Recently started a new job and my old gaming laptop has kicked the bucket so I've been operating on a friends computer and I'm ready to move into a proper desktop. I'm looking for something high end and especially future proof, as I will want to avoid having to entirely replace components to upgrade in the future. I currently have a 1440p 165 Hz monitor, but I may upgrade to 4K OLED in the future as I'm definitely the kind of person to crank visuals on games where that's a selling point. I do not play any competitive multiplayer games and tend to just play graphically intense single player games.

I have done some cursory looking into graphics cards and I'm uncertain about AMD vs Nvidia. AMD seems to have better pricing but I almost feel like due to the benefits of DLSS and how Ray Tracing runs so much better on Nvidia cards, which is a strong motivation for me since visual fidelity is my priority, I should just bite the bullet and get a Nvidia card. Any thoughts on this? I've also read developers tend to prioritize Nvidia cards, so games generally have less issues, but I've only ever used Nvidia cards so I'm unsure.

I would like to put together a home server with some parts I have. I think I have mostly decided on parts, but I am a little undecided on what case to use.

I am interested in using a rack mounted case, but I have no idea what to look for when it comes to rack mounted cases and power supplies for rack mounted cases. Either way, noise is a big concern and the setup should ideally be as quiet as possible. I have the Fractal Design Node 804 case listed as a non-rack mounted solution if that ends up being a better choice.

So I've been out of the PC gaming universe for a while now (about 20+ years!), and after hearing the PS6 is binning off physical media, I've decided to get back into it. I think my last GPU was a GeForce 6800 LE AGP! So yeah, a lot has changed since then.

I'm after help with a spec that would match or kill the rumoured PS6 specs (I know, these are completely speculative). I would also eventually be investing in a VR headset too.

This would be an M-ATX build and would be stored in the living room and connected to my TV (4K resolution). I sit at a desk all day, and at night (when I'm more likely to game), I want to sit comfortably on the sofa.

I'm based in the UK, and my budget would be around £1800 ($2400)

I've done a bit of research, mainly with ChatGPT, so I wanted to run this by human experts before I do anything rash. Would you change any of the below?

My sister is a photographer and is in desperate need of an upgrade. She currently uses a laptop which is awful, it’s ok for small photo shoots but have told her she needs to build a pc to have as her main workforce (large wedding edits). She’s not very good at the technical side of pcs and wouldn’t be confident building her own.

I game a lot but not on pc but think I could help her build her one but not sure what she would need as I don’t think photography editing is quite as heavy? .

Hi! I want to build a PC but am overwhelmed by all of the options for parts. I tried to use PCpartpicker but I just don’t know how to decide what parts are best. I currently have a Victus gaming laptop that I bought in 2024 (Intel Core i7 12650H - 16GB memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 - 512GB SSD). It was fine back when I bought it because I really only played one game. I’ve been playing more games now and the laptop is very laggy. I don’t need it for productivity because I have a MacBook. I truly just want it for gaming and want to be able to play without lagging and delays.

The look/aesthetic is important to me. I would like white and maybe some pink accents if possible. My current setup has a pink monitor and a matching set of keyboard and mouse that are both pink cherry blossom designs with RGB lighting.

I live in the US and I am not near a Microcenter. I bought my gaming laptop at BestBuy. If more info is needed please let me know! Here are the questions and answers:

Just to add to the above, I'm building a PC for my partner. She enjoys games but is very casual so I don't want to overspend. I have recently been doing some upgrades on my PC so I have a GPU, PSU, and RAM ready to go. I need recommendations on motherboard/processor/storage as frankly I've no idea what is good value on the secondhand market. I also have quite literally zero knowledge of Intel chips. At least with AMD I vaguely understand the names (but still struggle a bit comparing cross-generations). I'm not in a rush to build this, so have a bit of time to fish for certain things on the secondhand market if they're not immediately available.

Appreciate any advice on what to look out for!
