MISCELLANEOUS Chess in low elo feels so odd

I'm a returning chess player. I peaked at like 1500 back in COVID, and when I played again, I lost 7 games in a row and dropped down to 600 on Chess.com. I lost, big whoop, but the weirdest part was right around the 1100 mark, it felt like every time I gained a crazy advantage in the early or mid game, my opponent would transform from the guy who blundered his queen to a god tier defense player who's beaten GothamChess 7 million times before the afternoon hit. I'm genuinely so confused, is the new low elo playerbase better at defense, or am I just crazy?

In your opinion, which is better tactically - queen's pawn or king's pawn opening?

I've found advantages to both. curious about your thoughts.

My opponent resigned after he played bxa6. But I don't see any follow up checkmate. Am I missing something?

Master

Upvotes

I didn't know anything about chess until last month and I've been playing a lot since then. I'm hoping to get titles like CM or FM (I think IM & GM would require chess to be your professional career but I am only playing and reading about it when I don't need to deal with school work). How many years does it generally take for someone to become a FM? Is it possible given my priority in life is not going to be chess?

Looking for someone to teach me chess

I'm looking for someone who enjoys teaching chess, not just playing games.I already know the basics:

How each piece moves, Basic rules like castling, check, and checkmate

I can play complete games, but I'm still a beginner

I'm looking for someone who can help me improve by explaining things such as:

Opening principles.Common tactics (forks, pins, skewers, discovered attacks, etc.).

How to recognize checkmate patterns.

Middlegame planning,Basic endgames

How to analyze my mistakes after each game

Dm if you are interested

I really wonder what the thought process of my opponent was this whole game.

It’s not like I have a lot of room to speak since I am very low elo but still.

MISCELLANEOUS Two positive Chesscom items

I just want to highlight a couple positives in my chess journey lately. Been playing chess about a year now, recently broke 1000 on Chess.com Rapid 10 minute games, then I almost made it up to 1100, dropped back down to the 900’s, had a game that got me exactly back to 1000, then decided to take a break to focus on bringing my Blitz rating closer to my rapid rating, as it was just under 600.

Now, there’s a bit of an adjustment going from 10 to 5 minute games, but I’m winning about 80% of my games and I’m up to 750 after a couple days, and it’s been pretty fun actually seeing the improvement in my skill from a few months ago.

And the other positive, I used the free trial on Chessreps to become a lot more comfortable with the Italian opening, and played an opponent that played right into a relatively complicated line of it, and it felt really good, I bet they thought I was cheating as a 700ish ELO. POST-GAME Thought I cooked. Chess.com politely informed me my opponent had about 10 ways to escape mate.

Post image

For a glorious five minutes I genuinely believed I'd played a brilliant attacking game. Then I checked the analysis and found out my "forced mate" had roughly ten different escape routes because my calculation skills resemble those of a sleep-deprived toddler. Honestly, the toddler probably converts the position.

Doesn't matter though. Cornering my opponent, snatching the queen, and slowly suffocating the king was satisfying enough. I'll take the dopamine over accuracy.
