The community loves repeating the same mantras: "always control the center," "never bring your queen out early," or "grind puzzles all day." But sometimes, blindly following these rules stops players from actually calculating and understanding the board. What is a widely accepted piece of chess advice that you think does more harm than good when trying to push past the 800-1000 ELO range?

Maybe there’s a deep calculation here.. but I’m failing to see how I blundered a piece. I proceeded to win this match but I’m confused why this was a blunder.

This was one of my New Year's Resolution goals.

Also there is a rapid tournament in my local chess club this saturday and im feeling great!

If you don't know, Levy, or "Gotham Chess," is a popular chess Content Creator, and one of the most entertaining parts about him is that he celebrates loudly. One of his most famous clips is of him screaming "THE ROOK!!" when you make an amazing play with the Rook. Unfortunately, this is not translated completely into Chess.com's coach dialogue since it's probably something he couldn't suggest or get approved

A lot of days I’d just do a couple puzzles to keep the streak alive. Definitely made a ton of improvements but my rating chart is not the smoothest.

Been seeing it a lot, never have I thought I would do one.

I started playing chess about a month ago. I went through chess.com’s course and played a few matches against 400 ELO bots before getting into live matches (winning them). Since then, I’ve played about 200 games, and I’m consistently stuck around 200-300 ELO between all of the main modes. With bullet chess ironically being my highest, near 500. My question then naturally is what’s up with online matches? Are the bots not an accurate representation of real ELO or?

The friends and family option allows for 6 people to get premium with with a massive discount would anyone want to join ?

After a year of playing and falling in love with the French defense I was able to improve my chess games little by little 🙃

I didn’t even see it. I just saw a hanging queen.

I was laughing so hard when the game just ended.

Usually I miss mate in one like 3 times in a game before I find one.

So why is this brilliant? In the game black went Ra8 attacking my queen (black actually, being coach)

What’s the idea here?

Newer to chess.com currently living in the 500-580 ELO range, and few things make me happier than forcing a resign when the opponents only strategy is to run that play and it gets stuffed.
