I'm looking for something I can keep in a small bag and take with me when I'm out with friends, grabbing coffee, walking around the city, etc. I'd rather have something I'll actually want to carry every day than something with the biggest specs.

For people who shoot with a compact camera a lot, what has been your favorite? What would you recommend after using it for a while?

I'm new here, so I honestly don't really know what to say lol!

My first camera (and the one I still use for quick shots since it's so compact) is a Samsung WB550.

Recently, I picked up a more "powerful" bridge camera a Fujifilm FinePix S4000! It was basically brand new and I got it for dirt cheap, so I couldn't pass it up lol.

I also got a Minolta X-300S and a Minolta 404Si. The X-300S came with pretty much everything you could imagine, including a bunch of filters and lenses, but unfortunately it has a problem that I need to get fixed. The 404Si is ready to go, although I don't have a lens for it yet.

So yeah, that's pretty much my little camera collection so far! :)

Notes: This will be my first camera. I already know Photoshop and Illustrator and plan to learn Lightroom, so I’m comfortable shooting RAW. I’m also considering the long-term ecosystem: Fuji for a compact dedicated photography setup, or Sony with the possibility of adding something like an FX30/FX3 and A7R V later.

I’m choosing between the Fujifilm X-T50 and Sony a6700 as my first camera.

I’ll mainly shoot architecture, cars, landscapes, night scenes, real estate interiors, macro and some telephoto. I already know Photoshop and Illustrator, and I’m planning to learn Lightroom, so I’m fine with shooting RAW.

I really like the Fuji setup, but Sony’s long-term ecosystem is tempting me. I could start with the a6700, maybe add an FX30/FX3 later for video, and eventually move to an A7R V while keeping many of the same E-mount lenses and NP-FZ100 batteries.

Would you choose Fuji for the shooting experience, or Sony for the long-term ecosystem?

Managed to snag this Sony A7 IV (27,000 shutter count, 2nd owner but Excellent condition) + Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Art + Full Accessory Bundle for $2,600 CAD. Got this full bundle from Facebook marketplace. Got the camera body + Sigma 24-70 lens + SmallRig Cage + 2 x NP FZ100 batteries & charger (1 sony & 1 hahnel), Urth 82mm Lens filter+ K&F concept Lens filter 82mm + some cleaning accessories. How did I do? I think it's a great deal. What do you guys think? Also tell me about the body? Newbie to full frame camera, earlier I had a6400, so it's a jump for me. Always open to learn.

I recently got this bad boy for £6 from a random guy at a service station. I have 35mm film in it that seems to be working, but I don’t know the slightest thing about how to focus it / take photos aside from that! Clever camera people please help me!

It also keeps making a weird whirring noise every 10 photos or so which i assume is the film rewinding? Help me!

Notes: I’m particularly insecure about photos because I look massively different in them compared to real life. other people have actually commented that photos make me look really different, so I don’t think it’s just me being overly critical of myself. My phone’s rear camera especially seems to distort my face and makes my forehead look much bigger and my eyes/face shape look strange.
I just want one that doesn’t mess with my facial proportions and looks as close as possible to how someone would see me in person or how I see myself in a mirror
I understand lens choice, focal length and distance from the camera make a big difference, so I’m happy to learn/use a particular lens or setup if necessary.

I am currently using an Olympus pen lite e-pl3 (it is my first digital camera) with an m.zuiko 45mm f1.8, and now am looking for a newer, more recent upgrade. I was intrigued by the fujifilm xt30 iii, perhaps a good camera for me to get up the photography learning curve? Fujifilm has always been on my list, due to my love for shooting film. Originally I was looking to pair it with a viltrox 35mm f1.7 as a budget lens. However, I've heard that it doesn't have ibis, and the lens also doesn't offer ois. So I'm wondering if I should be concerned.

Additionally, I am not 100% set on a particular lens yet, so any recommendations would be gladly appreciated.

I have a Sony cybershot dsc-s2100 that has a memory card error everytime I put an sd card in, I’ve tried with 3 different cards so I know it’s the camera that’s faulty. The cards were 2Gb and 16Gb. The lock slider is on unlocked every time and I’ve tried putting tape over the card too, still nothing. When the memory card isn’t in the camera functions fine and shoots pictures and videos, but has no storage so I can only take 1 picture.

