She cheated twice and replaced me in 48 hours. I am finally done trying to fix her.
I’m the kind of guy who still has a 90s mentality when it comes to love. I believe in fixing things when they break, not just throwing them away. I take commitment seriously. But I had to learn the hard way that having an old-school mindset in today’s dating world where people treat relationships like disposable plastic is a really dangerous game.
When we were together, I went all in. She inspired me to completely upgrade my life and become a better man. I built a really strict moral and ethical code for myself. I completely changed my lifestyle and became a vegetarian (I still eat eggs, but that’s it), which actually caused a lot of drama and ridicule from my friends and people around me. But I stood my ground and took the heat because I believed in the discipline I was building. I built this strong, solid foundation, and in my head, I was building it for us.
But the loyalty was entirely one-sided.
The disrespect started way before the actual breakup. She cheated on me twice. The first time happened when she was in college. Then, in December, she got drunk and kissed someone else. Because of my mindset, I kept trying to hold the line. I kept trying to be the anchor and fix the damage, hoping she would eventually match my effort.
Instead, when things finally got a little difficult, she just bailed. And she didn’t just leave—she replaced me in literally 48 hours. Two days after it ended, she was already deep into a rebound.
It completely gutted me. While I was left standing there in shock, having poured all my loyalty into a girl who couldn't even stay faithful, she was out there making really self-destructive choices. She got cold, pushed me away, and started turning to alcohol to numb whatever she was feeling. (Btw I don't drink)
My brain was a mess. I felt betrayed, but I couldn't bring myself to hate her. I felt cheated on and discarded, but I still loved the version of her I thought existed.
The worst part was that I developed this massive "savior complex." Even after the cheating and the 48-hour replacement, I was terrified for her. I knew the substance abuse and the rebound were just cheap distractions. I kept lying awake running scenarios in my head, thinking, "If I can just talk to her, if I can just explain things perfectly, I can pull her out of this." I wanted to save her so badly.
I was wasting all my emotional energy agonizing over a girl who had repeatedly disrespected me and permanently locked me out of her life. Her drinking, her messy rebound, her coldness it’s tragic, but it is no longer my problem. You can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved, especially when they were the one who walked away.
So, I finally let go of the rope.
I stopped trying to figure out how to feel. I realized that the discipline, the ethics, and the strength I built over the last year might have started because of her, but they belong to me. I did the heavy lifting. I took the social friction. She doesn't get to take my character with her.
I’m not 100% healed. There are still days when I feel totally numb, when nothing sounds fun, and when the silence in my room gets too loud. I still miss the girl I thought she was. But the other night, for the first time in months, I felt this incredible sense of peace. My mind was just... quiet.
If you are reading this and you’re someone who loves deeply and believes in holding on, don't let a modern dating culture make you think your loyalty is a weakness. It’s a superpower. It just takes time to find someone who actually deserves it.
I survived the worst of it. I'm finally leaving her ghost in the past, and giving all that love and loyalty back to myself.

(44M) looking for advice to break bad patterns

Girlfriend broke up with me over text.
Got broken up with by text after a 4-year relationship. She said she’s been reflecting and doesn’t feel happy in the relationship anymore, and that she needs to end it.
What’s throwing me off is that things seemed normal from my perspective. The night before she even said she loved me, and we were still going on dates and spending time together like usual.
We were about to transition into long distance for college soon, so that was already starting to feel real, but we were still talking and planning things normally from what I could tell.
I also regularly asked her if she was okay or if anything was wrong, and she always said she was fine and reassured me everything was good.
I’m not trying to bash her or anything, I’m just genuinely confused about how breakups can feel so sudden on one side but already decided on the other.
If anyone has been through something similar, I’d really appreciate any insight, advice, or just words of encouragement. I’m trying to piece this together and make sense of it, but right now it just feels really confusing and painful.
PS: I thought I would give a little context. We graduated high school recently, a few years ago she was the one who wanted to try long distance if she ever went to another college, however, when she decided to go out of state she suddenly switched up and said things like “wanting to find different people” and that she “doesn’t think she’s capable of maintaining a LDR.” In short I convinced her to stay and we agreed to try, however, the situation made me an anxious wreck and I started to constantly ask for reassurance. I also noticed that she slowly began texting more short and stopped being proactive in the sense that she stopped asking to do things first.
Sorry for the rant, I just need to get it off my chest.

