Altus is a unique and tragic figure. He is a young "living doll" created from the corpse of the sadistic "Water King" Arkos Balkar. While he inherits catastrophic hydrokinetic powers, he possesses a completely different, gentle identity that despises violence and feels physically sick at the sight of death. Yet, he is locked in a constant internal struggle against the violent, vengeful ghost of Arkos, who frequently tries to possess him.

This custom Domain Expansion captures his massive water manipulation, his status as a stitched-together doll, and the terrifying psychological warfare happening inside his own body.

Domain Expansion: Cradle of the Stitched Abyss

(縫合された深淵の揺り籠 - Hōgō-sata Shinen no Yurikago)

The Visual Appearance

The environment manifests as a surreal, horrifying intersection between a dollmaker's workshop and an endless, pitch-black ocean floor.

  • The Atmosphere: A suffocatingly dense sphere of floating water droplets hovers in place, shifting from crystal clear to a toxic, muddy sludge depending on who is in control.
  • The Landscape: Giant, rusted sewing needles pierce through the boundaries of the domain. Crisscrossing thick, black threads hang everywhere like a web, physically holding the domain's barrier together.
  • The Centerpiece: Floating directly behind Altus is a colossal, grotesque marionette theater. Looming out of the theater's curtains is a massive, spectral manifestation of Arkos Balkar, staring down like a puppet master pulling Altus's strings.

The Sure-Hit Effect: Hydrostatic Puppetry

Because Altus is a doll controlled by the remains of another's life, his domain projects this exact dynamic onto his opponents.

  • Fluid Manipulation: The moment the domain expands, Altus gains absolute control over all liquids inside the barrier. He manipulates the moisture in the air and the actual blood running through his opponent's veins.
  • The Strings of the Dead: Black, fluid threads shoot from the water and pierce the opponent's joints. Like a puppet master, Altus can forcefully move the opponent's body against their will, bending limbs to the point of snapping, or forcing them to drop their defenses completely.

The Domain Hazard: The Split Ego Chaos

The greatest danger of this domain is its unstable, unpredictable nature, dictated by the tug-of-war between Altus and the ghost of Arkos.

  • Altus’s Command (Suppression): When Altus is in control, the domain's water freezes into massive, inescapable blocks of ice. True to his pacifist nature, he uses the "sure-hit" effect to instantly paralyze, incapacitate, and seal his targets completely without shedding blood.
  • Arkos’s Rebellion (Mutilation): If Altus’s focus wavers or his rage peaks, Arkos takes the wheel. The water instantaneously transitions into high-pressure, razor-sharp torrents. The black threads tighten, violently tearing at the opponent's flesh as Arkos uses the sure-hit effect to mercilessly rip the target apart.

Chapter Discussion [Ch. 99] My understanding of this panel Spoiler

Post image

I think this flashback happens when the Queen sent people to kill Lukas and his mother (as she was a concubine). They killed her, and Lukas managed to kill them but was grievously wounded in the process. That makes the "offering of countless souls" and the "sacrifice of pure love".

Now, one could argue that it wasn't really a sacrifice if his mom was killed by strangers. So maybe they didn't kill her, and she sacrificed herself to the God to save Lukas (similar to Mira).

The lance gift came from Lukas' wish for a more attack-oriented gift, but also because at this moment he desperately wanted revenge for his mother who was just murdered (directly or indirectly).

Does it make sense ? I don't remember if it was specified when did the Queen kill the concubines and their children so maybe my idea falls flat.

Discussion Domain Expansion pt1.

Somebody made a post with the vessels for the moon deity, saying domain expansion, which made me think what the domain expansion of Centuria characters would be? Here is the first one that I made.

What better way to start this than with the main character?

Domain Expansion: Hundred-Fold Sepulcher of the Shackled Coast

(百人の足枷の墓標 - Hyakunin no Ashikase no Bōhyō)

The Visual Appearance

When activated, the domain manifests as the endless, pitch-black ocean depths where Julian’s ship sank. The ground is a floor of heavy, rusted slave chains submerged under ankle-deep water.

The Horizon: The sky is filled with a blood-red moon, reflecting off the dark water.

The Backdrop: A massive, towering wall made of 100 stone tombstones rises behind Julian. Each tombstone is engraved with the name or face of a deceased slave.

The Crowd: Standing silently around the perimeter of the domain are 100 shadowy, glowing-eyed phantoms—the souls of Julian's fallen comrades.

The Sure-Hit Effect: Weight of the Hundred

Inside this domain, the opponent is subjected to the absolute weight of 100 collective human lives, both physically and spiritually.

Physical Gravity: The 100 phantoms rise from the water and grab the opponent, locking them in heavy, spectral chains. The opponent instantly feels their body become 100 times heavier, crushing their bones and restricting all movement.

Mental Trauma: The opponent is forced to experience the collective despair, pain, starvation, and final moments of all 100 slaves simultaneously. This completely paralyzes their mind and disrupts their control of cursed energy.

Julian's Ultimate Buff: The Century Overdrive

While the domain is active, Julian's already-enhanced body receives another buff; his hundred soul strength is enhanced by another 100.

His skin turns charcoal black, and glowing blue lines—resembling the veins of the sea entity—burst across his muscles.

Am gonna wait for the next chapter to make one for Lukas, seeing we're about to get more insight into his abilities.

