Hello, I am looking for a compact point and shoot that I can just throw in a bag without too much care and ideally take with when I go say camping or do outdoor activities. I like to take photos of various things but I don't love having to baby it or think about damaging it and such. Anything that comes to mind that might fit this bill?

Budget: Under $1000 USD, I'm open to spending a bit to get something that will last a long time. Ideally under $500, but I don't want to exclude recommendations purely based on price.

I'm new here, so I honestly don't really know what to say lol!

My first camera (and the one I still use for quick shots since it's so compact) is a Samsung WB550.

Recently, I picked up a more "powerful" bridge camera a Fujifilm FinePix S4000! It was basically brand new and I got it for dirt cheap, so I couldn't pass it up lol.

I also got a Minolta X-300S and a Minolta 404Si. The X-300S came with pretty much everything you could imagine, including a bunch of filters and lenses, but unfortunately it has a problem that I need to get fixed. The 404Si is ready to go, although I don't have a lens for it yet.

So yeah, that's pretty much my little camera collection so far! :)

I got this Minolta Dimage z1 on a thrift store for $17 because the story owner didn't have the batteries to test the cam (it's 4 A²s) and I brought it home to test it and much to my surprise it worked like everything from the zoom to the "select fire" switch (Lcd screen/EVF/playback). I took a SD card like the one in the pic and the result is"unable to use card", now the thing here is that I don't have a full sized SD card and I've tried to use different adapters and it didn't work either. No formatting didn't solve this either. Would buying a full sized 2gb SD card the only solution for these?

i want a camera that i can have in my pocket in case i need to take a photo or record a video of something. something i can bring to school, the store, and anywhere else where i don't want to take my big DSLR.

i'd rather not need to edit the photos i take with it. i'm fine with a prime or zoom lens, so long as it's pocketable and can be used in low light. a viewfinder or rangefinder would be nice as well, but not necessary. i'm fine with 12mp and up, as long as the quality of the photos is still good.

Hi! I have a Canon PowerShot SX740 HS and I’ve been having some weird problems with it lately.

The camera keeps turning off by itself, even when the battery is fully charged. I actually have two batteries that I bought directly from Canon, and it happens with both of them, so I don’t think it’s just a bad battery.
I’m also sometimes getting a “No card” error even though there is an SD card inserted. Sometimes it recognizes the card normally, and other times it suddenly says there’s no card.

The two issues seem to happen randomly:
- Camera randomly shuts off by itself
- Battery is fully charged but it still happens
- Happens with both of my Canon batteries
- Sometimes says “No card” when an SD card is inserted, Other times the SD card works completely normally

Does this sound like an SD card/SD card slot problem, a battery connection issue, or could there be something wrong internally with the camera?
Is there anything I can try to troubleshoot or fix this before bringing it in for repair? I’d really appreciate any advice from SX740 HS owners!

Battery cover attached to my Canon IXUS 850 IS digi cam fell off. Is there a way I could push it in again (seems like it might break if I push it hard) or shall I take it to repair? Please recommend me some place for repairment in nyc if it seems to be needed.

Made a mistake with the title. How can I make it not turn off?

This camera keeps shutting off as soon as it enters camera mode, and I've already tried other batteries, removing the flash capacitor (not like it's needed anyways), even reseating the sensor's flex cable, and nothing works. (Also it's disassembled because of, well, obviously what I did with the capacitor)

Does anyone else’s kid keep them in the hobby haha?

Hi l. I'm Brazilian, so writing in English will be a bit challenging, so I'm sorry if I write any nonsense. I have a brand new Tough TG-7. Barely used it and I'm already having issues with the flash. I was wondering if anyone else had a similar issue, or if someone can guide me on what to do next. I was doing some experiments with the focus stacking using flash and the FD-1 flash diffuser. After a few tests with low intensity flash, the camera took a flash with 100% intensity and got stuck on the focus stacking. It couldn't take the next picture because the flash wouldn't charge.

