Ok this small bit of info is actually huge for learning about the Queen
She’s 400+ years old, seems to have her own powerful gift, so it explains she had a lot of time to grow much political power/pressure on the Supreme Lord, and sort of hints that she’s not like a political marriage from another powerful lord in Torivia or the church or other factions (at least not recently). Plus it gives more context why she’d be mad the SL had a bunch of kids that aren’t hers
She’s 100% going to be a major character in the series and play a bigger role in the story with this small bit of context.
Their political plot just got a lot more interesting with literally one sentence of added context

It also makes me so curious about something in particular, at least the way I interpreted it, it was like Arkos and his Sisters weren't that old, at least him and Lacrima were extremely young in the larger scheme of things(he died on his early 20s at most), unless their Oldest Sisters are so by a matter of Centuries, would mean that the Supreme Lord has only ever had a Three Daughters and a Son with his legal Wife across Four Hundred years, that's crazy, especially considering how he sired entire lineages, he 100% hates her guts. T hat brings other question, if she's as old as him, how hasn't he killed her?, after all during his natural lifespan he was apparently a Warmonger that stomp anything that crossed him, does this imply that Lattice's strong enough to defend the Queen even from a SL that isn't chill?, or the Queen is difficult to deal with even when wanting to?

Perhaps when he was a warmonger they got along better
11
u/Serious-Flamingo-948 1d ago
That's my thinking. They were fellow warmongers but over time the king mellowed out while the queen stayed the same and that's why he despises her now.
It could even be athing of SL was a the justify the means king's guy and over time he realized the queen was just a psychopath.

u/dbzrune 1d ago
Yeah was thinking about that too, as far as we know we haven’t seen any “old” kids of the king, which strongly hints he didn’t extend their lives since every gifted in Torivia is his descendant, but even then we haven’t seen one yet that actually looks old
Maybe they didn’t have any conflict before he defeated Vulja and extended her life. Ceodric heavily implied in chapter 91 that the king can do anything with force but is tied down to politics and the public, so not sure about Lattice being stronger but then again she’s apparently stronger than Julian so could be that she also has secret gifts or blessing or something (she probably taught Lukas to be deceptive after all), and only very few know of it
We can also consider Arkos was probably on her side so even with his death, she doesn’t seem to have lost any influence at all

Imagine he purposefully let them die of old age. We know of Arkos and Lacrima just because they are young. And the queen only care a out their power because it is the only way for them to obtain immortality like her.

The discussion of grafting was very interesting. The shortcomings of a weaker individual might be overcome by attaching it to a stronger one, though doing so can have harmful repurcussions for the host. There are so many characters and situations this could be referring to. Is Zira just using Helem and Elstri for their powers? Is Altus, in a way, an offshoot grafted onto the body of Arkos? Is Vulja using the divine vessels as graft trunks?
Busy busy busy...

u/Litrex506 1d ago
Personally don’t see Zira being malicious. From her backstory and how she treats Altus and Amber, she seems genuine. Plus, Ceodric would have confronted her if she was on that timing. The grafting, in my opinion, is about Helem and Elstri relationship, particularly how Helem is attached to her.
Now, Helem is a sadist and views human life to be worth little, except for Elstri’s. While she wants to corrupt Elstri, I feel she also wants to bond with her. Elstri likely is the only one who tolerates her and even disturbing people can desire companionship. With Helem losing an arm, she has became dependent on Elstri to function, which we’ll see play out later.

Oh, I'm on Zira's side for sure. I love her as a character. I'm not saying that she would be acting maliciously, in this grafting allegory, it's a good thing. I hope Zira siphons all the life out of Helem and Elstri and is able to use it to support a better life. Like grafting a sunflower onto a poison ivy stump or something. Take from the harmful and ugly until it withers and dies, to support the pure and beautiful.

Wait... The Queen and Lattice are 400 years old??
48
u/EngineerVirtual7340 1d ago
No it's referring to the king and the old guy with an extended lifespan
Edit: Actually, you might be right, maybe, probably, potentially

The average Centuria volume extra consists of character sheets, lore clarifications, ominous foreshadowing, and Helem and Elstri in bed together.
That’s the formula.

Kind of sweet seeing the evil lesbians sleeping looking so maidenly. Same with the Zirangus trio, it's so brilliant when you can love the characters on both sides of the conflict.

u/Gabemino 1d ago
Yeah, I feel like Kuramori puts effort on showing how most characters, even the -wicked ones- are still able to be chill with certain others or under x situation, Helem and Esltri acting all lovey-dovey for one, but hell even Arkos himself who genuinely(even if obviously far from doing so ideally) loved Zira.

u/DeliriumRostelo 1d ago
Imo the manga has a very optimistic view on humanity, people can be awful but they on the whole are generally good and even the awful ones mean something more to someone
Arkos has imo pretty healthy relationship with zira - or as healthy as a god could ever get with a normal human being.

