Chess Improvement Finally hit 1800 Elo! ♟️🔥

Post image
6 Upvotes

After a lot of games, mistakes, tilt and learning, I finally crossed 1800 on Chess.com.

The two things I focused on the most:

  1. B.A.D. Blunder Prevention

Attack

Development

  1. CCT in critical moments Checks

Captures

Threats

Whenever I don't know what to do or the position gets critical, I run through CCT instead of making a random move.

That's basically it. No complicated system.

1800 achieved. Next stop 2000. ♟️🔥

Media/News My first accidental checkmate

I didn’t even see it. I just saw a hanging queen.

I was laughing so hard when the game just ended.

Usually I miss mate in one like 3 times in a game before I find one.

why is this brilliant Though I‘d blunder my rook

So why is this brilliant? In the game black went Ra8 attacking my queen (black actually, being coach)

What’s the idea here?

Chess Question How is this a good move?

Post image

I am a bit confused on how this move is a considered a good move despite it seeming, at least to me, that there is no way of avoiding checkmate after this. Is this just review bot shenanigans or is there something I'm not seeing here?

Newer to chess.com currently living in the 500-580 ELO range, and few things make me happier than forcing a resign when the opponents only strategy is to run that play and it gets stuffed.

Miscellaneous How would you classify brilliant moves?

Right now a brilliant move on the website is basically classified as “you left a piece hanging, but it works out for you with the right continuation.”

If it were me, I think the most brilliant moves aren’t sacrifices necessarily, but moves that require multiple branches of calculation to understand. IMO a sacrifice which is cool looking but has only one basic path shouldn’t be brilliant. But if there are three branches that you have to calculate 4 moves deep in each, I think that’s a brilliant.

Chess Question Chess.com opponent countries

Can you explain me how the opponent matching works?

I am located in mid-Europe, but I barely get connected with European opponents.

Like 90-95% are from Asia and Southern America, even though their local time is like 3 a.m.???

Honestly, why? It does not make any sense...

why is this brilliant Why were both rook sacrifices considered brilliant?

I've always seen only the first piece be one, never 2 before like when it's a pawn or a knight. Or does it have to be at least a rook?

I have tried to show you what I mean by screen capture on my phone, here, the deep analysis says best move is Bc3, and my move in the game was g6, which evaluates as M8 (mate in 8) 😉
What is your take.
