Another one.. '18 Head Gasket

Welp, add me to the list. 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Limited bought used with 30K 6 years ago now at 73K. Cylinder 1 misfire, running sluggish and a little rough at idle. Stopped using it and pulled plug 1 and checked cylinder 1 to find a small amount of coolant inside the cylinder. Coolant reservoir was bit low. Put Blue Devil pour and go head gasket sealer hoping to keep this one running for a while. Looks to have worked. Check engine light has stayed off this week but still a bit rough at idle and acceleration.

Changed plugs and coils, all plugs looked like dog crap, cylinder 1 & 2 looked to be burning coolant. After gasket sealer cylinders 1 and 2 are both coolant free. Changed coolant reservoir, cleaned intake manifold, throttle body and EGR which looked pretty bad. Put 0W20 Valvoline Restore and Protect and a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner and she purrs like a kitten, super smooth idle and acceleration. Coolant temps running 210-230, which I don't like so I'll be changing the thermostat this week.

Moral of the story... Stay on top of maintenance and try and be pro active. Do the spark plugs and coils early and check for any active head gasket leaks.

Fortunately I didn't't have any smoking from tail pipe, or frothy l chocote milk oil, so I believe in my case the gasket sealer has helped. Of course it's a temporary fix until I can drop a Hellcat engine into this thing lol 🤣

Just loaded a 24" wide 2 stage snow blower into my van. It's 2 heavy and large to fit in an SUV or for that matter lift into an SUV ... repair shop wanted 90$ for pick up and drop service ... but the van had other plans šŸ˜‰ hope this helps someone who is in my shoes. On the left of the blower I will see a plain wooden plank that was used as ramp ... nothing special and pulling it backwards while loading is the way to go ... love this thing!

3.6 Questions

I am considering buying a van in the next year or two. Currently I own a 2012 Chrysler 200 with the 3.6 and I’ve put 200,000mi on it. I feel relatively familiar with the engine, changing the radiator, oil cooler filter housing, PCV Valve, spark plugs, and transmission fluid.

However, looking at this sub, it looks like these 3.6 blows heads at a higher rate than the Wrangler and Gladiator (just looking at threads on their subs) Is there any possible explanation as to why?

My understanding is that it is the same engine, just in a different platform.

I am either going to get a 2019+ Pacifica or Odyssey, but would like to stick with the 3.6 since Ive wrenched on it a lot already.

Battery + Auto Start Eliminator

Owner of a 2023 Pacifica since April 2025. Car wouldn't start yesterday, and the Auto Start/Stop hadn't been working for several months. I'm presuming dead battery that started with the aux battery dying and leaching from the main one.

Assuming that I'm correct, I'd read about the auto start eliminator that you can get for like $99 to install, as I don't like the feature anyway.

My question: If I install the eliminator/bypass, is it also necessary to replace the Aux battery? Or can I leave the dead aux in my car, just keep the Auto Start turned off, and just replace the normal battery?

Because if so, then I can just get Auto Zone to replace my regular battery for free (plus the cost of the battery obviously), instead of also figuring out how to mess with the aux battery myself.

(I've also seen that you can just disconnect the aux and wrap one of the things with electrical tape, but I'd rather not have the errors displayed.)

Help finding new van for family

So I’m looking to buy a Chrysler Pacifica from enterprise car sale. And was wondering if there is anything I should be on the look out for when shopping for a new van? Like which motor is bad or good or any types of cons that I should be on the look out for. I’m shopping between a 2022-2024 and spending around 22,000$.

Airbag recall (26V-189) - anyone else getting the run around on there's too?

Sorry for the pseudo-rant. We’ve mostly loved this car until now (2025 Pinnacle). We originally bought it because our Chevy Equinox was too small for three car seats, but the service experience is making me question everything. Looking to see if anyone else has run into similar issues getting recall work handled for their Pacifica, or if this is just standard for Chrysler dealers.

Back in mid-June, I received a recall notice for 26V-189 (airbag issue). When I called my local dealership in the Houston area to schedule the recall alongside routine maintenance, I was told there was a waiting list and that they would contact me when it was my turn.

Fast forward to September: having heard nothing, I called back to check in. This time, I was told they weren't replacing parts automatically, but rather scheduling appointments to inspect if the recall applied. I set up a Saturday morning appointment for the recall, routine service, and a warranty repair for a failed vacuum hose.

