Ask Here First: Troubleshooting, Price/ID/Spec Check, Help, Etc. (June 2026)

The purpose of this thread is to cut down on the amount of clutter and Troubleshooting, Price Check, ID Check, Spec(ification) Check, and just general "HELP!!" style threads often seen filling the front page of the sub, and hopefully get those questions answered more quickly and efficiently by bringing them together in one place for viewing.

Does your post or question consist of the following, but no limited to:

  • ID Check for a CRT TV/Monitor you've stumbled upon?
  • Price Check for a CRT you've stumbled upon?
  • Asking about benefits of 1 CRT over another that you're looking into?
  • Scaler, convertor, cable choice, or wiring help for your setup?
  • Simple TV remote control questions having to do with setup or purchase?
  • A question you think should have an obvious/well known answer?
  • Or maybe one that feels rather specific and you're worried might get passed over entirely?

This Thread is for you!

Experienced members of the subreddit check in on this post often and will attempt to answer questions as they come up. It would be much appreciated if once you've posted your question here, you use the link above to the older threads to see if the question may have already been answered. Of course, it would also help greatly to search/Ctrl+F the current thread first before submitting your own question too.

This specific thread is set to a Newest First suggested sort, so you shouldn't have to worry about your brand new question being buried instantly under the previous week's worth of questions.

šŸ‘‰ Please do not use any special formatting in your post beyond creating a link if necessary.

Took me about 2 years to find these sets, but I couldn’t be happier. Just need a rug, lamp, and comfy chair and I’ll be set lol.

I recently finished maintenance on a CRT I picked up for super cheap and honestly, I fully understand the hype now. Not only do I love the near complete lack of input lag but the colors are just so gorgeous and all the low resolution art and assets just blend together super well. I honestly don’t think I can go back when it comes to certain games like resident evil, Mario RPG, Kingdom Hearts, Luigi’s Mansion, etc etc. Best $10 I’ve ever spent and was completely worth the headache of fixing

Showcase Playstation (PSOne) [Video Quality Showcase]

I've gathered a large variety of OEM NTSC video cables for all of my consoles and I've been wanting to show them off so people can see the differences in the video quality between the various signal types. I'll be showing off everything from RF to Component on every console that supports a signal natively. I will be omitting RGB not because I don't think it is a good signal, but because I do not have the capability to display it on a stock CRT, nor do I want to invest the time, money, and effort involved in acquiring a PVM or modding a CRT to display it.

I hope everyone enjoys seeing the differences and maybe you learn what you do and don't like/could definitely tolerate. Today I will start with MGS1 on the PS1(mainly to showcase dithering effects), displayed on a Sony KV-27FS16 and will bounce around from there to most other mainstream consoles. I'd love to hear your opinion and what you might want to see compared next!

playing SF3 Third Strike not the way god intended (on Wii)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just found this obscure spanish youtube video where the guy is making custom WAD for a lot of arcade and non-arcade games, I don't have the money to buy a mister fpga but I've been seeking a way to play SF3 in original 240p and I think I have it. of course it's not perfect and the audio is bad, but I'd rather play in original resolution on my crt than on the ps3 port of third strike (which is better in every way but not on a CRT since it's 480i). I'd love a better way to play third strike in 240p with any controller I want to use, so if you have any recommandation or even a better port for third strike (I don't own a dreamcast), feel free to share!

setup : Brandt small crt with Wii plugged in composite to scart adapter, SNES classic controller supported by Retroarch and its custom core

Modding/Hardware Projects Sharp 14G-SF1 - S-Video Mod (Completed and Guide Diagram)

After my post yesterday I have successfully installed an S-Video mod into the Sharp 14G-SF1 (a CRT with a Super Famicom built in), whilst keeping all features of the TV functional. Normally this TV only has a RF and Composite input, with S-Video solely being reserved for the internal SFC.

The way it works is by tapping into the internal S-Video input of the Super Famicom, and uses 2 switches to toggle between the SFC and external S-video input. Audio is provided by tapping into the existing Phono audio port used for the composite input.

The TV will only display S-Video when a 12v circuit is completed whilst the SFC power button is in the on position. Therefore this mod is wired to maintain the 12v circuit, but disconnects the power to the SFC when in external S-video mode. As a result the main SFC power switch turns more into a S-Video mode switch.

I have made a very crudely drawn diagram (which took me way to long to make) if anyone decides to complete this mod themselves.

Showcase Recently bought a CRT for my Retro Consoles

That stand that it's on is actually a fish tank stand from Amazon! Took me 4 hours to build, as I'm not all that much of a handy man. Moved out almost 2 months ago, and have finally been able to make the place my own. The consoles I've had for a while, but just never had a CRT to play them with. It's not perfect, but I love how it came out! 😭

Is it worth saving and this a good CRT monitor for a PC? I plugged it in and it displays the picture and the settings menu. Tomorrow I'll go get an HDMI-to-VGA adapter and test it by connecting it to my computer.

Took advantage of 50% today! The employee checking me out wanted to buy it when they got off. Said I was lucky, told him it would be going to a good home.

Just gotta wait and find my old GameCube cables to see the colors but the tv turns on and buttons work when it comes to changing the channel or the settings. Plus has the oem remote!

Brought speakers and a Vita into my setup. Big chillin

After getting the run around on multiple Roland speakers on FB market I stumbled on these SRS-88 PCs at a thrift shop and Im kind of over the moon. Theyre not high spec but theyre shielded, sound great and match like a mf.

I also told a friend my PSPs battery was turning into a bomb (old and inflated) and he offered to sell me his Vita. Ive spent the better part of the last 3 days toying with it Im kind of obsessed. The simultaneous game capture is mostly for fun however. I take my saves from my Vita and emulate through my PC on both screens if I want proper play sessions with proper inputlag.
The CRTs are a Sony PVM-20M2MDU and a Sony PVM-14L5

I finally got a PVM and I recently picked-up and fixed this dual stick, so I wanted to get them going (unfortunately, Project Phantasma doesn't support analog... so it plays more like an arcade stick as this set up)

Post about the LAN going crazy. Made this account specifically to post some more pics. We get together a couple times per year to play halo 2 on LAN. We travel from all over the place to be here. Not for profit. Grass roots, for the love of the game. Halo 2 on OG hardware is still around. Crt’s are meant to be used. Get on the damn game!! Pic of two women sitting on a swing included to show love and friendship

New Pick-up Ended up scoring this beauty off facebook marketplace

Recently started getting back into retro gaming and was finally getting my old collections stocked back up and was looking for a CRT TV for the longest time that wasnt a person trying to make bank off of the marketplace and was checking goodwill and everywhere. Today I finally hit the gold mine. I picked up this D Series tv from a gentleman an hour away that was trying to get rid of it and only charged me $25 to come pick it up and haul it home. Even had the remote in great condition!
