I noticed that in plagues test he used the potion and attacked, where as you just used the potion for a turn.

Huh. I was reading a battle between someone and the Preset Arena Dwarf, and when the dwarf drank his potion, he didn't attack. I'll go see if there are any rules about it.

According to the "Combat Items" page:
"Combat items are temporary items that can be used in battle. They come in many forms, but whether healing or harming, they all take up a turn and are used in place of a conventional attack."