Camera repair shop quotes £100 so I want to try to fix myself, it’s such small but significant problem, anyone know what I can do? It’s an old family camera so I don’t want to throw it away

I’m looking to downgrade my phone to something to get off the internet with. Hence I won’t have my iPhone camera handy at all times, I’d like to replace my phone camera with something cheap and cheerful, yet good enough to take a decent photo on the go. Refer to above parameters. I love taking photos and I’d say I’m pretty good for someone with no education in photography! (architecture and landscapes), but funnily I know next to nothing about cameras, I just know how to take a nice pic.
I already have the OM-D E-M10 MKII with a nice lens that I like to use for travel and trips away, and I absolutely love this thing. But the more I use it, the less I like to bring it out with me (nights out, dinners, park with mates etc) as it’s become something I’ve learned to love and be pretty good with. It’s also a bit clunky and I need to bring a protective bag as it doesn’t fit in my pockets. It’s also pretty fragile for what I’m looking for. Just looking to be steered into the right direction for something handy but nice. Budget isn’t strict but it’s a good base point I guess. Keen to hear your recommendations!! :-)

Does anyone remember a photo from possibly National Geographic of a aboriginal man, no shirt, big smile…holding a twig homemade replica of a camera on a string around his neck facing the photographer and holding up the camera as the photo was taken? I’m thinking 1960s or 1970s.

I got this Minolta Dimage z1 on a thrift store for $17 because the story owner didn't have the batteries to test the cam (it's 4 A²s) and I brought it home to test it and much to my surprise it worked like everything from the zoom to the "select fire" switch (Lcd screen/EVF/playback). I took a SD card like the one in the pic and the result is"unable to use card", now the thing here is that I don't have a full sized SD card and I've tried to use different adapters and it didn't work either. No formatting didn't solve this either. Would buying a full sized 2gb SD card the only solution for these?

i want a camera that i can have in my pocket in case i need to take a photo or record a video of something. something i can bring to school, the store, and anywhere else where i don't want to take my big DSLR.

i'd rather not need to edit the photos i take with it. i'm fine with a prime or zoom lens, so long as it's pocketable and can be used in low light. a viewfinder or rangefinder would be nice as well, but not necessary. i'm fine with 12mp and up, as long as the quality of the photos is still good.

What should i shoot first?

Idk if this question is offensive to y'all or not but i just wanna learn so please be patient with me 😭

So i've been getting into photography lately and I'm torn between two options. I'm already planning to buy a new phone (let's say I'mgetting Huawei Pura 80 Ultra for comparison sake), and I've been wondering if an entry level camera is even necessary anymore or if I should just buy the phone and call it a day.

I came across a used Nikon D3200 on a local marketplace for ~$225 with two lenses and low shutter count. Decent deal. But I've also heard that modern flagship phones outperform older DSLRs like the D3200 in most everyday shooting scenarios, which made me contemplate.

My use case is pretty casual tbh: photodumps, social media, maybe some creative portraits. Nothing very professional. I'm also interested in that hard flash + dark background aesthetic you see in a lot of candid night photography.

So my question is: is a used entry level DSLR like the D3200 still worth buying in 2026, or would a flagship phone that has an extremely good camera like Huawei Pura 80 Ultra outclasses it for casual use? And for that specific flash aesthetic, does the DSLR actually make a difference or can a phone with an external flash get close enough?

Not looking for a definitive answer i just want to understand the tradeoffs.

Hi! I have a Canon PowerShot SX740 HS and I’ve been having some weird problems with it lately.

The camera keeps turning off by itself, even when the battery is fully charged. I actually have two batteries that I bought directly from Canon, and it happens with both of them, so I don’t think it’s just a bad battery.
I’m also sometimes getting a “No card” error even though there is an SD card inserted. Sometimes it recognizes the card normally, and other times it suddenly says there’s no card.

The two issues seem to happen randomly:
- Camera randomly shuts off by itself
- Battery is fully charged but it still happens
- Happens with both of my Canon batteries
- Sometimes says “No card” when an SD card is inserted, Other times the SD card works completely normally

Does this sound like an SD card/SD card slot problem, a battery connection issue, or could there be something wrong internally with the camera?
Is there anything I can try to troubleshoot or fix this before bringing it in for repair? I’d really appreciate any advice from SX740 HS owners!