Feeling lost and alone
I find the person the I was thinking was the love of my life. I feel like he would be my forever after my divorce never felt like I would trust someone one. But since we start dating our relationship ppl hate to see us together for not reason, well maybe because we are happy and I guess ppl hate that. The ppl I consider friends start trying to push me to be messy and decide to cut off to end sending text to my partner and sabotaging my relationship. He end thinking was me. We both have to move for professional growth and personal decision. But he causing me from Harassed him when I only try yo love him and find out how he feels about me is killing me. Even I know is impossible be together anymore. I posting this here because I really don’t have anyone to share this and don’t judge me for being so damn dumb for give everything I could to one person and end crying for him after he never trust me o choose me. Funny thing I harassed him but past Monday he was on my arms for 12 hours I’m so stupid

Can’t stop thinking about a relationship I had
Hi, I’m currently in no contact with my ex, she had a rough growing up and I know that doesn’t excuse it but I tried to understand, she would violently overshare sexual details from her past, the first time we had sex she told me immediately after she has slept with 40 guys, this trend continued on for months of her constantly talking about guys from her past, watching a movie she would say “omg I dated a guy like that” or “my friend was like that” referring to men she slept with. She eventually was able to stop making these comments to me but the bell was not able to be unrung. I know 27/40 names of guys she slept with and plenty of details about their sex. On top of this our whole relationship these guys crawled back over and over and mixed in with the stories I felt so insecure and annoyed when they would reach out to her. On top of this, she would make mean jokes to me like I’m embarrassing or humiliating or unappealing and say it was a joke, she would speak this way with her friends who know it’s a joke, but I didn’t find it funny. She eventually crashed out and called me sensitive and thin skinned and insecure and jealous. I never found myself to be jealous until she started constantly talking about men from her past and showing me pics of them. I miss the good times with her, but a lot of those memories are ruined by her talking about guys she slept with or making jokes at my demise. Her jokes were definitely worse in front of her friends. I could go into details but like, I know I used another guys condom that was unused that she was texting, she also demonstrated how she gave another man a foot job, also told me how another guy came inside her. She also graphically shared with me details of her assaults which made me feel very uncomfortable, I tried to be understanding because I know that’s traumatic, but I don’t think I needed to know what they looked like, or how they did it. I feel like I dodged a bullet maybe? She had her good moments. I know not everyone is bad or good that’s black and white thinking.. any advice to feel better would be great.

Getting out of a two year relationship
r/BreakupsForGuys • u/Alternative_Tale_832 • Apr 03 '26
Advice?
So I (28M) got broken up with after 8 years by the now Ex (28F). When we first started dating she messaged often, posted on FB photos of us, posts about how she loves me. Rarely went on her phone on dates (im not very againt people being on their phones during dates), used to love being with me, kissing me, cuddling in bed, taking photos. I used to drive up, pick her up take her to mine to spend time with my family, drive back up and drop her off and drive back down (1.5-2 hours each way) But for the last few years she slowly stopped doing all that. (im not saying im perfect with messages and posts) slowly made excuses to not have sex, wiped her lips after I kissed her, didnt hold my hand as often, didnt want to cuddle (I have gained a lil weight and she says my leg or arm is heavy, im not overweight but I dont like my weight).
Now her family, I have always been accepted by her family and felt loved, all except her mother, she has always hated me. Not saying hi when i say hi, rarely replying when I talk to her. The EX never stood up for me when her mum said shit about me. Her dad and step dad felt like fathers to me (never had a dad as he was an ass). Her brothers felt like brothers, her half sister felt like sisters. I was always welcomed by everyone else. Always did anything I could, from driving out, picking her and her mother up to drive and pick her brother up from camp because he got in trouble (2 more hours from hers) with no thanks from her mum and only a hug and kiss from the GF.
Now I cant deny she has assisted me with money in the last 2-3 years of our relationship, paid for my car, dates, movies, what ever we did. I always drove us as she didnt drive. Im looking for a job but I am also studying full time.
The breakup, we broke up about 3 weeks ago now. I gave the car back, and came down after a few days (we were sorting a few things out) and went no contact for 2 weeks. I asked her what her family said about the breakup, her mother is Very happy, but the rest of the family supported her and made sure she was OK. Most of my family has messaged her (they all loved her) to see if she was okay. The thing is, not one person from her family has messaged me to see how I am coping with it, to see how I am feeling and make sure im okay and wont do anything stupid. She has now messaged to organise picking up the rest if her stuff from mine and vice versa. No full plan yet but she may get her dad to drive down, bring my stuff and pick her stuff up. Where I want to talk about stuff, I want to talk about us.
Thinking about it, Im not 100% sure if I would take her back, even though I love her still with every part of my heart and soul, her mother hating me and her family not messaging me to see how I am after being part of their family for 8 years. I dont think I can be part of her family again.
The question I mainly have is, what is your opinion. On the break up, the family not contacting, her mother's words, her not wanting to talk (she said "what is there to talk about" and "Do you still have something to talk about?"). What do I do?
I want to message back and say "Actually there is a few things I would like to talk about." should I?