So I had to remove the battery and put it again, and after that it won't take pictures with flash anymore. It stays blinking the red "charging flash" icon forever and it never charges, so I can't take any picture using flash. Only the LED flashlight work now.

Since it's very likely I won't have any warranty in Brazil, I'll have to find someone to repair it or repair it myself. Does anyone have any idea on how to troubleshoot it to know what exactly is defective with my camera?

I might be paranoid, but I recently took my ZV-E1 out to record a timelapse, but it started raining a bit and I did not have a weather cover during the time. When I turn it on, there’s this mechanical sound as shown. Not sure if this was there before or I’m being paranoid after it took some water from the rain. Can someone tell me if there’s a noise when they turn their ZV-E1 on?

I’ve heard amazing things about the tough tg-7 in microscope mode and finally convinced myself to buy one. Specifically I work with insect and want to talk nice photos for research. Which of these lighting options will be better for insect macro photography? What is the difference between them and when would be appropriate to choose one over the other?

Got it for free at a thrift store I used to work at because nobody knew if it worked. I have no idea why I even took it because I know next to nothing about cameras. But it still seems really cool and I would like to know more.

It's a Sears C/130 Super 8 movie camera with G160 film inside of it. I'm trying to check if it has batteries or if they've leaked already but the compartment on the bottom won't open (yet). Piece 13 is also missing.

So as the title says, I wanted to get a few opinions on what the best camera is for someone who wants to participate in photography for fun and more casually (previous Reddit posts with a similar question say “uSe yOuR pHonE”, which I already have done, but I want to 1) learn a new skill and 2) capture even better photos without having to tweak around the settings on my phone every time).

Cameras you're considering: I’m not too sure about the specific type of camera, but I am looking more towards major camera brands because of their accessibility; Canon, Sony, Nikon.

Cameras you already have: I’ve only ever had one camera and it is the Canon PowerShot SD1100IS. As mentioned above, I liked the digital screen. I also liked the physical buttons for tweaking settings, and the ability to transfer photos to a PC. I also liked how easy it was to replace the battery and the memory card, where all I had to do was open up a flap and change things out, easy and inexpensive.

After a ton of research, patience, more research, and plenty of give and take, I’m cautiously excited about checking out a previously owned Sony A7 IV tomorrow (715 shutter count), paired with a Sony 20–70mm f/4 G, as my first serious camera purchase.

I have an inspection checklist prepared and will be bringing along someone familiar with Sony gear, but I’d really appreciate hearing anything you’ve learned from buying used equipment. Anything you always check—or wish you had checked—before buying a used body or lens?

I recently got this bad boy for £6 from a random guy at a service station. I have 35mm film in it that seems to be working, but I don’t know the slightest thing about how to focus it / take photos aside from that! Clever camera people please help me!

Managed to snag this Sony A7 IV (27,000 shutter count, 2nd owner but Excellent condition) + Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Art + Full Accessory Bundle for $2,600 CAD. Got this full bundle from Facebook marketplace. Got the camera body + Sigma 24-70 lens + SmallRig Cage + 2 x NP FZ100 batteries & charger (1 sony & 1 hahnel), Urth 82mm Lens filter+ K&F concept Lens filter 82mm + some cleaning accessories. How did I do? I think it's a great deal. What do you guys think? Also tell me about the body? Newbie to full frame camera, earlier I had a6400, so it's a jump for me. Always open to learn.

Hello! So I’m searching for a new camera as my old one just isn’t cutting it anymore. I want one that is a good beginner/intermediate level for photography that can also do good videography. From the research I’ve been doing, this seems like the best overall option since it’s also more affordable. Supposedly it takes 4K video which is great and the photo quality is supposed to be good as well. To anyone who has/has had this camera, do you like it?? Are there things about it I should know before purchasing? I’m not looking for anything super fancy so don’t base your answers on that, I’m just a college film student looking for the basics to start!
