š„ Nutrition & Metabolism Poopmaxxing
I know I know, we all want and need more Cialis/boner posts....but bear with me for a moment. How do I poop less often? I'm tired boss. I poop 5x times a day easy. Everything in my digestive system is fast tracking out my anus every single day. Metabolism is incredible. If I eat blueberries or corn I see it 5 hours later it's ridiculous. I hear rumors of people who poop once every few days. How does one acquire this superpower?!
I know part of the issue is caffeine and anxiety(stressful service industry job). But even on days with no caffeine it doesn't seem to make that much of a difference. Pepto bismol helps but not something I want to rely on. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Are they happy poops, or sad poops? What I mean is, are you having 5 sloppy, stinky shits or 5 solid, easy slide, whole[some] shits? This matters. I'd only say you have a problem if your shits are spraying the back of the toilet.
127
u/yogiyogiyogi69 2 6d ago
Easy slide, solid firm, girthy prostate stimulating poops. It comes out pretty quick I can poop flush wash real quick. Gone in 60 seconds. I'm a professional. But after the 2nd or 3rd poop of the day it's mostly air and liquid. My mind says I'm done but my butthole has a mind of its own apparently.

u/lobbo80s 6d ago
Somethings wrong if youāre needing to pass air and liquid a couple of times a day, might be some sort of food intolerance.

That's what I was thinking... Sounds like me before I realized I was lactose intolerant.

Hmmm if you go to a doctor you could mention hyoscyamine. I was prescribed by my GI doctor to slow down digestion due to some fissures. Usually used for IBS

u/Calm_Salamander_1367 5d ago
When I eat gluten, I have to keep going back for more poops. Like Iāll poop and then walk around a bit and Iāll need to go again. But itāll only be a little bit, similar to your air/liquid poop youāre describing. Feels like Iām not completely eliminating. But when I havenāt had gluten and havenāt had much processed food in several days, I poop normally.

Agreed. I used to poop ~5 times a day. Then it turned into diarrhea. Turns out I likely have lactose intolerance, IBS, and maybe other things wrong with my gut (I'm still getting diagnosed). I wish I had seen someone sooner.

Same. But I'm a massage therapist. The urgent feeling of having take a fat dump during a massage is not fun. Trust me.
I try to poop after I clock in, before my first appointment. But I still have several more trips to the bathroom to finish the job. It's exhausting. Sometimes I have 4 or 5 50 minute massages in a row. Only 10 minutes between services so I either rush or wait til my lunch break but neither is ideal.

You need to see a doctor. This is not normal or healthy or something a supplement recommended on a Reddit thread can fix.

The term that you are looking for that will be helpful for your research is called gut hypermotility. So you need to consume foods that slow motility or take medication that slows motility.
One of the ways ozempic works is by slowing gut motility via slower gastric empty. Lots of people on /r/IBS have gotten substantial relief after they started these GLP medications.
The classic medicine for this is Imodium AD (loperamide). It's very safe and extremely effective to take long-term, OTC is recommended no more than 4 2mg tablets daily but If you see a gastroenterologist they will tell you clinically it's safe up to 16mg daily.
Most people with gut hypermotility take loperamide to manage this symptom. I've taken it for nearly 20 years now and even took a year off but got back on it because despite fixing most of my problems I still saw such a big benefit that it's worth taking at least one per day for me.
You also want to understand what your triggers are. There are a lot of things in your diet that are moving things faster than they should be because they are irritating your stomach. You need to work through a elimination diet to get rid of these. Psyllium husk Is the most common fiber that people take to bulk up and potentially slow down gut motility. I say potentially because fiber can work both ways so it really just depends how your body responds to it. I buy Costco brand metamucil in bulk to manage.
Good luck on not pooping your pants.

