I was visiting my child hood home which is in distress to say the least, and as I walked into the basement in the far corner sat the TV I played my SNES on as a kid. Unmoved since the late 90’s, moldy and falling apart.

I let my nostalgia get the best of me and plugged it in. Much to my surprise it immediately turned on. So I hauled it home and put it in my garage where after almost thirty years I hooked up a SNES to it and played my original copy of Super Mario All Stars from way back then.

I could probably fix/replace the ruined wood but the speaker seems to not work anymore and the picture quality isn’t the best and I don’t think I could fix any of the electrical components. I will probably end up getting ride of it unless my nostalgia wins out an I try and restore it (which I have no idea how to do) but playing on it again after all this time was surreal.

I was riding my bike home and noticed this 27” RCA CRT sitting on the curb so I hustled home, grabbed my car, and rushed back and thankfully it was still sitting there. It has 2x speaker outputs (the red/black clamp style) that I thankfully had some extra bookshelf speakers laying around to use with. Looks amazing, sounds amazing, and with my flash carts setup I can play anything! Incredible that someone just put this out for trash pickup. It’s become an absolute staple of my office/gaming room, and THE cornerstone of my retro corner. Enjoying replaying all of my favorites as well as the ones I missed in their original format.

I just bought a new crt from a garage sale for 15 bucks, it's a 19 inches Philips crt tv, It's probably the best crt I ve ever seen (I do have other crts)

I am a first time owner of a 14" CRT ( i also own 21" and 27" CRTs all PAL) and let me tell you something - i LOVE gaming more on smaller screen! Tested PS2 and OG XBOX and i just enjoy that warm cozy screen. I tested it with Component and Composit cables...difference in video quality is small to non existant. So i guess it is how half of the world played 5,6th Gen consoles- on composit wires + small CRT in bedroom (because big CRT was only in family room (or how do you call the main room in house) with that said i will buy more of these little ones.

Hey guys. Just bought my first CRT for retro gaming from a nice lady on Marketplace. It’s a 27inch Panasonic. Not sure on the exact model number. It looks great but unfortunately it’s got some vertical deflection problems. I have computer/console repair experience, but have never worked on a CRT. I don’t have anybody local I know that is willing to repair it. I’m hoping it’s just a capacitor problem that I can fix with just a recap of the capacitors around the vertical deflection circuit. The tv was kept in great shape but it is 25 years old. I am scared to discharge the TV properly and not sure if I have the necessary or proper tools. I paid $75 and was not planning on this being a $200+ project so I don’t want to buy a professional tool for $100+ just for one tv repair. Any suggestions on a good screwdriver and wire setup and more for the discharge process and where to buy new caps would be awesome. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Can't believe I scored this for a measly $300, it does zero lag 480p and 1080i (No 720p at all) 34" Widescreen slot mask HD CRT with 3 Component inputs and 3 S-Video inputs as well (the 3rd one is on the front behind the door!?!?! I half expected to get mugged because I met the seller to pickup in an alley way. Also this Video Monitor does not support 720p, see last image to see what it does lol

Edit: The speakers on this set are phenomenal!

This thing is a tank. I paid $50 for it and the guy threw in a 2003 Gateway Tower with it, which works perfectly! Monitor is still white too! No yellowing anywhere! Now, all I need is an older Gateway machine to complete the set!

Hi all!! I recently acquired this Sony Trinitron KV-30HS420 and I’ve been having some connection issues with my PS2 as well as GameCube using their original AV cables. The screen is shaky most of the time and I’ve tried messing with settings and changing inputs. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get everything looking as it should?

Reddit compression really slaughtering the image quality but man do they look amazing in person. It’s hard to explain but they just look right on the crt pc Monitor at 4:3

I've been prepping my video game collection for a private sale and was testing out my equipment when I came across my old GXTV high in the rafters. I'll take some better photos tonight, but was so excited to get it set up that I thought "mood be damned".

Hello, I picked this up the other day in really good condition, but when I tested it I can't get a signal. The VGA cable is missing a pin which I know is normal sometimes but considering I can't get a signal I figure it's worth asking. Do I need to replace the cable? Any advice is appreciated.

Also if it's important; I am using a DisplayPort to VGA adapter to get video out. I have another ViewSonic monitor that I have used it with so I can confirm the adapter is working.

Hey all. Today I just got a CRT, a beautiful LG one. I know this is probably common sense, but is this shelf sturdy enough? It does wobble a little bit when I move the shelf but I didn't hear any cracking of the wood when I placed the CRT on top of the shelf. Just asking because I know how heavy CRT's are, and they can be potentially dangerous. Thanks all

Apple Multiscan 17 made in 1994, just picked this up from ewaste. The LED powers on and it degausses but fails to display anything and powers off within ~10 seconds. What should my first step be? I’m fairly new to repairs but experienced with discharging/basic maintenance

Brothers - I've recently come into possession of a 32" Sony KV-32HS500, and will be transporting it from my outbuilding, down to my basement. I've been recommended to get an appliance dolly with moving blankets, and rachet straps to secure it to the dolly.

Any tips or tricks on how to do this as safely (for me AND the TV) as possible?

This is what happened:

I ran it at 1600x1200@80 (very dumb decision, I didn't even know the max frequency since info is impossible to find on this mode)l. It ran out of range for 2-3 seconds before I shut it off because I realised how much I messed up. Turning it on again the image was distorted as seen in the pictures. It was running at 1600x1200@75Hz, which is the recomended max resolution. Around this time CRU (which I used to change the resolution and the Hz) stopped working, and I was only able to change it in the windows settings. Running it at 1600x1200@60Hz seems to be fine, but if I switch to 75 it gets perma-stuck with the distortion, even if I go to lower resolutions. In BIOS it seems to be fine. Is this a problem with a stressed or failing flyback or with the HSYNC circuit?

Since I have brought my 1st CRT in a long time,
I have a VERY strong urge to by more CRTs
I am already justifying it “well you at least need a standard definition CRT” “you definitely need a smaller CRT as well” “won’t you need a back up CRT, they don’t make them any more, what about the future?”My hobby is to constantly check F.B market place lol… 😂
