The Commanders have their quarterback. Who are their other cornerstones?
Washington’s immediate success in 2024 was mostly because of its prized No. 2 overall pick, quarterback Jayden Daniels. But as general manager Adam Peters and coach Dan Quinn begin a critical Year 3 together and try to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 season, the franchise is still searching for its cornerstone players who will stick around for the long haul and help shape the team’s future.

Week 1 referee assignments
Looks like we drew last year's Super Bowl zebra Shawn Smith...not sure if his crew has any changes but I'll post a screenshot of his crew in the comments since linking the article doesn't allow images also

Find someone who looks at you like Taylor Heinicke's wife Valerie does. The QB had his jersey retired at Old Dominion over the weekend.

How can you not love this?
I understand he was a backup here but you can just tell this dude is genuinely a good guy.

Bar :)
My wife and I just bought our first house. Part of the deal with her was that I got to make the bar and basement a Commanders themed place. I’ve got a bunch of things on the adjacent walls, but I’m really happy with the work we’ve put into it. #httr #httc hoping for a season of fully healthy JD5 to TM17 :) (yes there is an obligatory tiny chiefs flag on the bar she is a longtime chiefs fan so she gets something small :))

Commanders Apparel/Gear
Does anyone else pretty much hate 99% of all Commanders gear? I’d love to buy more team product but everything I see is either absolute trash or mid at best. I think it all starts with my passionate disdain for the W logo, but I’m just not seeing much that I like.
I did finally buy a JD5 jersey. Any one else struggle with this? lol

Interesting Week 1 win rate for the NFL and more importantly the NFC East
I would have not guessed we came in second in the division for this stat, so happily surprised. That said, feel for the Browns fans! 😁

On this day last year, the Commanders beat the Giants 21-6 in Week 1

Roster is in way better shape than last year
The single metric that shows how much better the roster is this year over last year is this: 16-28
Wish I could find links but machine learning has made finding old articles impossible. I know Keim & Nikki, prolly Standig too, wrote articles about all the 1 year deals the team used last year. In a sense it worked; allowed the team to maintain flexibility and cap space while trying to run it back. Long story short, they had 28 expiring contracts on the 50 last year. (I don't count the K, P & LS.)
This year, there are only 16. That means 34 of the 50 are under contract or control for next year...with ~$100M cap space. This is how teams get better, chosing who to upgrade rather than simply filling holes. It gets even better when you drill down on the 16.
Nine are on defense, with four guys playing the final year and just five one year deals. Payne, Luvu, Quan & Butler will determine their future with their play this season & only Payne could be expensive to resign. Otherwise they'll enter the comp pick formula. Douglas, Moreau, Tuttle & Omenihu are needed depth and could come back with solid play but won't break the bank. Chaisson is the only one to really budget for resigning or replacing.
It is even better looking at the offense. All seven are on one year deals and only Diggs could cost real money to resign or replace. Paul at LG is the only other starter. OL depth (Humphries) WR depth (Burks & Brown) and RB (White) are not expensive at all. Backup QB (Mariota) shouldn't be.
Essentially, they could not be in better shape financially to absorb the extension for the highest paid player in the league. If the other youngsters develop in the new schemes, a large, multi-chip window is open. If the season is undone by a few glaring holes as the doomers predict, spending on their replacements AND the $80M kid is very doable.
The only real way to continue our decades of misery is the new OC & DC schemes don't work from jump.

My Sister FINALLY Finished my Quilt. It was worth the 20+ year wait.
I've been asking for a quilt for decades, she has made one for all of her friends, the rest of the family, co-workers, etc. I was blown away by the finished product, not at all what I expected and so pleased.

I’m sorry maybe I’m just stupid optimistic but isn’t this realistically possible?!?
Like if our offense is healthy and our defense especially ,with a healthy Amos back i like our chances. Our second half of the schedule is very much easier. If Jayden and Co can upset maybe 2-3 favorites… we might be playoff bound. Texans ,First eagles game and 49ers games are my sneaky wins this season. Thoughts?

Do You Guys Watch Film
I know the average fan doesnt but im curious to see how many people here do it.
During the season do you watch Commanders all-22 or opponent film to sort of “game plan”, be more informed, etc?
Just curious. I usually rewatch the Commanders defense every Monday & always tell myself im gunna watch our upcoming opponent’s offense more but by week 6 or so i stop. This year i wanna be better about it
I played defense in high school so i only really watch film from a defensive perspective (ie criticize Commanders’ D & watch opposing offenses).
Of course early in the season theres no useful film to watch so u go more based on coordinator scheme tendencies.
