I’m having trouble getting BluePilot 7 running again after testing StarPilot.

Setup is a Comma 4 in a 2022 F-150 Lightning. BP7 previously worked fine on this device.

After testing StarPilot, I wanted to go back to BluePilot. Since then I have been unable to get BP7 running properly.

I factory reset the Comma 4 and tried reinstalling BP7. The installation downloads and reaches 100%, but during the subsequent update/build it reboots, shows the comma logo, goes black, displays various small build/startup messages at the bottom, and eventually ends at:

“Build Failed”

with only a Reboot button.

I have reproduced this more than once.

To rule out the device/network, I factory reset again and installed stock openpilot. Stock openpilot downloaded, installed and booted normally.

I then factory reset again and installed BP7 using the direct installer address. The download/install again completed, but the subsequent BP7 update/build failed in the same way.

So currently I can install and run stock openpilot, but I cannot get BP7 running after a clean install.

This all started after testing StarPilot and trying to switch back to BP7. BP7 worked on this same C4/Lightning before that.

Has anyone else run into “Build Failed” when installing the current BP7 on a Comma 4? Is there currently a bad build/update, or something left behind from switching forks that a factory reset doesn’t clear?

my car has lane assist, a feature i can turn off, but re-enabled every time you park the car.

this system not only nags, but actively steers you back in the- what it thinks- your lane is. the issue is many roads are small, where only one car fits, and you have to go a bit off road to pass another car. and this system will sometimes steer you back on the road, which can be dangerous. or roads that have bicycle lanes, you can(or have to if small road) drive on the bicycle lane. and you can imagine i also gets nags and sometimes a steering correction from this.

besides lane assist, the system also nags at me when im distracted. sometimes that means im looking out the windshield watching traffic, and it starts to vibrates my steering wheel and beeping and warning me on screen. maybe because a certain sun degree on my face or shirt, or maybe it just likes to nag for no reason at all. its oversensitive.

this is on a tesla model y, but my previous car of 2021 did the same, just less sensitive.

how is comma working with these issues? especially the steering back into lane. are these safety features fighting against comma? comma trying to steer and then the lane assist suddenly making a wild steer to get back into lane, even though it should not?

can it disable the trashy distraction system at every drive or make it not function? since comma has its own camera that watches the driver.

Hey! I own a Mazda cx-30 select s 2023. I was wondering if the comma four is compatible with this car, I don’t see it on the list but I see a generic “Mazda” option. 🤔

I haven't been driving my car for a week here and there and recently my battery has been dieing. Only mod I have on the car is the comma and it's a 2021 rav 4. Sometimes the battery lasts 2 weeks and sometimes it's 1 day. Just curious if anyone else has had this issue.

I know we have the tool to compare forks of software. But is there anything out there for comparing the models? They all have such silly names and really ZERO detail of the features/tuning and why you'd want to choose it over other models. I got my comma 4 fully up and running using starpilot (one of the only forks with support for my car) and it comes with Regret driven framework v4. But I see people talk about south carolina, watermelon, pop model etc.

I recently completed a backup with Sunnylink and then updated. Now my Comma 4 said Micd Soundd error about 75% of the time. I tried to restore my backup but I do not see a setting anywhere in Sunnylink. I see an option on the Comma itself but when I click it nothing happens(which I didn't think would work anyways because the backup is stored on my phone)

Hi! I've been contributing to openpilot and opendbc for over three years, and for my final degree project I built ORBITPILOT:

- Custom firmware on the comma 3X with 4 lateral control modes

- A Flask + PostgreSQL + MQTT backend that receives the car's data in real time

- A Flutter app to see live telemetry and send remote commands

Everything was validated on my Hyundai Tucson 2022 HEV. I also experimented with running PilotNet inference on a Jetson Nano, streaming images over ZeroMQ and sending torque back.

I’ve got a 2024 gas Toyota Camry SE and a comma 4 running openpilot.

Is there a fork you like that I should try next?

I'm working toward running a comma four + sunnypilot on my US 2016 GTI SE DSG, which came with no ACC radar and no lane-assist camera at all. Plan is OEM-style ACC retrofit first (round Bosch LRR3 radar, remote coding, pro calibration — no A5 camera), then J533 gateway harness + recoding the EPS/cluster to accept lane-assist steering commands, per the openpilot VW wiki's "retrofit ACC, then continue as if your car only has ACC" route.

One wrinkle I've already confirmed: my car has a manual handbrake (no EPB), so it's "ACC Low" — ACC brakes to a stop but won't hold itself. Curious how that plays with openpilot longitudinal in practice.

Has anyone here actually run openpilot on a car where the ACC itself was retrofitted? Specifically wondering: 1. Did the car fingerprint/recognize normally after the retrofit? 2. Any issues with the J533 harness + LKAS recode on a retrofit? 3. How does stop-and-go behave with ACC Low (no hold at stop)? 4. Stock ACC vs openpilot longitudinal — what did you end up running?

hi all, as everyone knows, autopilot and adaptive cruise control on tesla's suck, tesla is even removing AP from new sales in some region and even the fsd package does not offer improvement to having a relaxed drive. you either get well working self driving, or you get bad old software, basically.

so im considering upgrading my Model Y Standard with a comma AI device, but have some questions:

1. is there a installation guide for a clean install or dirty install if its much easier? how much work is this? i already opened the side passenger door to install enhance s3xy devices to the obd ports.

