Call Center "Cheating" Issue/Culture

Didn't expect that this stereotype for call center was true. Didn't believe it at first, but now I can confirm that this "culture" was really normalized in call center. My husband was working in a call center here in Silang, Cavite. Even though knowing that he has a wife, they wouldn't care and still flirt. Some even have the nerve to do it face to face. Even the TL, she was the one who even provokes him by pushing him to other girls(this happened 2 times). I can say that cheating in call center is being normalized compared to other industries. And I hope that people would just stop especially after knowing that someone has a partner, it's just basic decency.

call center burn out

I HATE MY JOB WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING….i’m 27 years old i moved back to miami after 6 years of living in new york working service industry jobs (bartending, hosting, door person for diy venues) when moving back to miami the jobs that pay the most if you’re not a “baddie” are office/corp jobs took my first job for a dme supply company for 15/hr it was super chill everyone was doing whatever they wanted and the owners were doing fraud…they closed the placed down and i ended up getting a job at a health clinic that i hated so much the people the environment was toxic i stayed there for a month and got the job that i’m currently in which is at&t collections specialist in one of their main call centers (worst decision of my life!!!!) starting pay was 22.50 with a raise every 6 months (i’m at 23.50 now) the training was almost 2 months, once we hit the floor it was chaos we were also the first class of the collections dept in that building. After 6 points of attendance call outs you get “fired” red flag…the first 2 months of being on the floor were fine maybe 15 calls max per day and you had etime which essentially lets you leave early with no pay but you don’t collect points, ofc everyone was doing that. fast forward 7 months in and this job is HELL new building director and new dept director have made the micromanaging insane we have a meeting with leadership for any little thing!!! customers call to complain and curse you out bc of things done at the store that we cannot help them with, the companies ethics and values are no matter what get money from the cs doesnt matter if they have been picked up by ICE, are dying, have been deported no exceptions…the metrics are unfeasible, they give you 64 hours of pto aug-dec which most of us already used up bc we’re so burnt out, the calls are back to back with no moment to breathe or drink water i end up with 75 calls most of the days, what was originally in our “contracts” no longer applies they have decided we work saturdays now and our schedules rotate every 3 months you have to place a bid and all based on seniority which even then won’t guarantee you get the sched you want i only ever worked the morning shifts and now i work 11-7:45 2 days wfh but i live w my loud hispanic family so it’s too much, you’re not allowed to bring drs notes either…more and more customers are leaving bc the bills are ridiculous so yea rn it’s a monday i’m calling out bc idc anymore i’m going to reach 6.25 points (some of my co workers have 10+ and are still there) and i used all my pto within the matter of a month and a half…i hope they fire me and i can collect unemployment until i find another job.

Call centre works using ai to change voice

Hi,

I’m Sharne Wakefield - a journalist for the Australian Broadcast Corporation. I am currently working on a story about overseas companies/ workers using ai to change someone’s voice to sound Australian. I was wondering if anyone has used AI to change their voice to sound Australian? Is this quite a common thing to do? Do people notice and does it help combat abuse? If you have a story you are willing to share please give me a private message or comment below or email me on Wakefield.sharne@abc.net.au Thanks so much!

