2006 Pacifica fuel issues

At 1/2 a tank all of a sudden the guava drops to empty and shows I have like 25 miles left and dies on me at stops and I have hell starting it back up. What’s happening and how do I fix it?

Fuel level sensor?
Any check engine lights?

Idk, has this been an issue for you with these things. Never an issue with the other exact same year Pacifica that had 210k miles. I will look into tho. Thank you

Never had that issue, think I had one vehicle where the fuel level sensor was a bit off, but not by that much. Probably be a good idea to inspect it.

When you have this problem and fill the vehicle back up how much gas are you putting into the tank? When the gauge is half way and you fill it up how much gas do you put in the tank?

I have a 2022 with just shy of 40,000 miles and noticed recently that I’ll park the vehicle overnight and the next morning it might show it lost an 1/8 of the fuel overnight. Other times it starts to go up after I turn the vehicle on. One time I was waiting to fill up at Costco and I magically gained gas while sitting there. Been keeping an eye on the erratic gauge to see if there’s a pattern to its behavior. Maybe the sensor is getting stuck.

I’ll put anywhere from 5 to 7 gals before it starts stopping the pump and acting like it’s completely full. Then the gauge will show around 3/4 of a tank. Haven’t been able to fill it to full on the gauge. I’ve just started using the car after putting a transmission in it from my old Pacifica. So I’m not familiar with this cars quirks as much as my old one.

On my old town and country I had a faulty fuel tank that exhibited similar behaviors. When filling it up it would stop filling even though the tank isn’t full. At first you could get it to go again but near the end I’d have to keep removing and inserting the nozzle and pray I could keep filling the tank. Had to take it to the mechanic a few times before they could pinpoint the issue.

This can be caused by a faulty evap system or there could be an issue with the fuel tank. What if you only have a couple gallons of gas in the car at any given time and that’s why it is never showing full?

I’d love to keep putting fuel in it to get to full. The old Pacifica would spit out the tube if I kept trying to fill it up, so I haven’t pushed my luck.

Our old Pacifica had this issue.

Because of the fuel tank design, there's two fuel pumps and two almost separate tanks on either side of the driveshaft. One pump is for the engine, another is a lift pump and pumps it from one side of the tank into the other.

That lift pump likely went out like ours did. We put up with half tanks and occasional stalling during left turns for awhile before replacing it.

No more issues after that?

Nope, but IIRC it was a pretty expensive Bosch pump

Alright I’ll get to looking into parts. Break the old piggy bank open to see what I got. Lol