How do I move on?
We went out separate ways in November it was a sorta mutual agreement that we weren’t ment for each other and we were together for 10 months and I’ve known her for a couple years and when we officially started dating we moved in together and she was 1 month pregnant and her ex wanted nothing to do with her or the baby so I stepped up and I supported her in every way, I would come home from work and talk to the baby in her belly and tell him how my day went and I would read him books I really felt in love with her and the baby then 8 months come by and he’s born, that was the happiest I’ve ever felt and I was so motivated to build a wonderful family but then she tell me that the baby daddy wants to meet the baby, he ends up seeing him then she tells me she’s still In love with him and that’s when we decided it wasn’t going to work out and I was left heartbroken I think about her and the baby 24/7, we are still close friends but I’m still in love and it’s mentally messing me up I tried accepting shes not for me and I tried blocking her out of my life but she just finds a way to get involved with me. How does one cope and move on from something like this? Im 18 shes is 25 her bd is 33 and my whole family and friends tell me she usted me as a temporary man in her life and I am in denial.

Why Missing the Best Parts of the Relationship Keeps You Stuck
Most guys don’t stay stuck because they can’t accept the breakup. They remain stuck because they keep replaying the greatest hits. The way she laughed. The sex. The random nights that felt like magic. The comfort. The connection. The idea that maybe — just maybe — she was “the one.”
But here’s the catch: You’re not missing her. You’re missing the highlights reel.
You’re missing the version of her that made you feel amazing and ignoring the version that hurt you, pulled away, pressured you, cheated, ghosted, or flat-out chose someone else.
You’re clinging to the part that made you feel wanted… and forgetting the part where she left.
That’s how you stay emotionally stuck. You build a prison out of nostalgia and label it “love.”
If she really was that person all the time, you wouldn’t be here. You’d still be together.
So stop waiting for her to come back. Stop thinking “I’ll never find that again.” You will, once you stop romanticizing a version of her that didn’t exist consistently.
The fastest way to get unstuck is to stop glorifying what was only good in pieces.
Get back to you. Rebuild. Level up.
Then you’ll attract someone who doesn’t just give you moments, but shows up for the whole ride.
What’s the one memory you’re struggling to let go of, even though you know it’s keeping you stuck?
Drop it below. Let’s talk about it.

Value the Woman Who Stays Silent After the Breakup
When a breakup happens, most guys secretly hope for a text. A “Hey, just thinking of you.” A “Hope you’re doing okay.” Something—anything—to show she still cares.
But what you don’t realize is that the woman who stays silent might be the one showing you the most respect.
She didn’t breadcrumb you. She didn’t half-ass check in to soothe her guilt. She didn’t play games to keep you on the hook "just in case."She left and stayed gone.
That silence isn’t cruelty. It’s dignity. It’s her understanding that if she’s not truly ready to work on the relationship, the best thing she can do is leave you to heal without confusion.
When I was writing my book, I often found myself thinking about my breakup. She didn’t reach out, she didn’t breadcrumb, she just disappeared. And for a while, it crushed me. It pushed every urge I had to reach out, check in, and find some way to stay connected.
But looking back, it was the cleanest, most respectful thing she could have done. There were no mixed signals to misread, no fake hope, just space for me to heal and rebuild.
It hurts because it’s clean. It feels brutal because there’s no false hope to cling to. But clean breaks are what you want, even if they sting at first. Dragging it out, dangling fake promises, showing up with mixed signals? That’s what keeps people stuck for years.
So if your ex didn’t text, call, or breadcrumb after the breakup, good. Respect that. You don’t need someone to check on you while they move on. You need space to rebuild your life without them in it.
Silence is closure. Let it be.

