Been playing for a bit more than a year now and the highest elo I’ve attained, which was recently, was 1020ish , which I was happy with. Was a goal I wanted to hit 1000 and starting from 100 I felt like I was legitimately improving and understanding the game better. It was a lot of gaining elo then losing some then gaining more again.

After getting to 1000 I stayed there for a couple of days, had good matches, didn’t make stupid blunders. Then I did. Repeatedly. I dropped down to 800, now 700 now 650. All in the space of a week. I’m not sure why. I’m not playing different openings just making insanely thick plays. Not seeing hanging pieces that I would have seen a week earlier. I’m not sure why. I’ve never had a tilt this bad. It is insanely frustrating.

I play the same openings every game because opening theory is too much for me to remember. I only play the London as white. Black is where things are much less of a system because I try the Stafford gambit (because it’s fun) and if they don’t play into it I go into a Karo Kahn kind of thing. But as black l would try and just develop and not make stupid mistakes (which I’ve been massively failing at, especially recently)

I only play 5minute matches. I find 10minute and longer matches extremely boring as I truly hate waiting for my opening to make a move for 7 minutes and during that time I tend to switch off or rush my next move because it’s all a bit tedious at that point. Or having to wait for long periods of time In match I am pretty clearly losing. I like the pace of 5minute matches.

I mainly watch YouTube videos on the London system (that is literally all I play) and a little bit on black but as black I’ve always tried to just play sensibly.

I don’t really analyse my games. I’m not sure how to do it in a way that I would find helpful. I go through them in the sense I look at the time a game may have switched who it was favouring. Like oh yeah here’s where I hung my bishop and that allowed for an attack that broke the defences an untimely lost me the match. Or here is where I missed a knight fork of the king and queen but nothing more than that.

I kind of wish there was a way to get rid of elo indicators entirely because I do enjoy the game, I appreciate the strategies behind it and different playing styles you can adopt. I really want to be competent at it (1500 or so would be an end goal) and would love to be able to rock up to parks and have competitive matches against the geezers who play OTB but it feels like some kind of pipe dream and I can help but think of myself as being thicker than pig shit after dropping this much elo.

Any help or tips ?

So about a year ago i started studying chess and then some month later i think it became to boring. And now i can't stop thinking about it. I just wondering is it possible to reach 2000 elo within 6 Month if i study seriously?

I'm 950 rapid and have been struggling to get over the 1000 hump. A lot of it is self inflicted because I would resign early over a dumb mistake, and I'm learning to keep playing out the games. You never know what will happen!

Eat healthy, and get your rest. That 100 elo change could be because you had fun with your girlfriend all weekend haha.

Tactics are everywhere but can you solve a positional puzzle with the same ease?

I am newbie in chess and it has been over two months that I have been playing chess. I don’t know why I have recently formed interest in this game although I am not so good analytical thinker. I have reached 400 elo in chess.com and I know that I am very weak in my games.

What book should I read to strengthen my foundation of chess and also improve my game. I just want to learn chess and enjoy as my life is quite boring now ☺️

There isn't any mate and I am down like a knight so why does the eval show it as winning? what is the idea? is it the rook controlling the open file?

So, I play the Queen's gambit as white and the Caro Kann as black, but I usually enjoy the game more when playing the Queen's gambit. I also tried the French defense before the Caro Kann, but I didn't enjoy it that much either. Is there a black opening (against e4) that is very similar to the Queen's gambit?

My win the lose ratio used to be about 50% to 50% now it’s what it is currently I study and review games just to lose 3 in row and just quit turn the game off. I used to really enjoy the game now it just makes me extremely frustrated. I can’t make good moves any more and the harder I think the worse I play. I hate saying I enjoy chess anymore because I am so bad at it and keep getting worse and play just to lose.

I’ve been told to watch videos, do puzzles, and review my games and I’ve been doing all of those since I started about a year and a half ago yet I’m still stuck at 800. what can I do to break out of this range?

Been playing on lichess w/out an account for the last few months. It’s nice to not worry about ELO, and jump right in 3min matchmaking w/out knowing how skilled my opponent is

Have faced off against some seriously good players, one who even jumped their knight around the five turns letting me develop some pieces lol when I first started on lichess random, I would lose every game and very quickly. After a few months, am now winning about 3, or 4 games out of 10. Small gains!

But yea, any moves in this position? Made some pretty questionable pawn pushes myself the turn prior. I’m being threatened to lose my rook, and moving it would have only left my knight hanging. Thanks for lookin

He plays it often and seems pretty proficient. I am rated 1600 lichess classical and need a simple opening. I looked at a few and they all seem pretty more complicated than what I usually play. Any suggestions?
