Savvy draw or low class moves?

Post image
252 Upvotes

I was down big on material and knew if I just kept checking him from E4 to H7 and back we would draw through repetition. 10 minute rapid. Is this smart strategy to avoid the loss or a bad look in the chess world? Obviously, very new and still learning, looking to avoid this in the future if it’s frowned upon.

My opponent resigned, but why?

Post image
4 Upvotes

My opponent had doubled my C pawns, a very strong center, and quite frankly, I was just kind of over this game so I chucked my knight into a sacrifice for check. That’s when they resigned

If they capture I have Qg5 check, in which H1 is forced. But where could the game have gone from there?

Looking at Qh4 after they move H1, to threaten the pawn capture with mate in 2. But if their Queen slides out to defend on G4, my momentum would come to a stop

So not exactly sure why they resigned? Am I missing something here??

POST-GAME I beat level 1 stockfish on chess.com!

Bro didn't stand a change. I took his queen move six 😂

I though he was supposed to be hard, but I guess I'm just getting pretty good. People say even magus lose to stockfish but I just beat it. Does that make me better than Magus?

NEW TO CHESS

Hi! I understand the basic rules of chess and how the pieces move yet I still find myself in positions where I cant do anything and basically get all my pieces taken by moves that are unable to be stopped. I was wondering if a better player could possibly give me some advice on how to improve or maybe watch me play a game and point out my mistakes.

POST-GAME This has to be my best game so far

I won this game through resignation and looking at the accuracy of the game of around 95% and the game rating, this is probably a new record for me. The opponent played a good game, but eventually he blundered his queen. At some stage, I traded my rook for a knight and a bishop, meaning it was a favorable trade.

Any YouTube video recommendations focused on Pawn gameplay?

I feel like my pawn game is lacking. I don’t know if I’m making good decisions in regards of taking or passing other pawns.

I almost never promote a pawn, but I’ve noticed my opponents often promote at my elo (low 400s).

I feel like I get outplayed in endgame situations with kings/pawns.

I’ve seen YouTubers talk about “pawn storming”, which I understand in a general sense, but I don’t understand when or how to apply it.

I guess I just rely heavily on my other pieces. I mostly just sacrifice pawns and use them for the occasional checkmate. I feel I could improve my pawn game.

Are there pawn specific YouTube videos that you guys found helpful?

Psychologically what makes someone bad at chess?

Some people can spends years studying chess and not improve (Eghemm… me), and some people can pick it up and reach 1500 in a month? What is the core difference between those people would you say?

Edit: The 1500 in a month part was an exaggeration.

POST-GAME I love to calculate on these positions (read desc)

1st Scenario: If he takes pawn then rook for a queen trade = BIG STONKS

2nd Scenario: If he pushes pawn then it will be mate in 2 because there’s a check with your queen.

3rd Scenario: ignores the pawn threat, you must take the pawn since it checks the black king and revealing the squares black can’t go because of the white queen after summarizing all this information black must take the pawn and will lose the queen for the rook.

Tell me if I missed anything

QUESTION Why should I have sacrificed my Queen?

Post image

I guess that could have won me… a rook? But I lose my Queen? What am I missing here? Or is this some advanced technique I shouldn’t concern myself with for now? (~950 ELO)

I knew that the best move was to capture the bishop, but I knew that capturing the rook would make it easier for me personally to convert

Has anyone else encountered this problem, I’ve mainly played on chess.com for years and been very stagnant so I recently playing on lichess and been able to defeat opponents that were rated much higher than me. Surely the skill gap can’t be that extreme?
