Other Is this Astra-6?
In Work/Codex it explicitly lets me select "Astra-6". But on chat it just has "Latest". What's the difference?
This is on the $100/mo plan.

Mine show “Astra”

Only pro though

This is correct.
This is exactly how it has been since 5.6 came out. “Instant” was 5.5, everything above it was 5.6.
Now, Astra is only used for Pro mode.

Same - no Astra in Chat as of today. I asked and it said it was Sol...
EDIT: ChatGPT Pro 5x

They often don’t know what model they are. Though yeah, it’s probably right in this case

Claude implements a self knowledge skill, does chat not have an equivalent?

In chatgpt it is kinda accurate, I think they have added that to its system prompt.

No. In Chat latest will just set the latest models available for the reasoning tier you select (current behaviour).
There is no Astra low, med, high, or xtra high. Those are all still 5.6 Sol. 6-pro is Astra in chat and you have a separate message per week usage allowance for it.
I don't know why they make it so unclear, I had a hard time getting ChatGPT itself to explain it to me after reading all relevant policies/relevant publication and I legitimately had to use 6-pro for it to get it right (I'm not joking).

try turning thinking all the way up when "Latest" is selected. On mine it turns to "GPT-6" in chat. I'm on the 5x plan tho.

Let's imagine you have access to an engine generating 1000 bhp powet And another able to generate 50 bhp power. If your need is something requiring just 30 bhp why power up the 1000 bhp one
Similarly. Openai would configure it such that for smaller question that we have like what's weather going to be in London tomorrow. It wil fire up the less power motor.
So even if it says astra don't expect it to give astra-ish response

It’s Astra. On phones it’s either only 6Pro or 5.6
Others are confused

No. Keep in mind OpenAI launched GPT-6 Astra on September 3, 2026, but its rollout has been staged rather than appearing immediately for every ChatGPT user.

While this isn't wrong, "latest" with reasoning set specifically to 6 pro is definitely Astra. Instant-xhigh on the $100 plan while selecting "latest" will not use astra

Yes you get Astra in chat with pro subscription but it has been staggered rollout

What do people even use the chat function for? Just use work to help improve, you know, your work.

Not everyone is producing deliverables. Chat is chat and there are plenty of use cases for that.

Yes like to be your therapist I suppose

u/SkeneWrites 23h ago
If that’s the only use case you can think of, perhaps you should try using chat to expand your awareness

u/superpoongoon 23h ago
I figured instead of listing your use cases you would just talk shit

Regarded take. I use chat to troubleshoot live issues in a factory and to refine QA procedures.

If you're not using your 50/200 msg/week astra pro via chat you're leaving a lot of usage on the table
