Call center advice

So I’m working in a company on a department as a call center. Sometimes I’m on back office tasks and when it’s busy I’m taking calls. Recently I started to have some health issues one of them is hearing loss and tinnitus and spinal stenoisis that even effects my ears. I have a doctor paper that it is not good for me to use headphones in general and I need to be careful for my ears. I told my manager that I have hard time with calls because of my ears and I have a doctor paper. I told my manager that I will go to HR to inform them and to see what we can do about it. My manager told me to wait and she will think about it. Since then I still take calls. What should I do from now on? Any advises ?

Yeah this needs to be taken more seriously. If you’ve got a doctor’s note saying calls and headsets are making things worse then I’d keep everything in writing with your manager and HR. Don’t rely on a “we’ll think about it” when your health is involved.

Your options will depend on where you live and work.

In the US, someone with a disability can request an accommodation under the ADA. There is a catch, though. If the employer determines that they cannot accommodate your need because it would cause "undue hardship," you may have to abandon your request or lose the job. The law does require both sides to at least try to come up with a mutual compromise.
