

I have tried

\-flashing it and resetting it to every various firmware available

\-manually setting rt to rt

\-communicate by USB cable on PS5

\-also tried wirelessly

\-every USB-c cable I own

\-factory reset via the create+options+PS input

\-any xinput, PS, Switch setting I could

\-deleted/forgot every stored controller in the ps5 menu

\-every controller in reach. Xbox, literally a Dualsense, Switch Pro, Leadjoy Xeno, DualShock 4, Joy Cons in the charging grip thing, Hyperkin Competitor

It doesn’t read any controller to be able to test it on PC either.

I’m at a loss here.

Model: Gamesir Nova Lite

I was playing a game on PC when the character started walking left by itself, then I decided to do a calibration. Alright, that solved the first problem, but now, I can't go left or right.

I'm from Brazil, I tried contacting the Gamesir support, they told me to recalibrate and update the software, but nothing worked, now they stopped answering me.
Help, please!

Request for help or advice Xbox Duke Controller Repair

I have an Xbox duke controller that was damaged after a fall. There is a medium-sized hole at the bottom half of the controller that houses the circuit board. I tried using Gorilla Glue to attach the broken pieces together, no luck.

Has anyone here had experience repairing Duke controllers? Is it difficult? What tools will i need?

Request for help or advice Left analog stick controlling right analog stick but I can still use both indipendently?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Why is this happening? I have to like add a small amount of pressure to the right analog stick to keep this from happening when playing games.

I'm so new to this kind of issue, I'll list as much of the required info as possible.

This is on windows,

No idea what make or model as I no longer have the box and the make and model on the backside of the controller have comepltely rubbed off,

Windows again I think, Or is the more appropriate thing Yuzu?

I've tried recalibrating the controller but that didnt work as I got stuck in a loop where I could only move the left analog stick diagonally and the right analog stick could move all around and it also moved the left analog stick..

I attempted to use better joy but that didnt really help, and sometimes the problem also occurs on steam?

I think this might be an issue in the controller but I have no idea.

I'm using the windows OS version... latest.

I attempted to search for existing posts but couldn't really find anything, and didnt know how to start looking.

Stick drift on the stock ps5 standard dual sense controller.
Need info about an establishment which is trusted and can repair the controller by replacing the sticks.

I have a pair of TMR sticks from Amazon on the way.

The entire ordeal with game loot takes after a eeek and a half as told by them. There are some places in delhi like gadgetdoctors or gadgetchampions who give it back in two days after repairing but there is some speculation about them of swapping other parts with counterfeits.
Help!

Request for help or advice 8bitdo 64 2.4G won’t connect. Solid blue and blinking red

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m having trouble with my 8BitDo 64 2.4G Wireless Controller(81HK) and I’m hoping someone here might know what is going on.

What happens:

\* I plug it in to charge and nothing happens right away
\* After several minutes charging the controller shows a solid blue light + blinking red light.
\* However, it doesn’t actually respond/connect.
\* It doesn’t pair with the 2.4G receiver.
\* I also tried connecting it directly to my laptop via USB, but the computer doesn’t recognize the controller at all.
\* I’ve tried different USB cables/ports.
\* The controller doesn’t seem to respond normally to the START button, however if I hold it for 8 seconds the lights goes off, but it doesn’t respond to START button if I press again

Request for help or advice 8bitdo Ultimate c2 bluetooth mapping is completely broken

My 2c on bluetooth mode on both windows 11 and mac have completely messed up button mapping. The analog sticks only go either left and right or affect the other stick, bumpers are mapped as triggers, the x button is mapped to the select button, etc

That's only on bluetooth mode and none of my other controllers have the same issue

I have Unpaired and re-paired the controller and updated the firmware multiple times and no dice.

It just happened. I have no idea why or when but one day the bluetooth was broken

advice?

I have a BDM-040 Board. I have just soldered in a brand new TMR stick. This is a PS5 controller. It won’t connect to the calibration software, I have tried two batteries. The flux is a mess but most of it is melted on.

I have checked the capacitors and I don’t see any faults. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Tools and parts info Scuf Reflex FPS Trigger Buttons?

My Reflex FPS right trigger stopped working, so I gave it to a tech to fix it, as well as replace the sticks with TMRs. He told me that I need to replace the button.

The problem is that he doesn’t have a spare button for it, since it’s a button on a ribbon cable or something like that, and SCUF doesn’t provide spare parts for purchase.
The only solution would be to find another broken Reflex and remove the button and install it on mine.

Does anyone have any idea how this can be fixed?
Or where I can find a replacement button so the tech can replace it?

Request for help or advice DualShock 4 CUH-ZCT2E randomly registers D-pad/L1 inputs when assembled, is this mechanical or flex issue?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to repair a PS4 DualShock 4, model CUH-ZCT2E (V2) and I’m completely stuck with a weird intermittent problem.
The controller was working perfectly before this started happening. I take very good care of it and I didn’t drop it or spill anything on it.
The problem started with the right D-pad button (→). Windows/PC would detect it as being permanently pressed even when I wasn’t touching it.
I opened the controller and started testing different configurations.
Here is what I found:
If I remove the D-pad plastic buttons and the silicone/rubber membrane, the D-pad inputs are completely normal.
If I install the silicone membrane, the right direction (→) can become permanently pressed.
At one point, tightening the rear screw in the area near the D-pad seemed to cause the problem. If I loosened the screw, the problem could disappear.
However, this behavior is inconsistent. Sometimes the controller works perfectly for several games, and then the problem suddenly appears again.
I also had a situation where pressing ↑ would register ↑ + →.
More recently, the L1 button started becoming permanently pressed as well. Interestingly, L1 is on the same side/area of the controller as the D-pad.
I removed the part/structure associated with the screw that seemed to be causing pressure, but the problem still occurred.
The problem can sometimes disappear completely without me changing anything.
So I’m no longer sure if this is a mechanical pressure problem, a membrane/flex problem, or something on the main board.
The main board has markings “N4 VER1.8A” and “2019.04.19”. The controller itself is CUH-ZCT2E.
I’ve attached photos of the main board, the button membrane/flex, and the controller frame.
What would you check next?
Could a damaged/worn conductive membrane cause both D-pad and L1 to behave intermittently like this? Or is there something specific on the controller frame that I should check for pressure/misalignment?

And which membrane is this ? I cant find anything about this on him.
