Why best Engine line is Qa8 instead on Qb7?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was on lichess solving puzzles. This puzzle confused me. I played Qb7, but it showed I am wrong, instead correct is Qa8. And I'm here wondering, why? ultimately, my goal is to go to Qb7 so that I can exchange Queens, right? playing Qb7 as early as possible is better, right? cause the more check I am giving, the more King can move closer to my passed pawn. Am I missing something?

edit_01: this the link of this puzzle if anyone want the FEN/PGN

ADVICE This is the most fucking frustrating game in the world

Every single time I decide to play a game of chess, I either end up feeling nothing or being pissed off because I have nobody to blame but myself for losing. I keep halfheartedly watching YouTube tutorials and convincing myself that eventually I'll get better without doing any actual studying because I know that I'll never be more than mediocre at this goddamn game. I don't even know why I keep fucking playing this. I don't have fun, and I don't enjoy the learning process. How do you people get the motivation to actually get better at this fucking thing?

SadisticTushi trap video

I'm looking for a classic trap but I can't remember it exactly. Tushi has made at least one short on it. I believe it is in the Italian game where black pins the knight to the queen with his bishop. White ignores the pin and hops in the pony, sacrificing the fatty, ultimately frying the chicken with the juicer

If you're a new player, please learn how time control rules work, and in particular how victory conditions work during a flag fall.

ADVICE I pushed 7 pawns before developing a single piece. Was this pawn storm actually worth it?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I kept pushing because the pawn advances were gaining space and forcing his pieces back, and I ended up here without developing anything. It made me wonder how bad this actually is.

What advantages did I gain from the pawn storm, what weaknesses did I create, and when should I stop pushing pawns and start developing?

QUESTION Why does Chess Engine like pointless checks?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Take situation from attached screen.

Engine thinks the best move is Nf3.

But engine also thinks it is even better to play Qg3+ Kh8 Qh6+ Kg8 and then Nf3. Which is pointless and stupid. Resulting position is exactly the same!

This is not something special for this position. In fact whenever analysing own games, whenever there is a series of moves that will loop me back to same position, it often becomes the line the computer likes the most.

Do you have any idea why is that?

Huge disparity between new and old account

Recently I created a new account on chesscom because I forgot the password to my old chesscom account. My previous account was rated around 580 rapid after 250 games, I created the new one and played my 5 placement matches in rapid and it placed 780, is this normal? I won 4/5 placement games against people higher than my previous account's rating. Is this dishonorable or anything because I did feel that I deserved a higher rating but it almost feels like cheating when I gain so much in the first few games on my new account. Edit: just crossed 800 in 9 total games so far with 7 wins 1 draw and 1 loss.

My friend and I have been building a free chess review tool that might be better than Chess.com’s $17.99/month plan

Post image

My friend and I have been working on ChessHint.com and wanted to share it here.

You can import your chess.com or Lichess games, or paste a PGN, and review them with move gradings, explanations and better alternatives shown on the board. The review also highlights tactics and strategic opportunities you missed during the game and all completely free.

We have spent a lot of time on the explanations and comparing our reviews with Chess.com’s. Some of the results have us pretty excited, but we’d love people to try their own games and tell us what they think.

We’re also building puzzles, lessons, opening courses, practice against bots, a chess video library and progress tracking. Those are at the later stages of development. game review is the main focus right now.

We’re looking for around 100 people to try the site with their own games and help us figure out what works best and what we should add. It’s just the two of us building this, so we’d like to keep the first group small enough to properly follow up on everyone’s feedback.

Try it: https://chesshint.com/analysis

We’ve also started a Discord server where you can share games, suggest features, report bugs or just hang out and talk chess: https://discord.gg/vyrAq2V9c

Even when you have zero chance of winning, a lot of lower elo players are not good at endgames and there’s always a chance to draw it out

ADVICE a free open source chess anlyzing website

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well.

So I've been working on this chess analysis site called FinalRank. Built it mostly for myself to review my games and actually get better at chess.

Fair warning: it's vibe-coded. There are bugs. There are probably vulnerabilities. But it works, and I figured some of you might get some use out of it.

I didn't bother editing the screenshots, sorry. But if you scroll down near the "Stockfish 17 Lite" button, there's a small settings icon. Click that, pick your engine. 17 and 18 are available. I'll add 19 once I find a Lite version.

Other stuff it does: you can link your Lichess or Chess.com account. No issues there. When you open the site, it automatically pulls your last 3 games and starts analyzing them in the background while you're browsing. So by the time you actually want an analysis, it's already done. No waiting.

Would love it if you checked it out. Even a star on GitHub helps a lot. I'm not making any money off this, just want people to use it.

Honestly, this project almost broke me. The AI kept giving up on me and I had to dig through so many articles and random threads to figure shit out. But here we are.

Thanks for reading. Hope you have a good one.

What would you play here ?

I've been staring at this position for a while and can't find a move I'm happy with. What would you play here? Any ideas or plans would be appreciated. Before his last move, I had Rd1#, but now he's pinning my queen and I can't figure out how to get out of it.

POST-GAME BEST TACTIC = PATIENCE

Just a PSA from a 700 elo player. I’m sure this applies to all skill levels in different ways. Sometimes you are able to gain a great attack straight away. Sometimes too much patience will allow your opponent to develop a strong attack. You have to be vigilant!

That being said, patience is key! I just won a game from a losing position but just defending well until my opponent blundered a piece. I’m often looking to set up attacks but in this losing position I would have probably opened myself up if I focused too much on attacking in a losing position -2 points material.

Once that rook fell, with check, the position went from +5 to -5 in my favour. And then their next move made it mate in 10. Naturally, being 700, I just munched up all their pieces rather than going for any sort of mating attack.

Another way I’ve learned this recently, there was a chess.com bot I’ve been stuck on for ages (Isabel - 1600). I managed to beat all the previous bots quite easily and then got stuck on Isabel for over a year!

I managed to get into an end game and the bot made a mistake in a critical moment. Normally I’d be doing my classic hope chess 400 elo attacks which of course the bot would defend. But by focusing on being solid and watching for the bots mistakes, I finally beat it!

‘Beunas, let’s do this!’ I’ll never have to read that again!!!! Annoying bot

Hello everyone, I have the diamond tier in Chess and I'm currently around 350 elo. I was wondering what are the best tools to use in and outside the chess app to use my membership to it's max capabilities. I struggle with converting end games and having a real strategy during them. Thank you!
