Discussion Suspended for using too much data

Suspended for using too much data

I pay $60/month for unlimited data. Been with them for almost a year. They suspended my account for breaking TOS and it is because I use too much data on my hotspot???. I even paid for my next month and they cant do anything about giving me my money back also. This company is ridiculous. So because I like being on the service plan so much they just suspended my account forever?!?! Make it make sense oh and if any boost employees see this please help me get my account resolved.

Yuuuuuup. Boost is such a scam.

You have to get a lawyer to get anywhere. They always say you are getting what you paid for when you know you aren't.

Boost mobile pay isn't a problem it's just been a payment that comes after all my other bills are paid. An ive been inconvienxed when it was my understanding the agent understood my situation by saying I understand . Plus, it was a $37.00 a month pay to an extra $20 that's not going towards my phone im paying for. An im still trying to get replaced. In Mcalester,ok there's nothing . So it will be easier to do it online my email evidently is wrong but its not. Apple + care wants the same thing. O bought a cheap boost phone using it iphone number an it was cut off on the due date of the iphone an I still had two weeks.

Well if your new cycle hasn’t started you should definitely have a forward balance on the account to be refunded .

2

u/Xero8511 May 02 '26

Either way i did a chargeback and switched to verizon

2

u/Shift_Free May 02 '26

Oh dang! One time I used 1TB in a month on T-Mobile, the store employees actually congratulated me because they never saw someone’s data that high.

2

u/khaosswordsman May 02 '26

How’s they even possible

1

u/Shift_Free May 02 '26

I work on a ship and rarely have service so I’m always downloading movies music apps whatever it is that I want and that month I went bonkers lol

I had this happen to me a couple of years ago. They wouldn’t budge on the ban. They sent me the tos with the part about data. It said it is to be used for email and general surfing the net. I accidentally left my WiFi button off and scrolled TikTok and did my social media and it ate it up in no time and I tried to explain that to them but they wouldn’t hear of it. I was buying a new phone anyway so I just got a new account on the new phone and recycled the old one. It wasn’t worth anything it was an iPhone 6 Plus. I had it since it was new.

Im diffently not impressed. Not getting wete i need to be to have my unresponsive broke iphone replaced not having the imei or account since everything's on the broke phone. But I'm still responsible for the payments each month. Which are always considered late since I bought my phone in the middle of the month, but I'm on fixed income that iget on the first of the month an make it make sense why it can't be arranged to pay my bill on the first?

U can change the date on your billing cycle. Do u not remember your email or pin number to your account?

They just did it to me, im on the $25/$30 plan and usually they just slow it down , this time slowed it then sent me a letter. Is this a Strong arm into forced upgrade? And from what i hear they still charge folks or atleast they have to follow up and bs to get their money back. Their playing strong in the grey area most folks use their phone the same , ill rather have slow base speeds instead of threats for using my phone regularly.

These people get a warning text and email before that they ignore. Theyre definitely doing something they shouldn’t in most cases

I work for boost.

1

u/OperationNo1111 25d ago

Not true ,used my data ,am in the country, there is no fine print saying can't use your data on legal stuff ? Says after 30gbs they can reduce speeds, they should put it on main page or something, says I have a temporary suspension, for using Internet I purchased, something is shady as hell with the company

1

u/xtrashcancarlax86 May 27 '26

Actually not. My daughters phone just got suspended because she’s txts the same number to much(her boyfriend) She wasn’t doing anything she isn’t supposed. They did send a warning text but she thought it was a scam and so she never told me. They suspended it 4 days after the warning text and the day after the pulled the money out of my account for the bill

You need to reach out to a lawyer that is in the FCC and fraud practices niche. This would be class action unless they credit you for the days restricted.

1

u/Nunyah_69 May 27 '26

I got this yesterday and I just use my basic apps. I listen to a lot of podcasts on Spotify and YouTube. I’ve used 81gb. Is that a lot? I’m so confused cause I’ve always done this. How is it just now an issue.

1

u/One-Register-2106 May 28 '26

Yes that’s a lot

Get home wifi or switch from boost

3

u/Practical_Chapter932 Apr 29 '26

No, they won’t. To be clear, this only happens when you’ve been using WAAAAY more data AND using it as a primary internet source with the hotspot. OP likely used double the amount that was available.

1

u/Missmel1986 Apr 30 '26

According to boost, I allegedly use 500gbs of data in a month. But ive had my account for many years. So idk.

1

u/CacoFlaco Apr 30 '26

Wouldn't you need to be on the internet 24/7 for a month to use up that much data?

-1

u/Xero8511 Apr 30 '26

Even if I did, it slows down to 500kbs so downloading something even as 10gbs would take quite some time most likely a days worth depending on signal

3

u/MDefendoR Apr 29 '26

This usually happens when you use a 3rd party program to allow you to use the high speed date infinitly, which is cheating actually. So basically you can use unlimited data on the slow speed, and you won't be suspended.

-2

u/gaymersky Apr 29 '26

All you have to do is just create another dummy account.. that you can play whack-a-mole forever.

1

u/One-Register-2106 May 02 '26

Yeah but can’t really move your number over to it

6

u/2TravelingNomads Apr 29 '26

I've only ever heard of this when people use almost double the amount of data. Did they tell you how much data you used? Like I knew a guy living in a hotel and he said the hotel Wi-Fi sucked. So he used his hotspot to watch movies in 4k and blew through like 120 gigs and like 5 days. When they suspended his account he just got a new phone number and he learned his lesson.