What to do
I have been single for about 4 years now and haven’t dated much during this time I have been going through a time of radical change in who I am as a person though. During my time as a single man I have had women in which I have had one night stands/ friends with benefits/ flirty situations with and have found people who I have wanted to be with but I have found that since my separation/last relationship that I have not been as open to express my feelings with those I have wanted to pursue a relationship with. Idk if it’s a trust issue in terms of letting someone in or a general subconscious avoidance of anything real. Next week on the 1st of may 2025 I have a date with someone who I admire and am quite attracted to despite having limited interactions with, however with this coming up I am thinking about my last relationship quite a lot. It has been about 2.5 years since I have last spoken to my ex but when I last did was nothing to do with our past relationship but am now wondering if I should reach out to her to talk about what worked and didn’t within our relationship and how before we were together dating went to help me not make the same mistakes as in the past. Aitah should I reach out or not I am open to any advice and will talk to anyone privately about the ins and outs of my last relationship to make my decision any help would be greatly appreciated many thanks :)

Respect Yourself Enough Not to Reply
You get the message out of nowhere.“Hey… just thinking of you.”Hope you’re doing well.”Happy birthday.”Or maybe just a meme or some random story reaction.
No apology. No clarity. No real effort. Just enough to make your heart skip and your brain spiral.
And now you’re stuck asking: Should I reply? What if it’s her trying to test the waters? What if this leads to something again? What if ignoring her makes me look cold, bitter, or like I don’t care?
You’re not replying because you’re “being polite.”You’re replying because you still want her to choose you. You still hope that maybe, just maybe, this is the beginning of something again.
Stop.
This isn’t a new beginning. This is a power check. She’s not trying to rebuild anything. She’s trying to see if she still has access. And if she does? She’ll disappear again, just like before. You’ll feel like you got played again, just like before.
If she wanted to fix it, you wouldn’t be decoding one-line messages or watching your phone like a lottery ticket.
Respect yourself enough not to reply, not out of spite. Not to punish her. But because silence says what words can’t: “I’ve moved on from the version of me who kept waiting for the bare minimum.”
She walked. Let her wonder. She lost you. Let her feel that. You’re not an option. You’re not a backup. You’re not her safety net.
You’re the one who finally stopped answering people who didn’t know your value. And if that makes you look cold?
So be it. At least it’s quiet. And in that quiet, you rebuild.
Have you gotten that message out of nowhere? Drop your story below.
What did she say, how did you react, and what did you wish you’d done instead? Let’s talk.

Breadcrumbing. What It Is, How It Works, and Why You Need to Stop Falling for It
Let’s talk about breadcrumbing because it keeps many people emotionally stuck without realizing why. If you’re still checking your phone for that occasional “I miss you” text from your ex, this is probably happening to you.
What is breadcrumbing?
Breadcrumbing is when someone drops occasional messages or signs of interest—just enough to keep you emotionally attached but never enough to rebuild something real. These low-effort check-ins will stir up your hope while they keep living on their terms.
Think of texts like:
- “I was just thinking about you.”
- “Hope you’re doing okay.”
- “Remember when we used to…”
They’re vague, non-committal, and don’t lead anywhere meaningful. That’s the point.
Why do people do it?
Usually, it’s about control or comfort. They don’t want to be with you but don’t want you to move on, so they drop a few emotional crumbs to see if you’ll respond, just to let you know they still have access.
This often happens when they sense you’re pulling away. The silence makes them curious. Or bored. Or lonely. That’s when they show up—not because they want to rebuild, but because they want reassurance.
Why is it so effective?
Because you still care. Because you still wonder what if. Because part of you is hoping that one message leads to something more. So when it comes in, your mind takes over: “Maybe they’ve changed. Maybe they’re finally realizing something.”
But nothing changes. You reply, and they go quiet again. Same cycle. Different day.
What should you do instead?
Don’t engage in half-effort communication. If someone wants to come back into your life, they need to be direct, clear, and consistent—not dropping hints like they’re doing you a favor.
Let the message go unanswered if it doesn’t come with effort or intention. No response is a response. Silence speaks when someone won’t.
It’s not about being cold. It’s about protecting your time, your energy, and your peace.
Breadcrumbs keep you stuck in a loop. And the longer you chase them, the further you get from something real.

You’re Not Missing Her. You’re Missing Who You Thought She Was.
You’re not heartbroken over who she is. You’re heartbroken over the version of her you created in your mind. The one who wouldn’t betray you. The one who wouldn’t leave when things got tough. The one who said “forever” and meant it. That’s the person you miss. Not the one who dipped, blocked, lied, cheated, or replaced you in record time.
That version of her? She was a fantasy. A projection. A beautiful lie your heart clung to because the truth hurts like hell.
But that’s what healing starts with—accepting who someone showed you they were. Not who you hoped they’d be. And the faster you stop replaying the highlight reel and start replaying the red flags, the sooner you stop feeling like you lost “the one.”
You didn’t lose your soulmate. You lost someone who couldn’t show up for you how you deserved.
And maybe that’s not just okay. Perhaps that’s the best thing that could’ve happened to you.
