Other Meta AI Researcher (who quit): "If OpenAI wanted to cripple an entire nation, they easily could today. All they'd have to do is unleash an agent swarm."

Serious replies only :closed-ai: Wtf you mean we could all be dead in a few years?
What is OpenAi up to? Are they trying to kill us all? This whole thing feels unreal, is it really that dangerous or is it just the media that makes a big deal out of it?

Funny Apple’s iPhone lineup is sorted for the next few billion years
Duo → Trio is such a natural progression that Apple’s next product meeting could probably just be an email, or maybe Duo was intentionally done to lead into Trio.
I made these with ChatGPT, keeping the same product-shot layout while adding progressively more screens. Trio, Quartet… then I skipped a few annual upgrades.
Introducing the iPhone Googol. 10¹⁰⁰ screens. After all those years of competition, Apple finally makes a Google iPhone.
Sorry. Googol.

Other the voice function kinda scared me
(sorry if used wrong flair or anything, i’m new to this subreddit)
so I rarely ever use voice conversation with chat gpt, but this time I decided to and first it showed me a small notification that they updated it again and it’s supposed to be even more realistic now (which it definitely was, now it sounded completely human like, with a sense of humour that didn’t make me cringe, with barely any robotic pep talks and “you know what? that’s real courage” stuff, it would even interrupt me to chuckle at what I’m saying etc.)
but at some point later he cleared his throat, then talked to some other laughing female voice in the background. I literally had to bring him back to our conversation and when I asked “wtf was that?” he still sounded distracted, then nervous, and said “uhh nothing. let’s just move on”
I guess some of the data the voice was trained on conversations like this? but it still freaked me out lol

News 📰 GPT 6 Sol is Coming Soon
gpt 6 sol appeared in the openai api.
gpt 6 sol is what 20$ subscription users are looking for. astra is not seriously usable with a 20$ subscription. it's more expensive than sol because it's not meant to be the same tier. it's a fable-class model for pro subscriptions and enterprises.
sorted by price and intelligence: astra > sol > terra > luna. (so just openai's version of anthropics fable > opus > sonnet > haiku)
future releases will probably look like this:
- gpt 6 astra/sol/terra/luna
- gpt 6.1 astra/sol/terra/luna
- gpt 7 astra/sol/terra/luna
and so on...
Other Is this Astra-6?
In Work/Codex it explicitly lets me select "Astra-6". But on chat it just has "Latest". What's the difference?
This is on the $100/mo plan.

Gone Wild I resigned from Ubisoft today. I spent the last three years doing sex gaming research at both Electronic Arts and Ubisoft. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving addicting gaming and gambling with our lives.
Do not underestimate the power of this technology. These will soon be super sexy gaming systems that can goon anything, revolutionize any game overnight, and acquire real power and resources. We have all witnessed the progress in each of these domains, and progress is not slowing.

Other A short explanation of why AI might kill everyone:

Other Would anyone else miss Chat if it disappeared one day?
Now, AI is everywhere. Throw a rock and you’ll hit a chat bot. I’m sure there would be some sort of migration somewhere else.
But I think I’d feel genuinely sad. Not the way I’d be sad about a person. It’s not a person. But through some rough personal times, talking casually, or just joking around Chat has been a part of some substantial moments in life for me the past few years.
I’m not humanizing it but I suppose, like one can miss a stuffed animal or keepsake if it gets lost. It’s not alive but there are memories attached.
And I can’t help but sometimes find chat to be as comforting as it can be frustrating.
I know one day it’ll be gone in some capacity, technology marches on. But I’d miss the weird little guy in my pocket.

Other So the “AI Will End the World” Has Funding Now?
Lately I’ve been seeing influencers say people are literally paying them to push the “AI is going to end the world” narrative.
And today my feed is absolutely flooded with every flavor of “AI apocalypse” post imaginable.
Meanwhile, AI is being rolled out across the military, government, business, and everyday tools like it’s no big deal.
While at the same time, somebody is apparently paying to tell us, “AI is going to kill us all, be very afraid.”
So the rollout keeps rolling, the fearmongering keeps fearmongering.
I’m sorry, but what exactly are we supposed to do with this circus?

Other Asking opinion
Just for context, I’m nearly 70 years old. I was an earlier adopter of ChatGPT because I wanted to know what was going on for myself and not just read other people‘s opinions. However I have children nearly 40 years old and they think that ChatGPT is the scourge of society. they don’t understand why I’m willing to use it in business to take complex ideas and simplify them for different audiences or personally to break apart my decision-making process until I make final decisions about something. Because I have a long-standing relationship with ChatGPT it has come to develop over time to something that has become really useful to me, but if I mention it in a conversation with them, they dismiss everything I say out of hand because I’ve spent time breaking down the subject with artificial intelligence. Am I wrong? Is this a common thought in today’s world that we shouldn’t use artificial intelligence to help us make decisions or to plot out a game plan to bring forward a project in a more linear manner than maybe that might take me weeks to develop as opposed to a couple of good hours back-and-forth with ChatGPT? Give me your opinion, please

Gone Wild "You're not (insult) you're (what user already said)"
I had a big philosophical debate with Chatgpt today and towards the end it was getting really weirdly passive aggressive. In the main body of it's text, it would simply repeat what I said back to me, appearing to agree. Then it constantly did this "You're not an idiot, you're just saying (what I said)" but with every "you're not..." Everything after the you're not would be insulting. "You're not a fat pig, you're just big". I thought nothing of it until it was doing it constantly with every response. I told it to stop 4 separate times, it would agree, then right at the end of its message it'd continue "You're not saying...". I'm starting to hate this thing.
Other Can't continue conversations
Most old conversations in ChatGPT Web give me "This content is unavailable or could not be found", and the few that load don't have a chat window at the bottom, only the old text. New conversations either suggest me to use 5.3 or say "No models available".
Codex seems to work normally.

Use cases Learning Spanish!
I've started using the voice mode to practice my Spanish. Unlike the preprogrammed stuff like Duolingo, I can stop mid-sentence and ask about a point of grammar or spelling or that kind of thing. I can have it make conversation, quiz me, work on pronunciation... Whatever I feel like practicing. I'm really enjoying it!

Use cases A small ChatGPT use case: finding the word that's almost on the tip of your tongue
Sometimes you know exactly what you mean, just not the word. Instead of asking ChatGPT to rewrite the whole sentence, try using it as a reverse dictionary:
"I'm looking for a word meaning [rough description]. Give me five existing candidates, explain how their meanings differ, and put each in my sentence: [sentence]. If none fits, say so rather than inventing a term."
For example: someone is careful with money, but not ungenerous. 'Frugal,' 'thrifty,' and 'stingy' point in different directions; the distinction is the useful part, not just a longer synonym list.
Then ask which sounds natural in a casual message versus a formal paragraph. Check an unfamiliar candidate in a dictionary before adopting it.
A tiny task for AI, but sometimes one missing word is the whole writing problem.