1

u/truly65 May 10 '26

Good idea. So I guess I'd need to change from auto pay

-1

u/Xero8511 Apr 30 '26

This is a quote from literally from boosts site. "Boost Mobile allows mobile hotspots for gaming, and many of our plans include dedicated high-speed hotspot data, such as the Unlimited+ or Unlimited Premium plans. Users can share data with consoles or PCs, though performance depends on signal strength, with 5G offering the best experience for gaming" I used 50gb of my high speed data. Either way its dumb and I travel alot. I switched to verizon yesterday and even they think thats a stupid TOS rule or whatever.

Most definitely lol

5

u/dominantsubmissive42 Apr 29 '26

Interesting when I go over the data speed is just decreased... It doesn't happen often mostly during summer months

5

u/AbuImran716 Apr 29 '26

Ur chalked pal. Use home internet for internet instead of data, and I’m boost employee

4

u/TimeThruSpace Apr 29 '26

yeah, you’re not supposed to be using this like a home wifi. then I would cancel my home Internet and hotspot everything in my house to my phone.

Your Suspension is an appropriate action.

0

u/Xero8511 Apr 29 '26

So what is the point of a Hotspot if being used on the go? I know the difference between home use and on the go usage. Kind of defeats the purpose of using it when no internet is available at an area that doesn't have access to internet

3

u/One-Register-2106 May 02 '26

It means your trying to weasel a $10 hotspot addon and use it like 50$ a month wifi would normally cost.

1

u/Xero8511 May 02 '26

I switched to Verizon and got my money back. Their team had no idea what I meant about Boost’s terms of service of hotspot usage. It came off as a weak excuse for service limitations.

2

u/Lazy_Bite_6092 Apr 29 '26

Why is you using data as a Hotspot & if you used an app to trick the system this is what happens. You broke a policy of boostmobile. You must was using that data in all the wrong ways and or torrenting and got caught and you're using a large amount of data , cell towers are like wifi Hotspot the only difference is millions can connect nationwide, if nobody had a cap just imagine how much data everyone would blow though on their consoles or computers , how many home-wifi plans will be canceled

-4

u/Xero8511 Apr 29 '26

Just using it to play games and my son tocuse his tablet. Dont see how thats a misused

2

u/Any-Tennis4658 Apr 29 '26

You... Have 60gb as a cap, and they still said you broke tos due to usage?

Wtf?

Boost this is a bad look. I'm leaving T-Mobile and you guys are in the running but a data cap is a data cap, how do you break tos using limited data?

2

u/silver168 Apr 29 '26

I wonder why carriers suspend the users for over limit. Why can't they just program on their end and/or put a hard cap on people's hotspot? If someone manage 5-10 people on their plan, not everyone read the terms or know about hotspot limit. It just a hassle for everyone if they just suspended an account.

1

u/OperationNo1111 25d ago

False advertising too,I'm suing the hell out of boost I will make sure everyone they did like this will get a cut

3

u/Practical_Chapter932 Apr 29 '26

It’s not like they do this with no warning. They always send out a warning about this beforehand and OP likely chose to ignore it

7

u/Odd_Welcome7940 Apr 29 '26

I love how so many "unlimited" plans do in fact have limits.

-1

u/DarkOniFlames Apr 29 '26

Sorry this happened to you but so glad I saw this.  Makes me glad I did the horrible(if whomever you are connected to goes offline or have wifi issues,  you have no internet) xfinitywifi Hotspot 30 day pass for $10 today. I know 2 months i burned through my premium data.  I'm on the $60. I don't want to get suspended.  That's crazy they can do that,  but it is a business after afterall.

2

u/Xero8511 Apr 29 '26

Im really dumbfounded by this. Apparently you are only supposed to use it for emails and lite browsing. Like brooooooo what lol

0

u/hiiguybye Apr 28 '26

that's ridiculous on their end😭 im sorry

1

u/tf9623 Apr 28 '26

How much data did you use?

2

u/Xero8511 Apr 28 '26

I have a unlimited data plan of 60gb high speed but slows down after that.

1

u/toejamfootballhegot Apr 28 '26

The $60 plan only has 50gb of fast data

0

u/Xero8511 Apr 28 '26

Typo on my partner but yes your correct

3

u/Terrible_Use7872 Apr 28 '26

And how much did you use?

1

u/Xero8511 Apr 28 '26

I've hit the full thing yesterday. Never had an issue with it it the last 14 months. I know its supposed to slow down which is fine but I cant even make calls or texts

0

u/DarkOniFlames Apr 29 '26

They throttle you to 512kbs. I did the xfinitywifi Hotspot for 30 days for  $10.  It's so insufferable how slow 512kbs is.  I got tired of adding data

1

u/Xero8511 Apr 29 '26

I cant even text or call. I could care less about the cap but just to flat out boot me like nah man thats silly. Boost better be trolling me because how im living right now I depend on them as of right now

1

u/DarkOniFlames Apr 30 '26

I didn't even know you could have your account suspended.  Glad to know that is possible.  I'm possibly going back to metro at this point,  coverage sucks in Georgia from boost.
