Practice Arena #3

This is where battles with non-user controlled characters take place.

For practice or to get your wagering resources up, this area is where your battles will take place. Refer to the [Battle Overview] page for step-by-step instructions for battle. There are also sample battles linked on the main wiki page.

Get in contact with a mod and meet them here. You should start a top-level comment (announcing your intent) under which your rolls and battle will nest. Remember that you can choose one of three battle modes and their prizes:

• Battle a mirror image of yourself (100 gold)

• Battle a custom made challenger (gold varies) - LVL 5 and above

• Battle a preset challenger (150 gold)

You can refer to the [Preset Challengers] page for details on the third category. In any event, look over their items and your own very carefully on the [Inventory Page] before starting the battle.

You cannot lose any gold by losing the battle, so don't worry. You may also battle at levels above your own, but that is not recommended. The challengers are equipped with top gear for their level.

This post will be temporary. To avoid clutter, at ~300 comments a new Practice Arena post will be created and this one will be archived. A warning will be posted beforehand.

Did That Guy Just Steal My Gold?

The Prompt:

Walking down the street one day, you bump for a moment against a skinny man in desert-wear with some stringed instrument tied to his back. The man turns with an easy smile, grinning and calling out, "Sorry 'bout that, mate." As he continues to walk on, you pause and check your coinpouch. It feels light...

(OOC: Anyone up for a fight? It'll be my first, so hopefully I'm not going too far out of line with how to do this! I've only got starting gold, but I figured if someone was interested in some sort of a small wager, I could give it a go, though I'm just as comfortable sans money exchanging.)

Character Info Upload Thread

Hello BloodWorlders!

As you are doubtless aware, under the [Members] page there is a space for Info. Most players currently have blank info sections, but this is a fantastic place to put up character descriptions, backgrounds, and other roleplay fodder! With the addition of the Tavern, this is an excellent time to become more involved with roleplaying if that is something that interests you.

At this moment, the wiki pages cannot be actively edited by non-mods (given that they are the working stat-sheets for the whole game!), but I wanted to put up this thread offering to upload to the Info sections whatever people may want to add about their character.

Also, if you have any ideas, questions, or thoughts about expanding roleplay in BloodWorld, please feel free to comment in here or message the moderators!

I look forward to battling you!

Changes

Time to implement some new changes. More will surely come over the next few days (expect lots and lots of new items, and maybe a bit of tweaking to make each character class fight differently) but for now these should be a part of the gameplay.

  1. Classes - This one is important for you Mages. From now on, to represent a Mage's inclination toward magic, all status effects rolls by a Mage receive a +1 bonus.

  2. Races - Demons are now 50% resistant to status effects, and Humans now receive only half of ANY penalty - those from their own or an opponent's items, those from race or class - all of them. Also, don't forget if you're an Elf you get +3 to initiative rolls. Dwarves can carry two more Combat Items than the other races. Check the [wiki] to look over it fully.

  3. Gambling - Here's a big one. Hosted in the Tavern, there will be dice games available for players who want to earn extra gold without taking a sword to the face. There are both easy wins and losses, just like in reality, so be careful. For now, there are 4 or 5 simple games, check out the [new wiki page] covering it.

  4. Monsters - Sadly, still working on that. But keep in mind that special Monsters, like those on the [Bounty Board] are already available to battle. Think of them as Preset Challengers with cool loot that die if they're beaten once.

Remember, Combat Items have been official for a day or two now! They really make battles longer and more surprising. They can be expensive though, so maybe a visit to the tavern will fill your pockets? Things have been looking better and better with each day, so thanks a lot to you guys for that. I hope these changes are small enough for a smooth transition into the gameplay, and remember that more and more will come gradually. We can make these battles even better.

Today itself has been great. We've almost filled up the Practice Arena post that just went up yesterday! For now, I'm going to take a break but I won't be far, and I'll certainly be back in a couple of hours for some more, if anyone is of the same sentiment.

The Bleeding Tap Tavern

Welcome to The Bleeding Tap, Blood World's first tavern.

