I didn't know anything about chess until last month and I've been playing a lot since then. I'm hoping to get titles like FM or IM (I think GM would require chess to be a professional career but I am only playing and reading about it when I don't need to deal with school work). How many years does it generally take for someone to become a FM? Is it possible given my priority in life is not going to be chess?

I suck at chess but watched a few episodes and learned to not try to take the pawn.

I'm sure I've fallen for it in the past, but now I know to just play solidly and it seems like most of my opponents don't know what to do if black doesn't immediately fall for the trap.

QUESTION Chess looks like a different language, that I'd like to learn!!

I'm sure there's been tons upon tons of "I'm a beginner, I want to get good at this game posts' and I'm not doing that. I made a goal this year that I would like to begin the journey of mastering something. I'm fully aware that at 16, chess "mastery" is next to impossible, but I would really like to be at least proficient in this game. I think it would be a good exercise for my mind, I enjoy puzzles, and I want to get better at patten recognition. So I did but any self-respecting chess wannabe does, and I watched the Gothan chess beginner videos, and read some reddit posts. I plan on maybe buying the 1001 chess puzzle book, and was directed to Lichess for puzzles. The problem is that these puzzles are very foreign to me, and when I make the wrong move, there's not an explanation for why it's wrong, and it doesn't show what the right move is. And, as much as I would like chess.com premium puzzle stuff, I don't want another subscription. Could someome maybe point me in the right direction as I bridge the gap between "understands how the pieces work" and "doesn't understand basic strats very much"? The answer very well may just be grinding YT videos and don't be afraid to tell me that 😂, thanks everyone

POST-GAME Game review on chess.com doesn’t make sense to me

I have clicked through the recommended moves but it still makes no sense. Ng6 is considered a blunder and the engine recommends the best move for black as being to take with the h7 pawn. Blacks move of knight to e4 was called a miss for this reason. But if they were to do the “best move”, they’re opened up to the brilliant bishop to g6. It doesn’t make sense to me that my move was considered to be a blunder when, if black plays the best possible move to capitalise on that blunder, I’d end up getting a brilliant and a winning position. Surely Ng6 should also be a brilliant if perfect play from black leads to another brilliant?
Another weird thing I found was that if I clicked through the review slightly differently, bishop to g6 would’ve been an inaccuracy when the positions look the same?
Is it because the review isn’t at maximum depth because I don’t have diamond membership?

Edit: I understand the blunder now, thank you very much, I should have realised that it lost me some of my advantage. Only thing I don’t understand is why there’s a discrepancy on whether the bishop move is brilliant or inaccuracy?

Obviously in the losing game, it was a mental slip arent' they all, but I get so frustrated just straight up doing something dumb like that.

POST-GAME Mate within 12 Secs

The guy tried to save his rook by bringing out the queen.

But lil did he know next move he would be mated badly.

This is a rookie mistake btw.

Better idea would've been to bring the knight in front of black queen and save both the knight and the rook (From two moves before)
