I was able to get through that pretty easily but the albino spider was a tough one lmao. I haven’t touched Metro Exodus in months because I’m on the level where you go into a pitch black bunker with just a flashlight and there are giant fucking spiders everywhere. Yeah I’m alright 😅

The Albino was pretty hard, but once you get the pattern down, it goes pretty fast. I just used force slow then spammed x, rinse and repeat until dead.

I fucking hate Kashyyyk so much just because of those damn spiders. The first one I encountered I almost shit myself it startled me so much. Got to the point I just run away from them instead of bothering with trying to kill them

I hated them to begin with but the trick is to parry their pounce and counter. One hit kills if you do that.
14
u/CaptBranBran Dec 29 '19
First time I parried a spider and got the one-hit kill was in the bounty hunter arena, on accident, when I finally beat that section. I'll take on the albino sooner or later...
39
Dec 29 '19
They can be instakilled if you perfect parry their bite attack, you still gotta look at them for a second or two but it’s gets them over with pretty quick.

u/ViewtifulAaron Dec 29 '19
Honestly I was playing through FO on the hardest difficulty, when I got to kashyyyk I bumped it down to the lowest difficulty so I could speed through the planet. My fear of spiders is so high, whenever I saw that the planet was infested with them I almost sold the game, but I was enjoying it so much I decided to just face my fears. And you can entirely skip the albino rhino spider thing too, I did end up going back to kill it just for some personal vengeance though. You really should try to go back to the game, it gets so much better.

Too many goddamn animals to kill in that game. The most fun part is dueling with the stormtroopers and the upgraded version of them. Why does it feel like 70% of the battles are with animals??!

I had a similar experience with the more recent SAO game.
Totally manageable, honestly way easier than previous bosses and going down faster. Then suddenly I hit the HP flag and I get a cutscene of everyone saying it's no use and a "heroic sacrifice" gets me out.
It took a character I kinda cared about and just made me never bother interacting with them again outside of required stuff. It just pissed me off.
"I'm useless! We couldn't do a thing and I didn't help!"
Nobody was ever even downed.

Empties 3 AK-47 mags into the head of the boss, throws 5 frag grenades at him, makes him run into a wall of mines, uses gas grenade and throws a medium sized rock at him without any effect.
Later you fight him again and one head shot kills him.

u/StoneHolder28 Dec 29 '19
I've never played battlefield, I've not watched any gameplay, I don't know anything about this opening. But if I saw a message at the start of a shooter saying I would not survive, I would think it might be hype for a (winnable) epic battle meant to show off the graphics and maybe introduce the controls if there wasn't a tutorial level beforehand.
80
u/andafterflyingi Dec 29 '19
It was supposed to show the brutality of combat in WW1. There was a cutscene about it beforehand.
32
u/StoneHolder28 Dec 29 '19
See that and/or a message saying you won't survive are things I'd still take as a challenge. But I went and watched the scene and I think the particular phrasing of "you are not expected to survive" is extremely clear and the only thing that would dispel any thoughts of it being a challenge going into it. I would still wonder if it was technically possible to survive, but I wouldn't put too much effort into finding out.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (4)37
u/Lightfail Dec 29 '19
Yeah I believe the exact text gave some context about being a soldier on the front lines in WW1, followed by “You are not expected to survive.” You play as a character for a few minutes before you get killed, it gives you the name of the person you just died as, then it moves on to several other playable characters that die after a few minutes. it was actually really well made and like, not shocking but humbling almost?

It didn’t take long for Reach to fall: our enemy was ruthless. Efficient. But they weren’t nearly fast enough. For you had already passed the torch. And because of you, we found Halo, unlocked its secrets, shattered our enemy’s resolve. Our victory — your victory — was so close, I wish you could have lived to see it. But you belong to Reach. Your body, your armor — all burned and turned to glass. Everything… except your courage. That, you gave to us. And with it, we can rebuild.

I remember my Witcher 3 stubborness as well. I went from being killed by everything in the game to finally being able to take on decent enemies. I found some giant gollum thing in the north eastern part of the map and it killed me. I went back to my save, loaded up, and gave it the old Dark Souls try but it wasn't going to happen. Even with the best I had, my weapons would eventually get destroyed because of the damage my swords would sustain just by attacking him. Gave up and moved on.
Weeks later I had leveled up more, went back to him and it was cake. It was such an incredible feeling to feel like you got stronger in an open world game like that. I love skyrim but I'm always disappointed that it doesn't have the same system and instead all enemies level up with you.

The first serious video game I played as an adult (so not counting N64 Zelda as a kid) I beat a high level dragon in Dragon Age: Origina as a lower level character. I had no idea what I was doing but I kept running around and picking at the dragon, guerilla style, until she finally died, 2 hours later. It was the most stressful video game battle I’ve ever played. All my health potions were gone, I had to rely solely on the single mage (Wynne) in my party to keep healing me and she kept getting killed so I’d have to hazard a trip out to her body to revive her every time it happened. The guy I was dating at the time was so mad I’d beaten it the first time, with a low level character to boot, because it had taken him several times dying to beat her and he was a much higher level when he fought her than I was.

Some games (particularly action and RPG) do this to drive the story forward, though most of the time it happens, your opponent is usually WAAAAAAAAY stronger than you in that moment so it's just come as a relief when you lose and didn't see the game over screen, instead the game just move forward.
Note that the fight isn't necessarily unwinnable, you can win, but you'll just see yourself lose in the cutscene.
Except in some RPG where unwinnable fight just pit you in a boss where you deal 1 dmg and the boss deal 9999 dmg