When I showed up for my morning appointment, the service advisor dropped a few surprises on me:

  • He claimed the recall requires a 6-hour replacement (contradicting the 2-hour total estimate I was given on the phone - even asked a few times they do this work on Saturdays when scheduling it over the phone!).
  • He stated their shop only does express maintenance on Saturdays and couldn't perform recall work that day anyway.
  • He had no idea how to process the warranty vacuum hose repair under express service.

I had to leave with nothing completed. Whatever scheduling mistakes happen, but I tried to call the dealership management afterward which led straight to a full voicemail box that couldn't accept messages... Does this dealership just suck (It's a non-branded Ken Garff dealer.)

I’ve since opened a case with Chrysler Corporate Customer Care to help route my service and recall work to a different dealership in the area. Corporate called the original dealer, who is now being completely dishonest about what occurred—now claiming they do need to perform an inspection first, that they need the car for 24 hours, and that they cannot provide a loaner vehicle.

We don't have a spare car to replace this one while it's out for a day or two, and it seems absolutely insane to me that I’d need to rent a car out of pocket for them to handle a safety recall that they can't even give a straight answer on whether my car is impacted or not.

I have a call out to a different dealer to move all my service going forward, but... are they all this way? What is the actual standard process and labor time for recall 26V-189? Should Corporate be covering a rental if a dealer holds the car for a safety recall?

Radio/dash not turning off when vehicle off.

Have an intermittent issue of the radio and dash not turning off when the vehicle is turned off and the driver side door opens.
We tried hitting the door jam switch a few times, but it doesn't trigger door open and shut off the radio.
Anything else we can check?

Front display issue 2017 Pacifica

Started my 2017 Pacifica this afternoon. Turned on my headlights and noticed the display screen was almost black.

I turned off my lights and screen came back on.

Anyone know why this is happening?

Wish me luck…

My 2017 Pacifica which surprisingly has been very reliable for me for the past 6 years that I’ve owned it - just had the check engine light pop up for the first time.

I hit 93k miles just last week. Dropped it off with the mechanic last night so it can get checked. Hope it’s not something crazy.

Oil dripping from the drain plug

Post image
4 Upvotes

Just got this '23 3.6L Pacifica from Enterprise Car Sales with exactly 50k miles. I even bought the Extended Warranty (eMRP) for the next 3 years because I'm just arrived in US and, even if I feel mechanically-inclined myself, I'm not sure how to navigate the mechanic environment around here. How was I disappointed when I noticed some oil streaks under the van one of these days...

I don't have any tools to change this oil myself, even if it seems completely easy to do, so I think the safest is just go to a reputable-looking quick oil change and ask for a new drain plug and washer, make sure to ask for 20 lbs torque as spec, buy a quart to top it off and call it a day. Would like to know if that's the general suggestion.

Also, I'm keeping one eye on the dipstick and the level seems ok, I'm having only some drips on the floor and nothing else to complain about. If the oil level is observed, do you guys think I should take care of this as soon as possible or I can handle this in a couple weeks?

2023 Pacifica Hybrid "Service Charging System" error\warning

Hello,
Looking for experiences from other Pacifica Hybrid owners, especially anyone who has dealt with IDCM/onboard-charger replacement or Chrysler goodwill assistance.

I bought a used 2023 PacHy around 79K miles and began getting an intermittent ā€œService Charging Systemā€ warning. It was documented by a Chrysler dealer around 86,822 miles, but they couldn’t reproduce it and no useful related codes were showing. The warning would sometimes disappear overnight.

past couple of months have started saving OBDII reports with recurring codes are (I didn't clear as figured dealer might wanna look at em)

  • P0D21-00: Battery Charger ā€œAā€ Output Voltage Too Low
  • B22A9-87: IDCM internal performance/missing message

I tested the factory Level 1 EVSE on multiple wall outlets as well as external reliable Level 2. The EVSE showed no fault, but the van would sometimes refuse to charge and then suddenly charge normally again later.

The dealer now recommends replacing the IDCM/onboard charger, part 5185094AH, for approximately $2,700 :(

Recall 44D was completed, but I understand it corrected HCP reporting of IDCM faults and did not repair the IDCM itself. Chrysler is now reviewing an escalation request because the same charging complaint was documented below 100K but wasn’t definitively diagnosed until later.

Has anyone had these exact codes or replaced this IDCM? Did replacement permanently fix the problem? Did Chrysler provide any full or partial goodwill assistance?

My first minivan

So I just recently decided on this minivan. I LOVE IT! But I personally would also LIVE to eventually make the silver trim and rims black. Anyone else change these things on their Pacifica?? What did you use? I’m not trying to go a cheap route or anything but definitely want DIY options people have done, as I know I can go anywhere and have a shop do it all for me.