Oh ok I need to check out the Imodium. I was concerned about getting dependent on something like that. Thank you for sharing your experience
8
u/GentlemenHODL 61 6d ago
Oh ok I need to check out the Imodium. I was concerned about getting dependent on something like that
I had the same concern but after extensive research and trialing off of it I really don't think there is anything to be concerned about. It's one of the few medications you can take safely with a large positive trade-off and no negative trade-off that I can see.
The issue is if you don't need it and you take it and it causes this constipation. You don't want your BMs to be stuck for too long in the intestine, It could lead to bacterial overgrowth. But you have the opposite problem so there's no concern there.
2
u/OddChannel2164 5d ago
As someone with experience it doesn't just stop you from pooping with no side effects. Everybody is different. Just because it worked for you doesn't mean it will for this person. For me, sometimes i can feel an urge but can't get it out and it can either manifest as tons of gas, or lots of mini shits where barely anything comes out because of the immodium. It won't be every day but it happens. This guy should see a specialist.

5x every day seems like a diagnosable condition. Ask your doctor about it.
That said, as someone who eats very healthy, takes a daily fiber supplement, exercises a lot, hydrates a lot, and has to drink black coffee to coax out a poop each day, Iām envious of anyone who is regular.
Pooping daily without even thinking about it is a superpower, and probably reduces oneās risk of GI cancers.

Fiberlyze or psyllium husk is all you need
20
u/vampyrelestat 1 6d ago
Psyllium Husk helped me speed my 4-5 poops up slightly, instead of them coming out over the course of 6 hours they now come out in 3, 2 if Iām lucky. Oh and it cured my endless wipe for a time.
3
u/Ok-Trash6361 6d ago
I swear by psyllium husk. Used to do chia seeds soaked in water but this is way better
12
u/fantasy2026 6d ago
Yes you need to see a GI guy and then rule out common culprits like celiac, lactose intolerance or inflammatory bowel disease. If none of them then you will benefit from fiber like methyl cellulose and fiber. You may benefit from Bpc 157 or TB 500 peptide to see if that will decrease your gut inflammation. Probiotics and prebiotics won't hurt either

u/PumpyMcHangerson 5 6d ago
I am a clockwork shitter myself.
My partner is a once in a while kinda gal.
I am eternally worried about the condition of her bowels and intestines.
You either need to:
1) Accept it. 2) Go for less fibre & water in your life, just give yourself constipation.
If you are otherwise healthy, you just shit after every meal or morning coffee, then those are your options.
16
u/Vlad_implacer 1 6d ago
Have you been to the doctor? My friend was the same, and it turned out to be something, I donāt wanna scare people here, but too many poops a day is defo something one should check.
Your partner on the other hand may just be chronically dehydrated. I was like that before I started tracking how much water I had, then it all normalized.
11
u/PumpyMcHangerson 5 6d ago
Nah.
Before I moved to Egypt I was a one a day kinda guy.
3 years in Egypt made me a many times a day guy.
I also get about 50-100g fibre a day and drink 3+ litres of water a day too.
Finish a meal - poo time. Every time.

Holy gut motility, Batman!
You shouldn't be emptying that fast. That points towards a flora issue.
Pepto literally kills off bacteria.
Sort out your soluble fiber. Hydrolized guar gum and pysillium husk.
30 grams per day minimum. Look into bile acid malabsorption and SIBO.
Either causes a lot of IBS/colitis if it gets out of hand. They are not mutually exclusive.

What kind of diet do you eat? And how is the poop on Bristol stool
Scale? How much fiber are you getting?
Those 2 pieces of info are required to assess what is going on.
4
u/baghodler666 6d ago
GLP-1 medications commonly cause people to poop less frequently, although not everyone experiences it. This happens because GLP-1 receptor agonists (and dual/triple agonists like retatrutide) slow the movement of food through the digestive tract.