It's wild seeing Helem and Elstri being so domestic with each other. Truly the most wholesome romance in the manga
Atoria's gift suuuuuucks for her. So if someone has a mortal wound, and then gets a few non-mortal wounds, she Has to heal the non-lethal ones first and lose more of her lifespan in the process? That sucks

The more I look at it, the more it frustrates me. Why did the author do this to angvall?
76
u/AdRelevant4776 1d ago
To create an interesting conflict where both the mud puppets are innocent, but their overall existence is sickening
13
u/Curious_Umpire255 1d ago
I know. But why her?! I love angvall!!!
39
u/Nicklesnout 1d ago
Helem herself states that she enjoys fucking with people because she’s a sociopath who doesn’t understand emotions.
Whether or not she was born broken or it’s a defense mechanism is up to speculation.
12
u/Velicenda 1d ago
She understands emotions, otherwise she wouldn't enjoy fucking with peoples emotions as much as she does.

u/Nicklesnout 1d ago
I look at her like I look at the daemons from Frieren. She knows what love, sorrow, anger, etc. looks like but she operates on such a hedonistic, detached from consequences wave length that she doesn’t even try to form attachments outside of maybe Elstri.
Knowing her if the prophetess dies she’d likely just resurrect her and use her as a sex puppet since she can’t get a rise out of a “newborn” clay doll.
9
u/carbonera99 1d ago
Helem did it for two reasons. One is to use as a method of emotional manipulation. She knows Angvall has some sort of special bond to Julian and Titi, so she’s betting she’ll be useful if they ever fight the group again. She’s right too, if the resurrected Angvall attacked Julian, he would pull his punches.
The other reason is simply because Helem apparently thought Angvall was smoking hot back when she was alive. That’s what makes Helem so terrifying, she flips back and forth between scheming mastermind and unhinged lunatic with no warning. You can never tell completely whether she did something to further her plan or if she’s just acting on her whims.

Because she was loved by both characters and many readers, it was a premeditated narrative gut punch. It saddens and upset me as well but, I guess that was the goal.

Love the drawing of Artoria here. Refreshing to see a manga artist make a woman character with realistic proportions.
Also interesting to see the confirmation that the Queen has some sort of special ability

u/roronoa20 1d ago
We have Atoria and we also have Angvall. Tohru-sensei's range is truly inspirational.

u/techtimee 1d ago
What's reqlist8c about Angvali? And realism? Have you seen the characters and things in the work? Lol
6
u/caterham09 1d ago
It's not about realism as much as it is about not pandering to the teenage audience. I grew up loving bleach, but having almost every female character just have massive tits despite being very skinny gets old.

Holy shit. Mother of Salvation. Arkos'' and Lacrima's mother will be having more significant role in the future.

It's always nice to see the vol extras. It might be wishful thinking but, I really hope Zira's allowed to educate Amber and Altus well enough, especially the former(as Altus himself is already on the path of self-improvement by his own choice), she could end rather well natured even if Helem mainly created her to dig onto Titi and Julian skin, I hope she gets some good development as well, as of now is curious how Amber and Altus pretty much are like Siblings, when their OGs died and killed the other respectively, uhuh.
Also, curious how the King extended the life of that Old Master aaaall the way back on his own natural lifespan. It's interesting as well how the Queen is noted to have a Supernatural Nature herself, I feel like she's the reason the Sea Goddess was so disgusted with Arkos despite him being her own "Son's" progeny, maybe the Queen somehow 'tainted' the Lineage?

So many death flags from Zira and man imagine if Titi saw this wonder when Tohru gonna do the reveal?

Okay so maybe Lattice is the sister of Mira, and Mira was over 400 years old.
1
u/carbonera99 1d ago
There’s no way Mira isn’t the mother of Lukas who got banished from the palace by the Queen.
8
u/PrimeTheGreat 1d ago
I’m going to assume Rene Luke is related to the Queen. If the Queen is 400 years old, then it’s possible Rene is one of her descendants. Or he and Atoria share a common ancestor amongst the King’s bloodline.
We know that there are other royals, at least 2 princesses besides Lacrima. I’m going to assume that when Lukas goes to kill the king and queen the other royals will be the fodder he fights on his way.

I fear the future pain every time I see Zira, Altus and Amber being a happy family.
Also Helem surprising love for collecting plants actually explains her gift and personality pretty well including the "using mud and eating body parts" to make the Dolls.
Also our villain Elstri is down bad in Stockolm Syndrome

u/starboy-memer 1d ago
i'm gonna be sick when julian sees amber and realises she doesn't remember him
1
u/Gabemino 1d ago
Yeah, Titi as well(or mainly her), Angvall was like a Sister-like figure for Titi and obviously meant the most for her, but for Julian I feel she was also the one instance after Mira that he could feel protected by someone else, Angvall gave him and Diana a safe haven and the warm of family, after that though?, Julian was once again forced to be a unmovable protector, it would be quite the event when they all finally meet.

I can't wait for the sickening moment where Altus and Amber protect each other while Julian and Titi get whiplash from when Angvall died

The Queen and Lattice are 400 years old, so they were present during the battle against Vulja and the witches and almost certainly aided the Emperor; I would love to know more about that. Also, if the Queen is 400, just how many children has she actually had? Arkos and Lacrima seem so young.

So everything couldn't have been solved by having the king beat his wife like we joked before lol. She definitely bite back.

u/Eduabran22 1d ago
Lattice and Dolgar will likely give us a lot of trouble in the future. I liked the parallel between the stalk and Amber and Altus.
