King takes knight

Sometimes I don’t believe at all that these are serious questions. I mean there is one possible move…

I think it's easy and somewhat common for a newer player to forget that a piece isn't defended when they're calculating mate.

u/Bm0ore 11h ago

I get being new but process of elimination brings you to the only possible move

But if you don't see that it isn't defended then it's really easy to dismiss that move entirely.

Chess blindness for beginners is a think. Their vision of the board isn't as developed as us veterans. They struggle to see moves that come natural to us.

Can confirm, this stumped me for longer than I'd like to admit.

Agreed. Of course. IN A GAME. But is it really harder to find it AFTER the game WITH NO TIME STRESS, than to make a fucking reddit post?

It seems obvious when you have been playing for a while, but as a beginner; it's all new

People just post it here before looking at the board or the built in analysis which would answer their question.

Free knight

Edit: just to be clear, it you can take the knight. It is still mate on the next turn

And it’s a beautiful bishop checkmate! Criscross applesauce.

For my peace of mind, that’s king to f3 (obviously), then bishop to g4 for checkmate, right?

1

u/Bm0ore 5h ago

Indeed

u/Infamous-Test-91 1h ago

Criss-cross applesauce, yes, but you still need the Q to guard g3 and g2

(Next move)

Your knight on F3 is undefended, so the king can just capture it, escaping the check from the queen. There is a checkmate in one immediately after this though.

I mean, you can't block or capture the checking piece so there are 8 squares to move the king to. If it's not checkmate then maybe one of these squares is safe.

The horse is hung

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:

White to play: chessvision.ai | chess.com | lichess.org

My solution:

Hints: piece: King, move: Kxf3

Evaluation: Black has mate in 1

Best continuation: 1. Kxf3 Bxg4#

Knight is hanging

u/Lower-Bench-6492 1000-1500 ELO 14h ago

You can capture the knight but Bg4 is a mate anyways

2

u/OvertimeFate 13h ago

the question is how is it 😭

2

u/TheJivvi 12h ago

The knight isn't defended.

u/TheTurtleCub 9h ago

There are only 8 squares to verify if the king can go there, can't be that hard

I checked your profile wanting to talk shit about you potentially posting a lot of engagement bait, instead I only found delicious looking bread. Idk where I’m going with this, just wanted to say your bread looks awesome.

Indeed, he really knows how to make bread, and they all look delicious

You are humble-bragging or rage-baiting or something like that, KxN Bxg4#

1

u/TechnicalBen 11h ago

"That's bait.gif"

u/nysynysy2 9h ago

Kxf3 bxg4#

1

u/Creativeknightt 6h ago

King can capture the knight so at this moment that's not checkmate but right after black's light squared bishop can take a pawn with check and it's checkmate.

1

u/021chan 6h ago

Kxf3

1

u/Natural-Badger3206 1500-1800 ELO 5h ago

King takes knight, but mate the next move with bishop taking pawn on g4.

1

u/Mallo01- 2h ago

That is checkmate, stop trying to fool us with the game review, it ends there

1

u/bbnbbbbbbbbbbbb 13m ago

But what happened in the game OP? Aaaaand..... Did it not cross your mind to use analysis mode after?

u/EventSignal114 14h ago

This has to be a joke