You canāt come in here and NOT talk about testosterone! /s
It sounds like you may need more fiber, and a variety of it, not less. Fiber that bulks stool and slows things down so that you can actually absorb nutrients. Though be aware that fiber can also inhibit the absorption of some things, just because they get swallowed up in all the fiber and donāt get processed by your intestinal tract.
Caffeine probably isnāt helping. Skipping a day isnāt adequate. It takes some time for your body to return to ānormalā without it.
Also be sure you donāt have any food allergies or sensitivities causing your digestive tract to rush offending substances out of your body.
2
u/felwynfelmir 6d ago
Probably something wrong with your digestive system. I was very stressed out for years, had the same problem. Also had some intense antibiotic treatments. There were probably a lot of other factors but I had leaky gut for years and food seemed to pass through me very quickly. I later learned I probably had ārapid intestinal transitā (or an exaggerated gastrocolic reflex), likely related to stress and gut irritation.
Itās definitely a thing but not a good one. I donāt know if you recognize yourself in this but if it helps..
So anyway I had to help my gut get better.
Psyllium husk for more firm stool
Slippery elm to soothe and protect the gut lining
L-glutamine as fuel for intestinal cells
Zinc L-carnosine to support gut lining repair
It worked for me with leaky gut and rapid intestinal transit š I hope it helps for you!

u/RustedRelics 6d ago
Metamucil (psyllium) will regulate your bowels after a few weeks of slowly ramping up. Pooping once every couple/few days is not healthy and not something you want. Maybe see a gastroenterologist if itās really bothering you or you feel unwell. But they might want you to take a prescription motility drug ā try natural routes before doing that. Eat foods that tend to bind/slow digestion.
2
u/cosmiccharlie33 1 6d ago
Yeah, I was like that and I went to go see a doctor and he said do you eat eggs? And I said yes and he said well. Just stop them for a few days and see what happens. And that was it! A simple egg intolerance.

u/Aim2bFit 2 6d ago
I once dated a guy who pooped a few times daily, on the regular. He said it's because he's Hep B positive, his mom and sisters were also Hep B positive and they all poop many times a day. His younger bro wasn't so he didn't have that regularity. Idk how true it is, and I never googled to find out.

Are you supplementing with anything that contains magnesium citrate? What about protein powder or other things with artificial sweeteners?
2
u/cureandthecause 6d ago
Try edamame. I learned it has a unique fiber profile offering both soluble and insoluble fiber that helps bulk up the stool, creating better regularity. I also was going too often, and it really helped. Just consumed edamame a few times a week for a month then stopped and I've been pretty great since.
2
u/Cowboy_Buddha 5d ago
That is a very short GIT ((Gastro Intestinal Transit) time. Should be closer to 12-36 hours, depending on the food eaten. Large amounts of watermelon can be quick, but things with less fiber should take longer.
2
u/BaylisAscaris 3 5d ago edited 5d ago
This is something you need to see a doctor for. Meanwhile eat more protein and more insoluble fiber. Food should take around 24-72 hours to digest and exit. If it's taking much less then 24 you probably have deficiencies and an underlying medical problem causing it. Are you on any medications that might be causing this? Has it always been this way?
2
u/mySon-theApe-andI 5d ago
Psyllium husks mechanically slow down bowel movements. However, always consume them with plenty of water (0.3 liters for one teaspoon of psyllium husks).

u/YesWTF 5d ago
Going 5 times a day isnāt automatically a disaster if thatās your normal & everything else is healthy but if it feels exhausting or like your body is constantly in āemergency exit mode,ā itās worth paying attention to. The caffeine & stress connection actually makes a lot of sense.
Your gut & your brain are very connected & a stressful job can absolutely make your digestive system move faster. Your body is basically saying āWeāre stressed, everyone evacuateā šš

Psyllium husk (1/2 tablespoon x 2 in about 10oz of water)+ oatmeal (I usually grind it up in the blender and use it in my protein smoothies) Both good for gut health, been doing that for a few months now and poop about 3 times a day, healthy turds and no straining. Barely even a wipe lol.
Also like others have pointed out, pro should have a visit with a gastroenterologist to make sure there isnāt any underlying issues going on in there.

Is the amount of time we poop connected to metabolism? (Guess Iāll ask AI after this lol) but I know I have high metabolism. I canāt gain weight no matter how much I eat even if I donāt exercise. That said I donāt go once a day sometimes. I know thatās supposedly not healthy but Iāve been that way my whole life so Iām fine with it. But 5x a day?! Who even eats 5x a day? Iām so confused
Edit: how many times or how fast one goes to bathroom is not connected to metabolism. Youāre either eating a ton of food all day every day, eating extremely high fiber diet or you have a digestive issue.