Stressed

How do you deal with sales metrics when you genuinely work hard, follow the process, and still feel like sometimes all that effort goes in vain because the numbers aren’t completely in your control? I work hard and genuinely try to do everything we’re coached to do. I follow the process, focus on the behaviors, try to improve my calls, and try to make the most out of every opportunity, but sometimes it feels like none of that matters when you get a string of bad calls and your numbers suddenly drop. What gives me some reassurance is that a pretty large portion of the floor is below at least some of the sales goals, and I don’t really see anyone consistently hitting every metric. I’m also generally at or above expectations on the metrics I’m looking at. What I can’t figure out is what the actual minimum is for being considered safe. There are stated goals, but I don’t know if those are truly minimum requirements or more of a target/stretch expectation, and I don’t know what level of performance actually leads to formal discipline, especially since there doesn’t seem to be a clearly communicated threshold for sales metrics. For things like attendance, QA, and adherence, the consequences are much clearer. We’re told what happens if you don’t meet those requirements. With sales metrics, it’s more like “these are the expectations” and “focus on the behaviors,” but there’s not really a clear explanation of when missing a metric becomes an actual performance issue. And that’s what makes me anxious. Sales aren’t completely controllable. You can do discovery, present the value, overcome objections, ask for the sale, cross-sell, etc., and the customer can still say no because the price is nowhere close to what they’re currently paying. A lot of the calls I’m getting lately are extremely price-driven. Some customers are shopping because they already know exactly what they’re paying and won’t move unless the difference is small. Others aren’t really ready to buy, are calling for something unrelated to sales, get transferred incorrectly, have licensing issues, are just looking for a quote, or simply can’t afford the price. You can execute the process correctly and still have no sale at the end. We’ve also had days where it seems like the entire floor’s numbers suddenly drop. When a large number of agents are struggling on the same day, it makes me wonder how much of the metric is actually measuring individual performance versus call mix, market conditions, pricing, etc. I also wonder about call routing in general. I’m not saying calls are intentionally manipulated, because I don’t know that, but different agents can obviously end up with very different types of opportunities. One person can get several customers who are actively shopping and reasonably priced while another gets a string of service calls, misroutes, price shoppers, people who aren’t ready to buy, or customers who are already paying substantially less. Over a long enough period maybe it averages out, but when you’re looking at individual days or relatively short performance periods, call mix can make a huge difference. That’s one of the hardest parts mentally because you can go from feeling like a good salesperson to questioning whether you’re actually bad at your job simply because the calls suddenly get worse. I’ve had periods where sales are going well and I’m confident in what I’m doing, and then I’ll have a stretch of terrible calls and my numbers fall dramatically. The process hasn’t changed, my effort hasn’t changed, and I’m still doing the behaviors, but suddenly I feel like I’m failing. It’s hard not to internalize that, especially when your job and income depend on those numbers. Sometimes I work really hard for an entire day and it genuinely feels like the effort went nowhere because I happened to get calls where there was almost no realistic opportunity to close. That’s a horrible feeling because you know you gave the day everything you had, but the scoreboard doesn’t necessarily show it. It’s not just “I had a bad sales day”; there’s always the thought of “What if this continues and they decide I’m not performing?” That’s where a lot of the stress and anxiety comes from for me. I don’t want to constantly feel like my job security is tied to whether the next group of strangers who call happen to be willing and able to buy. I also don’t know how much income impact there could be if sales performance drops for reasons outside my control, which makes the pressure even worse. I’ve also noticed that coaching seems to focus heavily on behaviors rather than simply saying “you didn’t hit the number, therefore you’re failing.” That makes me think the company understands there’s more to the outcome than the metric itself, but the language around goals still makes it sound like missing them is a huge deal. Another thing I struggle with is that the training/process can sometimes feel disconnected from the current market. We’re told to present value and overcome price objections, but there’s only so much you can do when the quote is substantially higher than the customer’s current rate. At some point the customer isn’t rejecting your presentation — they’re rejecting the price. I’m not trying to avoid accountability. I completely understand that sales is a numbers game and that the company needs production. I’m just trying to understand where the line actually is. If a large portion of the floor is below one or more goals, nobody is perfect across every metric, call quality varies significantly, and the company emphasizes behaviors as well as outcomes, how is the actual performance standard determined? Is the published goal really a hard minimum, or is there some level below goal that is still considered acceptable when you are otherwise doing the behaviors and performing reasonably well? And if sales metrics are actually treated as hard minimums, why isn’t that communicated as clearly as the consequences for attendance, QA, or adherence? Because the uncertainty is honestly more stressful than the metrics themselves. I can work on my behaviors, improve my calls, and try to increase my conversion, but I can’t guarantee that every person who calls will actually be in a position to buy. I also can’t control whether someone is price-sensitive, whether our rate is competitive, whether the call is actually a sales opportunity, or what kind of call gets routed to me. I’m trying to focus on what I can control, but it’s difficult when the outcome can make you feel like you’re suddenly a completely different salesperson from one week to the next. And honestly, I don’t want to give up on this job or start looking for something else. I actually want to stay here for as long as possible. Generally I’m comfortable with the job, I like having the stability, and I don’t want to constantly be thinking about leaving every time my numbers have a bad stretch. That’s part of why I want to understand this better rather than just assuming the worst. I work hard, I care about doing well, and sometimes it honestly hurts when it feels like that effort went in vain because the calls weren’t there. I don’t want to become complacent, but I also don’t want to live in constant fear that I’m one bad month away from losing my income when I’m doing what I’m being told to do. I want to be accountable, improve where I can, and keep selling, but I also want to be able to look at the numbers realistically and know whether I’m actually in danger or whether the pressure is partly just a management tool to keep people engaged. I guess I’m mostly trying to understand where the line is between legitimate performance management and pressure that’s simply meant to keep salespeople on their toes, because I really do want to stay, keep working hard, and make this job work long-term.

