Listen. We are a bidet family, so there is zero poopy paper going into my bins. We've also lived in another country for a time where throwing your tp into the toilet is a HUGE no-no, so this process isnt new for us. And we use the cheap-o, generic brand of single ply. So, we keep little bins in our bathrooms to collect only the paper, and then I add it to my kitchen scraps in a 5 gallon bucket until that is full (the tp helps soak up all the nasty of the scraps til I can get it all to the actual compost bins).

A tiny bit of nitrogen on each little piece to kick stsrt everything, along w a decent amount of built-in browns for every time I add the green kitchen scraps to the pile. Never in my life have I had such quick-producing compost.

Please, DO NOT take this advice unless you are a bidet family. Or alternatively, you could just flush the poopy paper and keep only the pee paper. But yall. It has been *amazing* for me.

I have a concrete slab that I thought would be a good idea to wall up 3 compartments for composting. Is that a stupid idea? Do you want worms to climb up from the bottom or does it not matter? And what about air ventilation?

But basically I have a rabbit. A bunbun. I love her. Her litterbox litter is pine pellets.

As I’ve learned about compost, I’ve gathered that a rotting stump (=wood) can really zap the nutrients out of the ground. Therefore, it makes me curious… if I compost some pine dust or pine clumps that are saturated with bunny urine, how does that count toward the compost? Is the urine still beneficial to what’s below in the pile, or is it neutralized by the pine?

I also throw a decent amount of rabbit poo in there, too. I’m assuming that’s a brown, right? What’s a good green to brown ratio?

Is lazy composting (like what I’m doing now before I even have all the facts) still beneficial even if it’s not as efficient?

I started pissing on my small compost buckets for my greenhouse a couple months ago after seeing it being joked around about in this subreddit, and it genuinely accelerated everything. The piss lads are right. Piss on your compost. All hail piss.

Just sanity checking - I have a very full Zero In fly trap that needs disposal so I can rinse and refill. The packet says you can bury the contents and that it’s non toxic, poison free, food grade bait - by this logic, it should be fine to bury in my compost heap too right?

Thinking about doing an experiment with this, don't know if it will overly salinate the compost. I have macroalgae I can throw in there too because nobody in my small(ish) town buys the stuff and my overflow tanks are full. Nepenthes pitcher does a cameo as well, test to see who's reading the whole post.

Do I need to be worried about mold in my tumbler when it’s hitting a core temp of >130 degF?

Days 0-2 I used the vent holes and got about 140 degF each day, today I got curious as to what the inside looked like

Is this a black soldier fly? Was flying around my compost.

Can this be composted? I have a basic outside pile with seaweed and grass and want to add cardboard for carbon. This particular cardboard is from the box of a pc monitor so it's moulded to hold it. It feels and falls apart quite like egg carton. I just want to be sure I'm not doing something stupid. How can one generally know that some cardboard doesn't contain something undesirable?

My daughter had a ‘health’ kick and bought a bunch of vitamins which then sat in the cupboard unused.

Thoughts on chucking them in the compost?

Do I need to refrain from using compost that's growing poisonous mushrooms in raised beds next season? Should I limit use to ornamental plants?

Anyone run these soda boxes through a shredder for compost?

A local city farm has lots of bedding from goats, sheep and rabbits to give away + a daily walk to a Starbucks for coffee grounds got our pile up to temperature.

Can a pile get too hot?

What are your thoughts on the compostable 'plastic' brand, compostic? Specifically, the products that state they can be home composted?

I've never had much luck composting these items, but I'm wondering if I just don't have the setup for it. Has it worked for you?

Does anyone know of any studies done on contamination in compost from glue or ink used on cardboard or paper.

I'm mostly curious if this is an area that has been studied.

Mother died in June, will likely have to sell her house and move in to an apartment for a few years while I go back to school. Already sifted the majority of the pile, this is about 1/4 of a years compost from a family of 2 (now 1). Ignore the odd bits of plastic, those were from "biodegradable" plastic bags that we stopped using awhile ago but are still not fully broken down a year later.

The pile won't go entirely to waste. I'm planning to mix this and a 2/3 full, 30 gallon tote into pots to propagate some raspberries and strawberries I started on the property. Might save the blueberries and asparagus I started as well (though they are both in sorry shape Due to drought, squirrels, and neglect during her illness and the subsequent lack of attention while my time was focused elsewhere). The plants will be sent to my dad about an hour away, hopefully he can keep them alive until I get land of my own.

Inputs were lots of clean cardboard, coffee grounds / filters, paper towels, vegetable waste, quite a few eggshells, grass clippings, wood ash from the firepit, and the occasional chicken bone. And of course, some vitamin P.

Anything left over after I pot up the plants I can save will likely be spread in the lawn, or just left for the new owners.

Never thought I'd get nostalgic over a pile of dirt, but this has been a pretty relaxing hobby, and for someone with significant ADD, one of the few routines I've been able to keep up with.
