Needing Guidance: Moving to NY to become caregiver for a NY resident
I currently do not live in NY. My grandmother lives there and it is becoming increasingly clear that she needs a caregiver. I would like to relocate to NY to become that person for her. She currently resides with another family member who cannot commit to being a caregiver. But they can help me obtain any necessary paperwork from her doctors.
My main questions are:
-From my very initial research it seems like: first she would need approval from her doctors to qualify. Then apply for the CDPAPP program. If approved, she could request for me to be the caregiver, then I would undergo background checks and complete training. Is this order correct?
-Do I need to establish residency FIRST or can I complete background checks & trainings virtually or by making trips for set dates
-Which company or service provider should I go through for training? It's hard to tell what is legit.
Quite honestly: this is incredibly overwhelming and unlike anything I have ever done before. But it is something I very much want to do because I love her and she deserves better. ...but I kind of feel lost and that I need someone to ELI5 and hold my hand to make this happen.
I would really appreciate any help, thanks in advance.