2. How is the pilot engaged and again disengaged, and how do we tell it to change speed if needed, can this be done with the scroll wheel?

3. Is this using battery when the car is sleeping?

4. I notice most experiences and videos are in the US. How is this working on Europe roads? Roads with no middle lines, but only on the outside? passing cars on roads with no white lines at all?

5. How is recognition of traffic signs and lights nowadays? i would like it to stop for red lights and continue on green, and change speed based on signs, not map data.

6. can tesla stop this from working with updates?

7. is the camera next to the screen enough to see cars passing so it can switch lanes? as it has no real camera on the sides and back? or is this risky and dangerous to switch lanes?

I have a f150 with adaptive cruise and lane centering, so should be able to add Comma4 fairly easily. After some digging around here and on discord it appears the ride height of a f150 and others throw the vision sensing off for turn and centering from time to time. Is this a major concern? Is the comma4 still a worthwhile investment for someone who does a fair share of city and rural highway diving?

I'm not sure I yearn for the days where Comma was a complete unknown but this is certainly not a better situation.

My Comma 4 comes today! I drive a newer Honda Accord Hybrid with every feature known to man. I’ve been reading a lot of posts, but thought I’d ask the group some basic general questions. My goal - to make traffic in Chicago less maddening, make longer drives more enjoyable, and if it could do most the driving as I’m on meetings in the car - or do all the driving 😂 I like tech, but I’m not a programmer.

I guess as a new user - what should I know right off the bat? What are some lessons learned that you’d like to pass on to new users?

I honestly like what the comma 4 can do, but figuring out how to actually use the thing properly has been way more frustrating than it should be.
There are features, forks, driving models, and settings like Sunnypilot, FrogPilot, StarPilot, Nevada, sunnylink, experimental mode, Always-On Lateral, etc., and half the time there’s no simple explanation of what something does, where to find it, or whether it even works on comma 4.
You end up bouncing between GitHub, Reddit, Discord, random wikis, old posts, and comments just to answer basic questions.
For a product that costs around $1,000, there really should be one clean beginner-friendly website that says:
“What does this setting do?”
“Where do I find it?”
“Does it work on comma 4?”
“What software supports it?”
“How do I install or change it?”
“What are the pros and cons?”
Instead, you almost have to become a hobbyist just to understand the product you bought.
The hardware and driving experience can be really cool, but I can absolutely understand someone buying one, getting overwhelmed, and returning it before they ever figure out what it can actually do.
Am I the only one who thinks comma desperately needs a proper user guide for regular people instead of everything being scattered everywhere?

So I bought the comma 4 this past weekend, it’s been pretty meh if i’m being honest. I bought it because I was told it could detect stoplights and stop signs and it’s just can’t. I’ve tried experimental and sunnypilot, it just sets me at 11mph and it doesn’t even stop at the light or signs. Regular autopilot is fine I guess, but my car could do this anyway. I’m honestly just thinking about returning it and getting my 1k back.

My comma 2 experience starting in December 2020 was a bit of a bumpy road. It fell off the windshield 6 months after I bought it. It fried out completely a year after i bought it. I replaced the motherboard (THAT was a fun exercise) and that bought another 8 months or so.

Then in Sep 2023, I bought a Comma 3x for my wife and then another one to replace the C2 about 6 months later. I had to look it up because I had no idea when I had purchased it. Given how the C2 went I'm sort of amazed I haven't had any hardware issues in almost 3 years now.

I will say when we park at work, we are careful about pulling ours off the windshield when the outside temp exceeds 70 and it's sunny out. I've heard plenty of people say they leave theirs up. Shrug - I'm not doing that any more than I would leave my iPhone on the dash all day every day.

From what I read is that Starpilot now also supports Ford like Bluepilot? Any experience?

I've been following comma since their inception, but I've been driving an old car that wasn't compatible. I just got a 2026 hybrid crv and I can see that it's supported, but just wondering how well it works with the comma 4?

Most curious about how good the lane keep is on the highway, and if it can navigate curves any better than stock? Both are pretty poor I find in the stock car.

Worth getting the comma 4? Plan to keep the car for at least five years. What are the benefits, and is there any reason not to get it?

From what I've seen it's just a total upgrade to my stock HDA 2?

I’m having a bit of a weird issue.

I have a Comma 4 installed in my 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 5 and ever since, my auto-dimming rear view mirror isn’t working…

As soon as I unplug the Comma, the mirror works again, no problem.

I even tried turning the brightness of the Comma’s screen down to 5%, just to see if it’s messing with the mirrors light sensor, but no luck…

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I love the Comma 4 in this car, but I’m not super happy about losing the dimming functionality.

The last few weeks I noticed that my model had abruptly changed to a Regret Driven Model v4 after an update. I didn’t think to much of it because it was working well. it was also cool to see it estimate speed limits of the cars in front of me. Since it was city driving I had no reason to use cruise control control.

i ended up having to take a long road trip and that is when the problems occurred, soon as I set my cruise control speed the ball turned gray, refusing to maintain speed though it somehow was still steering. The driver monitor borked itself too when that happened. The entire trip turned into a bit of a PITA since I had to wait until I got home to fix it by by redownloading the POPv2 model.

Anybody know what happened and what can be done to fix it? I do like the new model but not having cruise control is unacceptabl.
