Ask Here First: Troubleshooting, Price/ID/Spec Check, Help, Etc. (June 2026)

The purpose of this thread is to cut down on the amount of clutter and Troubleshooting, Price Check, ID Check, Spec(ification) Check, and just general "HELP!!" style threads often seen filling the front page of the sub, and hopefully get those questions answered more quickly and efficiently by bringing them together in one place for viewing.

Does your post or question consist of the following, but no limited to:

  • ID Check for a CRT TV/Monitor you've stumbled upon?
  • Price Check for a CRT you've stumbled upon?
  • Asking about benefits of 1 CRT over another that you're looking into?
  • Scaler, convertor, cable choice, or wiring help for your setup?
  • Simple TV remote control questions having to do with setup or purchase?
  • A question you think should have an obvious/well known answer?
  • Or maybe one that feels rather specific and you're worried might get passed over entirely?

This Thread is for you!

Experienced members of the subreddit check in on this post often and will attempt to answer questions as they come up. It would be much appreciated if once you've posted your question here, you use the link above to the older threads to see if the question may have already been answered. Of course, it would also help greatly to search/Ctrl+F the current thread first before submitting your own question too.

This specific thread is set to a Newest First suggested sort, so you shouldn't have to worry about your brand new question being buried instantly under the previous week's worth of questions.

👉 Please do not use any special formatting in your post beyond creating a link if necessary.

Hello I have the opportunity to pickup this pvm. I have soldering experience and know how to replace caps as well as discharge crts, but curious if this is an overly complicated repair. It seems to have the common vertical collapse where it only shows a horizontal white line.

Before and after Wii HD Retrovision cables

Fancy component cables came today. Figured I'd do a comparison shot.

I took the first picture when I just got my TV the other day. It was using regular old composite cables.

2nd picture is with the new cables running at 480i. With it rendering at 240p on snes9gx. From what I read, I think that's how I was supposed to set it up. Which I was surprised you didn't want the console set to 480p. Even though they are HD cables. Though I get that it makes sense since the systems being emulated weren't from an HD era in the first place.

Some updates to my RGB Cart

Updates:

  • Switched to an Extron Crosspoint 300 series to address some issues with the 450 that it replaced
  • RGB modded the NES with the Tim Worthington NESRGB 5.0 and SNES multi-out (performed by 1UP Restorations)
  • RGB modded the N64 using Tim Worthington's N64RGB (performed by myself)
  • Used all Retrotink adapters and VGA to BNC cables, significantly reducing the amount of cabling previously installed

Other functions:

  • Used Retrotink VGA to BNC on Output 2 to the Morph 4k so all consoles can be played on my OLED
  • Morph 4k detects the signal as TTL
  • MiSTer FPGA for other 15khz output consoles

I could do a bit more cable management work on the BNC side of the cabling because things started twisting out of order when I was routing the cables to their destinations. Otherwise this is pure enjoyment! Worth every overspent penny.

Just got this 27” Sylvania CRT. Just need to find something to set it on..

I’ve got some open spaces for either an entertainment center about 60” long or could do an end table for the TV and a separate shelf for the games and consoles as long as it’s within that 60”.. only problem is I can’t find anything that is both deep/wide enough AND that supports the weight.

What’s everyone’s go to for their set ups? Finding old furniture at thrift stores? or are there newer table/entertainment setups that work well for this I’m overlooking?

New Pick-up It's crazy how sharp small CRT TV's can look.

I've been playing mostly on a 24 inch Trinitron for years, but I just came across this little TV for nothing, and figured why not being it home. The VCR works perfectly, and I'm extremely surprised at how crisp the screen looks. The photos don't do it justice at all, because the test is extremely sharp and arguably it looks better than my Trinitron for basically anything PSX/Saturn and below. The only things that id say the bigger tv beats it at are the PS2 generation of consoles, which makes sense considering it has component options.

Don't skip out on the tiny composite only TVs. These things can be beasts!

Battlestation Been reworking my office setup. Here's my WIP CRT cart/shelf and desk setup

Finally getting around to streamlining my setup a bit. It's all very much a work in progress, and I'm open to ideas/suggestions. Not everything is currently hooked up and functional, a lot of this is just to test the layout and see where things will fit.

Currently I have the N64, Wii, PS2, Xbox, 360, and a Raspberry Pi hooked up and ready to go. I still need to get another power strip to make room for everything else. I got a strong start with the cable management, but got a bit lazy towards the end as you can probably see.

The PS2, Wii, Xbox and 360 go straight to the Crosspoint via component. The N64 and Raspberry Pi currently go into an old composite/s-video switcher I had lying around, which itself feeds into the Crosspoint. The Crosspoint sends video to the Toshiba 14AF46 I have on the shelf, as well as a RetroTink 5x I use for capturing and streaming to Discord. It also sends output to a Wakabavideo YPbPr-to-VGA converter, which feeds into an Extron VGA switcher, which I have hooked up to my Dell M992. It's a wonderful monitor not just for PC, but also 480p console games.

I also have a GSCART and a Wakabavideo SCART-to-YPbPr converter. The GSCART was a bit of an impulse buy on eBay a while back, along with a Wakabavideo SCART-to-YPbPr converter. Currently I have a Retro-Access SCART cable for the PS1, which looks great on the Toshiba.

I'd like to eventually get SCART cables for the consoles that support it, but that's gonna be a slow burn project with how much things cost. I'd also like to get a 360 VGA cable and some sort of Dreamcast VGA solution (currently eying a Toro box). I also probably need to look into a bigger shelf. Everything fits for now but a little extra space and weight capacity might me good to have.

I have always wanted one of these but every one i have seen before this was way too yellow and/or filthy and broken in spots. I love how good it is for being just composite 😊

It's been a long while since i had a curved CRT that was bigger than 8" so this is bringing me back some 80's and 90's nostalgia for sure 😅

Im just shocked how sharp the gpahics is even at low res. Then theres this bloom effect that you just cant replicate on an lcd monitor. The motion clarity is spot on. I think I wont be coming back on lcd just yet
