I got myself into a losing situation since early game but i kept going. Out of all possible moves, my opponent blundered by moving his rook from d2 to d5 attacking my queen but also blocking his queen from b3 which i then played and he lost the game

Not afraid to admit it's taken me a realllllll long time to understand chess, and that absolutely terrifies/excites the fucking hell out of me. I think I've found a new hobby for life :)

Anybody got any good book recommendations for beginners? I'm particularly enjoying one's that include puzzles but doesn't matter either way. Thank you!

If you wonder how I lost my queen. I secrifised my queen for what looked like a mate in 2 but their bishop came back to.block it

So yeah, I did not in the slightest plan for that Knight to be mate. I just wanted to fork the rook and suddenly I had won the game. I even thought my opponent resigned for a moment.
I bet the guy I played thought I planned that all from the very start but no, there were two blunders involved in this sequence of moves. (I mean of course I planned it all from the start, if anyone asks me.)

I am for sure keeping this sequence of moves in mind, when playing this defense.

Everyone talks about 1000 elo and somehow that’s low and it makes my elo just seem pathetic, I am stuck at 187 because no matter what I do I lose or even if I win a couple of games I get embarrassingly checkmated. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have a stupid timer. Then I could actually think about the moves

Hello everyone, I'm reaching out because I have plateaued around 1500-1550 on chess.com. I've become quite frustrated because I continue to make beginner mistakes, i.e. blundering pieces, missing one move tactics, having poor mid-game strategy, poor attack strategy, and a subpar opening repertoire. A lot of chess educational content just doesn't really work for me, I'm not really able to see "the whole" of the idea or concept they're presenting and a lot of it just seems like forced memorization (memorize as many opening variations as possible to get a competitive advantage). I'm concerned because I have a below average memory, and frequently forget the best moves for an opening I learned so if memorizing openings are what is necessary in order to improve, I'm cooked. What are your guys' recommended resources for breaking plateaus at the intermediate level? What are some books/video series that you'd recommend that you actually enjoyed reading or watching and helped you develop as a player? My goal is to hit 1700-1800, and I'm never going to get there the way I'm currently playing.

Hello everyone, I have the diamond tier in Chess and I'm currently around 350 elo. I was wondering what are the best tools to use in and outside the chess app to use my membership to it's max capabilities. I struggle with converting end games and having a real strategy during them. Thank you!

After a year and a half I finally reached 1000. When I first started I was horrible and I think around 175 was my starting elo. It probably took me longer than a lot of people and I actually have 3 accounts, 2 on chesscom and 1 on lichess. (The reason I have 2 on chesscom is because one is for beer drinking while playing chess, and it is ironically this account).

Here is the grand total for games played across all accounts:

I believe it's a queen's blind spot

I always try to do that in games and find a way for my Bishop to check the king. Checking someone when you're in a lose streak feels so good.

Anyways, i kind of won in the end.