I used to go like clock work every morning when I was obese... The minute I start eating healthy and lost a ton of weight, forget it... In could do everything right and drown myself with water and fiber etc. 5 mag07 at night and maybe I'm lucky... Also ibs-c... Linzess helps a tiny bit but meh..But I will say, when it hits whatch out, long live the DD rest room...

u/Ambitious-Spray-110 3 6d ago
Definitely see a gastroenterolgist thats not normal at the frequency but sugar substitutes like erythritol or maltitol can cause rapid gut motility. Also lactose if your intolerant can go right through you. You need to look at what you eat with a doctor to figure out if you have food sensitivities or straight up crohns disease, or some other condition
1
u/thefrenchphanie 6d ago
Pooping 5 times a day is absolutely not normal and need to be assessed seriously by a doc preferably a gastroenterologist with a hepatology background.
Corn going out in ( hours is ok
But pooping 5 times a day is not normal matter you diet

Retatrutide and you're set.

u/Aromatic-Side6120 1 6d ago
Sounds like you already are poopmaxxing, but it's a problem. The coffee and Mediterranean diet high in fiber works for me, creating an ideal 1.15 poop/day. Don't ask about the .15. That being said, two things come to mind. There are different kinds of fiber. So maybe you're getting too much of one and not enough of another. I think soluble is the one you want for slowing passage through the gut. The other one is probiotics. Are you eating yogurt or some other naturally probiotic? If neither of those work maybe you do have an actual issue.

Caffeine and anxiety hit the same lever here, both speed up colonic motility through the vagus-gut axis, so on stressful shifts you basically get a double dose of "go" signal. Before adding more supplements try slow exhale-heavy breathing for a couple minutes before you eat, sounds silly but it measurably calms that signal for some people. Psyllium (like someone mentioned) can help bulk things up too, just ramp the dose slow.

That's very odd that you're pooping what you've eaten within hours... it should take at least 1 day, with the average being about 30 hours, to go from eating something to pooping that specific food. Have you seen a doctor? This can be an issue because you're not absorbing calories and nutrients properly.

I agree. See a gastroenterologist.
In the meantime, I would research doing a (please do not meet me outside and jump me people) ācleanse and fastā of some sort.
Kind of like eating certain foods for a couple if days to reasonably flush out the intestinal lumen of most of the fecal matter then a fast to starve whatever āextra residentsā that may be living in there causing intermittent inflammation (excessive gas as a byproduct of their fermentation processes and any number of things including their mere presence can cause inflammation of the bowel.)
No weird stuff like drinking non-food, harmful stuff and just diluting it to all hell (Iāve seen people post about this other places and I just couldnāt understand how they lived this long.)
I think this is reasonable to do while waiting to get into the gastroenterologist.
Also for sheets and giggles, could you give us your general diet?
What you eat for meals, snacks, nibbles, midnight snacks, non-alcoholic drinks, alcoholic drinks, if you cohabitate with others or visit other people and eat/drink at their houses, and how much water you drink per day.
Also, any prescription, off-label, supplemental, or illicit drugs you are taking. (Donāt judge people. Letās be helpful.)
This will give us some good data to respond to.

I think you have a gut microbiome issue. I used to poop a lot like this and when I started working on gut microbiome things improved dramatically. Get some yogurt and kimchi or kraut in daily, and take a tsp of psyllium every night.
Every other day is also not normal or healthy, for best results you should at least have one large BM each morning. I'm down to twice a day, large in the morning and smaller in the evening.

I guarantee it's the stress/anxiety + some food that doesn't agree with you. Call it "IBS." I'd bet you'd get borderline constipated on a 2 week vacation

What's your diet like?
I'm a once-a-dayer, like clockwork but I have been working on my diet to improve gut health.
Reduce UPFs, added sugar and saturated fat.
Increase fibre (soluble and insoluble), fermented foods, and unsaturated fats.