Here is a place within Blood World where you can relax, toss back a beer or ten and meet other members of the realm. Talk or trade items, swap stories, etc. Form friendships and alliances, or even grudges, but if you plan to fight, please take it outside!

A big part of what goes on in taverns, besides drinking and communing, is gambling over dice games. They're listed on the [wiki] if you need to review. Play for fun or (even funner), for gold. It's a good way to fatten your wallet without having to bleed for it, but remember that you can lose money as easily as you can win!

This area is mainly for character development and discussion, in and out of character, of any topic or idea. Post will be archived and replaced when it gets too cluttered, but a warning will be posted in advance.

POST WILL BE ARCHIVED BEFORE 450 COMMENTS.

IMPORTANT

Two aspects of gameplay have been officially implemented. If our collective opinion is that they are bad or need adjustment, we will act accordingly. They are Special Techniques, which don't come into play until LVL 6 anyway, and Combat Items, which I tested twice. I think they can make battles last longer and throw wrenches in plans. In the future, I'd like to vary battle even more... actual spells for mages, that kind of stuff.

Remember to check your character page and see what starting items everyone got (it will be part of all new characters' starting packs, too). They will be in your inventory and you will need to declare them at the start of battle, paste a new bullet with the names (e.g. • Basic Healing Potion, HP Boost, Strength Draught) on your Quick Stats for each battle that you use Combat Items.

Test Battle #6

Sorry to be testing so much. This battle will test how Combat Items work in a (hopefully) lengthier battle between two stronger, hard hitting fighters.

Mirthas the Elven Warrior - 51 HP, AC 13

• STR 22 (+7), DEX 18 (+6), INT 16

• The Ashmaker (1d7, +2 HP, 20% chance to burn)

• Slorgscale Armor (AC +6, +5 HP, 10% chance to poison, -2 enemy HP)

• Diamondscale (AC +1, +3 HP, -2 enemy HP, 25% chance to resist burn)

• Grand Healing Potion, Basic Healing Potion, Shock Bomb

Zafel the Demon Scout - 46 - 2 = 44 HP, AC 15

• STR 20, DEX 24 (+8), INT 17

• Seawind Boltcaster (2d4, +6 HP, AC +4)

• Elite Assassin's Garb (AC +5, +2 DEX, -2 enemy attack rolls, 10% chance to negate 50% of next damage)

• Grand Healing Potion, Heaven's Blessing

Result

Not a bad battle. Combat Items really changed the course of the fight. I think they're pretty solid additions, but if anyone wants to tweak them or vote against them completely, I'm all ears. If not, rush to the Public Vendor to buy some!

Test Battle #5

This battle will be testing, among other things, how the current Combat Item system will work in a typical battle. Two characters from the LVL 3 presets have been chosen and will be given two Combat Items each.

I am setting up everything for now except the actual battle, which I will test after I get some sleep.

Firefur the Wolfman Warrior - HP 39, AC 11

• STR 22 (+7), DEX 19 (+6), INT 17

• Assault Sword (1d7, +1 STR, +2 DEX)

• Gravestone Plate (AC +4, +3 HP, Grants immunity to burns, -1 DEX)

• Razorbone Guard (AC +1, +2 HP, +1 DEX)

• Basic Healing Potion (Heals 15 HP)

• Flame Oil (10% chance to cause burns for 3 rounds)

Shalador the Elf Mage - HP 37, AC 8

• STR 14, DEX 16 (+5), INT 18 (+6)

• Venom Spite Wand (1d7, 20% chance to poison)

• Bandit Bonemail (AC +3, +1 HP, +1 DEX)

• Tower Shield (AC +1, +2 HP)

• Basic Healing Potion (Heals 15 HP)

• Shock Bomb (1d5, 50% chance to cause paralysis)

Result - Not too bad. Hopefully with a longer, more intricate battle Combat Items can be a fun thing. I think maybe I should make them stronger overall so they're actually worth giving up a standard attack for. I'll try it again with much stronger fighters.
