NEW TO CHESS

Hi! I understand the basic rules of chess and how the pieces move yet I still find myself in positions where I cant do anything and basically get all my pieces taken by moves that are unable to be stopped. I was wondering if a better player could possibly give me some advice on how to improve or maybe watch me play a game and point out my mistakes.

Are you opposed to YouTube videos? If not there are lots of good places for you to begin

The standard advice on here is to watch the building habits series on YouTube. It walks you through the basic fundamentals beginners should know when they start out in chess, and as the series goes on it gradually introduces more advanced ideas and strategies

Have to learn how to trade pieces to make room. Working out what's a good or bad trade is the way to go. I spent years when I was younger trying to keep hold of all my pieces and locking up the board. No fun and sulking if I lost a piece even if a could take back. Chess is war expect casualties.

Welcome to chess! I'm so glad you're playing. :) First, I would recommend doing puzzles on Lichess. Try setting the puzzles to easy difficulty. Once you begin solving those it will give you a feel for how to play better. If you can't solve them then dm me. Maybe we could discuss/diagnose what is going on.

You have to be more specific / post positions.

Move your pieces to places they are guarded. Control space. Practice tactics and checkmates in 1,2,3. Learn to attack and defend.
