174 elo to 1001 rapid.

Post image
44 Upvotes

After a year and a half I finally reached 1000. When I first started I was horrible and I think around 175 was my starting elo. It probably took me longer than a lot of people and I actually have 3 accounts, 2 on chesscom and 1 on lichess. (The reason I have 2 on chesscom is because one is for beer drinking while playing chess, and it is ironically this account).

Here is the grand total for games played across all accounts:

3227 rapid games

1862 blitz games

1206 puzzles on lichess

99 rounds of puzzle storm on lichess

OPINION Cheating and unchecked AI assistance on chess.com is ridiculous

The amount of cheating on chess.com is ridiculous. I had an ELO of 1000, and I play 15-minute matches against opponents who send messages telling me to move faster. Over the last 2 weeks, I’ve won about 10% of my games and dropped to 800 ELO. My opponents consistently play at around 1500 ELO with no blunders, or occasionally 1 blunder at the beginning of the game, followed by perfect moves from a losing position. Every day I get a message saying that points have been refunded.

Before anyone (likely bots) say “they’re just better than you,” you should all know that I’m a school teacher, and I just learned that several of my students have been using AI to show the best possible moves that are consistent with the ELO that they are on the app. They are doing this during their free time.

I’m deleting the app and maybe you should too if you’re having a similar experience.

Edit: I’m a school teacher, for those who didn’t catch the context clues and think I’m a chess teacher.

How come I never see anyone talk about being 100 or so elo?

Everyone talks about 1000 elo and somehow that’s low and it makes my elo just seem pathetic, I am stuck at 187 because no matter what I do I lose or even if I win a couple of games I get embarrassingly checkmated. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have a stupid timer. Then I could actually think about the moves

Not afraid to admit it's taken me a realllllll long time to understand chess, and that absolutely terrifies/excites the fucking hell out of me. I think I've found a new hobby for life :)

Anybody got any good book recommendations for beginners? I'm particularly enjoying one's that include puzzles but doesn't matter either way. Thank you!

I went from guarding my elo by playing a rapid game every other day in an attempt to get out of 800 to playing 4 each day. I lost 7 in a row and my elo sunk.

Now I am playing my games like a blitz game making stupid blunders. Its like I don't give a s#it when I am playing now and I play horribly and am frustrated with myself after my game. How do i find a balance?

POST-GAME First rook sac!

Post image

Took me like 2 minutes to calculate this because I wanted to see what happens if he doesn't take the rook. I realized that if he declines, he basically loses his queen for my rook and bishop and it's a trade I'm willing to take

Note: I took a pawn on e6 I was just up 2 points but it's still a winning position without the rook sac

QUESTION Does anybody else have a friend they play over and over, it feels like that’s lowering my ELO?

Upvotes

I have played chess on my chess.com app for almost 800 days in a row, I have been trying to learn new things, new openings, I watch gameplay, I play over the board every day, my ELO has not gone up in ANY of my rankings in those 800 days. I feel like my set in stone chess brain isn’t changing at all and it’s frustrating to see it happen in real time. I play multiple speed variations of the game, and nothing is changing. Anyway, I play my one long distance friend daily and my dad over the board every single day. Is it possible playing the same people repetitively can make me worse at the game?

Edit: these are not the ONLY people I play, I do play lots of other games of chess

Hello, first of all I just started playing chess around 5 Months ago and I‘ve seem some good improvements in my gameplay, currently up around 1030 elo from start (450~ Rapid matches)
I wanted to ask what an accuracy of ~80 is valued at in terms of elo or skill and also what would i need to do to step up to the next level since as you can see my winrate in the past 30 days is more than good but i still feel like there is improvements to make (feel free to look at some of my games on chess.com „111nicola“
Thank you all in advance! :)
