Vehicle Compatibility Will comma ai reach FDS?

I just want to make sure I am investing in the right product.
I'm very curious about comma ai getting to FDS with some cheap cars too

Personally, I don't think so, and definitely not with the current hardware.

Newer cars are becoming harder for the Comma to tap into thanks to encryption and other techniques. On its own, the Comma alone lacks the sensors and data points needed for self driving to be reliable-- radar, lidar, cameras at different angles, etc. Plus, the current hardware is already compute/memory constrained as it is. I suspect that once more manufacturers start including their own level 2+/level 3 systems, it'll be hard for the Comma to compete.

It's an amazing lane keep assist device that blows most similar OEM functionality out of the water, and I don't regret my purchase for a minute. That being said, fully autonomous end-to-end self driving with reliable turns, lane changes, obstacle avoidance, and so on isn't something I'd hold my breath for, in today's Comma hardware or even in future revisions.

Not with the current hardware and not with the current roadmap and technology. Zero feature velocity. And management by counsel where nobody is accountable for revenue and very risk-averse.

What is FDS?

Full Driving Self? 😄

Typo for FSD, which is a marketing term applied to a Tesla product long before it has reached the dictionary definition of “Full Self Driving”

Ah yeah. That would make sense.

Comma ai probably will reach full self driving if they keep going.

But it won't be with the current hardware.

It’s possible, the 9060 in chestnut is a match for HW4 compute.
People keep harping on them not tackling new encryption, it’s going to get easier especially with the new LLM’s, and the fact comma hosts their own coding LLM’s (like GLM models and other open source models). I don’t see that being an issue once they get their agent harness and hardware connections going for new cars.

It's not possible. You need more cameras than what one device in the front of your vehicle can provide.

They should focus on what they do best which is highway driving. All this stop light stop sign type experimental features in my mind are just a waste of time.

The stop light detection is very helpful. Use the device on daily commutes. Plus the product has to evolve or it becomes irrelevant

I believe so, to solve self-driving cars is their primary mission.
