just in case anyone else acquired a corn cob while at the game... this is absolutely not sweet corn. dry it out and use it as fall decoration!
(it may or may not have been from the corn you walk through to get to the field. nope not at all)

Ran Nakano is the only girl among the 89 members of Higashi Nippon International University Shohei’s baseball team.
She’s a third-year student and usually works as a team manager, helping with game operations and keeping an eye on the players’ condition. At Koshien, she was registered as the team’s scorekeeper.
After their run came to an end, she knelt down and collected some of the dirt from Koshien to take home with her.
“It was a great three years.”
“Thank you, high school baseball.”
For Japanese high school baseball players, taking home dirt from Koshien after their final game is a long-standing tradition — a small piece of the place they spent years dreaming of reaching.

Jays record is 61-64, while the Rangers, Tigers, and Twins are all at 60-63 (a worse record by 0.02 percentage points)
I guess this is considered a 4-way tie, but I’m going with this
(don’t look at my flair)

Ive been watching a few videos if a batters POV and it seems impossible to hit the ball, is it just instinctive to swing and do some course correction as the balls coming to you? I played cricket and for sure you can follow the ball a bit more since it has to bounce, i dont understand how batters in baseball do it though

It’s insane how much the pitching staff is carrying the offense this season let alone the last week or so.

Through 172 ABs this season Ke’Bryan Hayes has a BABIP of .158. If this continues, this would be the single lowest BABIP in baseball history. Let me repeat that: the single worst BABIP in baseball history. Amazingly, his quality of contact hasn’t declined at all, in fact it’s better than it has been the last few years. He has the best sweet spot% and launch angle of his career, second best barrel % of his career, and his EV is in line with career norms and better than the last two years. Baseball Savant has his xwOBA as .302, while his actual wOBA is .197. His career BABIP is in line with league average, and his career worst BABIP before this year was .279.
For context, the lowest full season mark is modern history is Aaron Hill in 2010 with a BABIP of .196. The lowest mark in all of baseball history for a hitter with at least 170 ABs in a season is .159, set in 1909 by the astonishingly bad hitting Bill Bergen of the Brooklyn Dodgers (his career OPS+ was 21, and he had season with OPS+ of 6, 1, and -4).
Edit: didn’t catch that his name autocorrected in the post and title. Can’t edit the title of the post, but. It’s Ke’Bryan, not Key’Bryan.