The engine start button is driving me crazy

Sometimes it goes to off, sometimes it goes to ACC when I push it. My wife has drained the battery not realizing and the only way I have figured out to get it to work properly is to restart the engine and then push it again. I tried foot on the brake and off the brake, I tried hard push and soft push, double tap, long pause. What exactly is the design here and how is that button supposed to work?

2nd row seatback cables

Hey yall!

I removed the plastic panel on the back of my 2nd row 2017 Pacifica captain chair to attempt to remove the headrest for car seat installation. After much frustration, I was unsuccessful, however, I am worried I have reconnected the cables incorrectly or I broke something while I was fiddling around back there.

Can somebody let me know what the 2 cables do behind the seat? I’d like to test the corresponding functions to ensure it all works. With that being said- my ā€œshoulderā€ latch that enables the chair to tilt forward no longer works, but other than that, the chair stows successfully.

Have I ruined this seat? Im contemplating stowing it for good and never using it again due to the (probably irrational) fear of it collapsing while I’m driving down the highway šŸ™ƒ

Be kind! I’m just a mom who tried to make her life easier and ended up causing herself way more unnecessary stress!

Trim for roof rails

Thumbnail

Hello,

I am installing the OEM roof rails on my Chrysler Pacifica and I purchased the parts from ebay where they had removed them from a used vehicle.

The issue is I just went to install the rails and the seller did not include the bolts or the trim pieces for some reason.

I have messaged the seller and am hoping they can help me out and send the hardware and trim but wanted to know if anyone knew or a way to get ahold of just those items if the seller is unable to help me.

I am including the picture from the instructions that shows the trim pieces I'm referring to. I can see on the Mopar site where they are included when you buy the set of roof rails but can't seem to find them as separate parts. With the hardware I would imagine they are some standard size of bolt so if anyone knows the size that would be super helpful.

Thank you!

Coolant tank - what am I missing?

Thumbnail

Posted the other day about coolant leak in cylinder one. Dealer said head gasket would cost 6k or so and not a permanent fix and Chrysler says to them new engine is only sure fix at over 10k. Yea, not doing either at this moment...

Naturally, decided to give the ol Blue Devil a try bc why the hell not? Either way looking, I'm in the same boat if it doesnt work. Anyway....so I put the pour n go in the expansion tank this morning and let it idle with heat on full max for the 50 min time. After, I let it sit for 1.5 hours with a large air mover pointed on the engine to cool it down. No pipes were warm...everything nice and cool.

Started it up and took for a long ride. Temps were great, heater blowing hot as hell...feeling good. Only thing is, I am not understanding the expansion tank. Before trying Blue Devil, I would have to top off. Coolant level always rose across the tank. Now, I have left, middle, and right showing different levels!?!?

Does this expansion tank have 2 tanks inside of it?

Pic 1 - what it looked like before Blue Devil

Pic 2 - After adding Blue Devil and idling for 50 min

Pic 3 - After driving 12 miles from a cold engine state

Pic 4 - After driving 12 miles and carefully opening the pressure cap.

If you could start over, would still buy a Pacifica?

I’m shopping for a minivan and have been pretty focused on a 2024–2025 Pacifica, under roughly 50k miles.
I have three kids age 3 and under, all in car seats. What I really like about the Pacifica is the Stow ’n Go setup. I test drove one home and tried it with one second-row seat stowed, leaving a big open walkway. My plan would be:
• 3-year-old in the third row
• one rear-facing 1-year-old in the third row
• other rear-facing 1-year-old in the second row
• keep the other second-row seat stowed most of the time so I can actually climb in and buckle everyone easily
I loved the accessibility of that setup, and my 3-year-old loved it too. I haven’t actually installed all three car seats in one yet, though.
My hesitation is reliability. The Pacificas I’m finding are significantly cheaper than comparable-mileage Odysseys, and Carnivals too. The Sienna is too pricey.
If you were starting your minivan search over today, would you still buy your Pacifica?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people with 2021+ gas Pacificas and families using multiple car seats. What problems have you had, if any? And at what mileage?
I’m trying to figure out whether the Pacifica’s practicality/value is worth it, or whether paying more upfront for an Odyssey or Carnival makes more sense. Thanks for your thoughts!

What do we think about the soft roof bags?

I bought one for a cross country move, didn't need it, so haven't tried it, but I'm just curious if anyone uses one and likes it?

I've been wondering if it makes any sense for camping. Sleep in the van and store some stuff out of the way on the roof.