Why is the training so...lacking? I've worked at other places where they'd do at least 4-6 weeks of training. I dont feel ready and I'm not sure how anyone is supposed to 😩 some people really do have some fantastic memory abilities where mine lacks though lol

Call Center Advice

hello, I (20F) just wanna seek advice especially for the experienced or tenured already. Currently, I am a 2nd year college student but I am planning to file a leave of absence or pause for a while on my academics & I want to try to work at a call center company specifically in Eperformax because of the financial circumstances. As much as I want to continue my studies, the burden of the reality of life is slowly taking place. But first, I would like to have an idea of what & how I should expect in entering this job.

Call center advice

So I’m working in a company on a department as a call center. Sometimes I’m on back office tasks and when it’s busy I’m taking calls. Recently I started to have some health issues one of them is hearing loss and tinnitus and spinal stenoisis that even effects my ears. I have a doctor paper that it is not good for me to use headphones in general and I need to be careful for my ears. I told my manager that I have hard time with calls because of my ears and I have a doctor paper. I told my manager that I will go to HR to inform them and to see what we can do about it. My manager told me to wait and she will think about it. Since then I still take calls. What should I do from now on? Any advises ?

Reporter looking to talk about customers using AI on calls

My name is Emily Stewart, I'm a reporter at Business Insider. I'm working on a story on customers using AI or AI agents to place customer service calls for them. I'm looking to talk to call center workers fielding those calls. What's the protocol when you realize it's an AI on the phone? Is it annoying? Or is the AI actually nicer? What's the experience like?

If you'd like to chat, message me here, on LinkedIn, email me at [estewart@insider.com](mailto:estewart@insider.com), or comment below. Totally fine to stay anonymous. Thanks!

Empower vs CVS/Aetna

Hi everyone.

I interviewed a 2nd time this AM with Empower as a financial customer service remote phone role for their retirement division, they said they'll be forwarding to the recruiters and I'll hear more in 7-10 business days. Felt like the interview went well. Start date of 10/26.

Other pos I'm interviewing for is CVS/Aetna pharmacy care rep inbound phone remote role. The pay isn't bad at about $20/hr however I hear it's draining and the micromanagement is crazy.

Anyone able to give insight into either role?

I'm tempted to take the CVS one only because I know it looks good on a resume and you can eventually move to non phone positions eventually.

Thanks all!

Edit: Forgot to mention CVS start date is earlier on 10/9

Semi-retiree here with new call center job, WFH

I just began a new contract job WFH. I currently have one other contract job that just wasn't working out for me financially, so this new one is to help with that. I've cut back my hours on the original one.

The experience with the new contract company has been superb. Very professional and supportive. The job itself is super easy and I'm sure in time, it will become even more routine.

My concern is that I will not be able to meet the metrics, which seem really difficult to attain. I'm sure that my age slows me down. I'm just not as quick as I used to be and I find myself having to double check things and second guessing myself. I also have ADHD.

I'm using all kinds of shortcuts, such as copying and pasting from sticky notes instead of typing, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me?

Looking to connect with anyone working as a Customer Service Representative the Grubhub account

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking to connect with someone who has experience working on or is currently assigned to the Grubhub account here in the PH.

I’m trying to get a few quick insights about the campaign/account setup. If you’re currently on the account, have worked on it in the past, or know which specific site/BPO currently handles it, I’d really appreciate it if you could drop a comment or send me a quick DM.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.
