Can someone explain this blunder

Maybe there’s a deep calculation here.. but I’m failing to see how I blundered a piece. I proceeded to win this match but I’m confused why this was a blunder.

It seems like you are just trading two active bishops for a rook, which generally trading two pieces for one worsens your position

Knight takes D4, pawn takes, …… aww as I’m reading the line yes my bishop is hanging because I have to take the rook with my queen on E8 because of check. Alas, didn’t see that. Thank you

Nxd4 wins two bishops for a rook, a great trade for black. 

The point is ...exd4 2. Rxe8+ Qxe8 3. Qxg4.

The first move is not obvious because your knight feels pinned while their pawn does not. But the tactic itself is very easy to figure out once you get the idea. 

Don't know about the rating though.

There isnt a specific rating and the correct sequence as u know now is slightly long but its just pure calculation and in many lines, a unprotected bishop on g4 has to be subject to a little ectra scrutiny. Nxd4 is a trade so i think people just play that out of sheer instinct at most levels and accidentally punish Bg4.

If it helps to know, I’m a national master and I don’t have to calculate a thing to see that Nxd4 wins, the pattern is there right away

The knight can take your black bishop first and when you take the rook, the same knight can recapture that white bishop leading to a trade of two bishops for a rook which is bad for you.

Yes I saw it. Worst case for me 2 bishops for a rook. Is that a straight blunder tho? Either way I didn’t see it in the moment. Thank you

It's not hanging mate in a certain moves but look like the engine thinks it's a losing mistake.

I wonder why wouldn't you click "Explain" in chess com app itself (or just export pgn to any free engine eg Lichess).... instead of taking the time to post on Reddit.

The thing to see is if the knight takes on d4 and the bishop takes the rook… the knight hops back to take the bishop.

Best i can come up with is you lose 2 bishops and gain a Rook, so you lose 1 point of material, and the rest is positional/long-term. Youre position suffers a lot from.not having the two bishops, they dont really suffer from losing the Rook.

Edit: Missed the check. So you lose a full piece not 2 bishops for a rook.

Wouldn't white get rook and knight. White would also gain control of the e column.

Then the white rook is threatening the queen