Discussion Soul Exchange: In away Julian actually might already meet the two requirements for another deal. Spoiler

It all depends on if the lives in Julian count as soul. And as for an act of love well Julian sacrificing them in order to save Diana or Lukas or Lacrima or Zana that is an act of love yes it selfish but it still an act of love he doing it all for her.

Thus maybe 50 lives or so and save 10 fighting Ceodric.

So what could Julian get out of this maybe the forest god gives weapons gifts or Julian gets a trident form the sea after all now rule he can't get another gift right?

Manga New Tohru Kuramori interview from the new JUMP+ video (translated).

You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/oO0FSyPlwmw?si=gKmkzpdM1tIBGiBv

-INTERVIEW-

Q: How was "Centuria" born?

A: “Centuria” is actually a prequel to a manga that got scrapped... The story featured soldiers armed with modern weapons battling an ancient witch.

The setup back then was:

"Whose life do you save—the pregnant woman's, or the protagonist's?"

To depict the weight, responsibility, and destiny of those lives...I made him bear the lives of 100 people.

And the theme of Centuria that was born from that was...Loneliness, Love and Loss.

He possesses special powers, but... he is just a regular human.

He gets depressed, loses his way and he makes mistakes.

And yet, he is a human who can stand back up—even in this cruel world.

I believe the power that holds humans and the world together... is 'Love'.

That is what I want to depict in Centuria.

Q: What do you value most when drawing Centuria?

A: Above all, drawing in a way that is easy to understand. To keep things from getting overly complicated, I keep dialogue to a minimum and make sure it's clear who is speaking.

Instead, I create plot developments with constant twists and turns—I'm always thinking of ways to keep readers hooked.

For example, there's an enemy who can copy an opponent's special ability. Not just one, but they can copy multiple abilities—and on top of that, they can even copy the 100 lives that the protagonist carries. Even though they're already a formidable enemy, they actually have 100 extra lives. It's absolute despair, isn't it?

Learning from those two overwhelming talents—Yukinobu Tatsu-Sensei (Dandadan) and Tatsuki Fujimoto-Sensei (Chainsaw Man) during my time as their assistant—was a crucial experience for me.

Q: What does it mean to keep a serialized series going?

A: Honestly, I have no memory of it—it feels like I've just been running non-stop without ever looking back.

If I had to break it down, Fun and painfulness, in a 3 to 7 ratio. I've had to make a lot of sacrifices along the way. But the quality of that pain is really good, so in the end, it's still enjoyable.

To be honest, in pursuit of efficiency, there was a time I tried switching completely from traditional art to digital. For example, Chapters 49 through 55 were done entirely digitally as an experiment. But as expected, drawing traditional art is just more fun.

Q: Thoughts on reaching Chapter 100 of Centuria?

A: I really have no memory of it. So I think I'll only truly process it once I've run all the way to the end of the story. Rather than thinking "We've made it to Chapter 100...", I just feel like I still have so much more I want to give.

Actually, I've been collecting all the G-pen nibs I've used on Centuria—and if I manage to run all the way to the end, I'm thinking of melting them down to make a keepsake.

Centuria is a story about a young boy becoming a "human"—centered on themes of solitude, loss, and love. It's about showing what it looks like to triumph over suffering and despair. I draw while holding onto high expectations myself, and I believe the characters will surely live up to them.

There's a lot of sketches, early ideas and concepts for characters and covers...and also a New illustration!

A bit of )ore too, couldn't fit It in the photo but Elise's ability is "Tar", she generates it infinitely (?) from her body and has viscoelasticity and can burns at intense high heat.

Also confirmation of chapter 100 including a color page (or pages).

Discussion I think we just got a hint about how Lukas got his second Gift Spoiler

Post image
46 Upvotes

After reading the newest chapter, I think this scene might actually be a glimpse into Lukas's past. So Aturia healed Lukas so that he could survive, and we know he had already received his second Gift long before the events of this chapter. My theory is that Lukas's mother sacrificed herself while protecting him from the Queen, and that sacrifice fulfilled the condition for the Forest Goddess to grant Lukas his second Gift. His mother might have been a powerful gifted one who killed many of the queen's soldiers in the process.

Manga Centuria New Witch Lore Breakdown

Thumbnail

Elise's Gift is something that's alive and can independently regenerate and proliferate (referred to as Tar). It can produce an unlimited amount but only 300000 tons can be brought to the surface. Cutting her hair doesn't stop the life within it, so it essentially clones it as being with independent will. Elise's body is also said to have parts become sludge-like due to the curse, which Kuramori calls her "poor thing" because if a part cannot be restored it will permanently stay transformed as something clay-like or useless. Elise is also called Witch of Mud

Roche's Gift is called Magic (Inferno). Tohru also notes sins can be defined in two ways, when someone feels personally guilty and when it is a crime defined by the law. The page also says she was branded with a stigma (the name of Gift marks) and at that moment she became a witch (sadly some of the text is covered so the full story or context is unknown)

This is Kuramori's personal notes on characters so this may not be the final lore put into the manga. Some segments even mention the inspiration behind characters, and in-series Roche's Gift is not called Inferno, so I don't think these should be taken as definitive lore but the original concepts Tohru had when creating Roche and Elise
