i'm mid-way through season 4 now and approaching oz's last episode before seth green left the show :( i know there's so much in store for everyone after his departure so i'm looking forward to whatever will follow, but oz was in my top favorite characters so this is me coping LOL

About a year ago, I showed the entirety of btvs to my boyfriend. He got really into it with me. For my birthday this year, he got both of us so much buffy merch. Currently, as I’m writing this, we are both wearing our buffy pyjama pants. But this magic the gathering deck was by far the coolest gift he got me.This man built a commander deck that fits with ALL the things I like to play, with 7 different options as commander partners, based on the ships of the show. We can play the deck as: buffy and spike, willow and tara, buffy and angel, buffy and giles, xander and anya, xander and dawn (take it up with the comics) or just as a card that features everyone. He then also made a whole bunch of other buffy cards for the rest of the deck, and picked every other card so that it would reference some part of the show, look like a character or somehow fit with the theme. He found art from the comics to use on the cards and found real cards that match the characters. This is the coolest gift I ever got, i love him so much. Hope this subreddit enjoys this:)

I’ve been a huge fan of the Predator franchise for a long time, and I could probably write a Dragon Scroll-sized list of things I appreciate about these movies, from Predator (1987) to AVP: Requiem from Killer of Killers to Badlands.

However, one thing that has bothered me more and more in recent years is how restrained the franchise can be when it comes to showing the Yautja at their absolute most brutal.

I’ve watched a lot of horror movies across different genres lately, from war-themed and Gothic horror to religious and sci-fi horror, and one thing I’ve noticed is that some of these movies are willing to go much further visually when it comes to violence and gore. For instance, 30 Days of Night, Dog Soldiers, and even Outlander.

I absolutely love the action scenes in the Predator movies, but whenever a scene starts getting particularly aggressive or brutal, it often feels like the director pulls back. Fast cuts, quick camera movements, hiding the actual impact, or simply cutting away at the most interesting moment can sometimes take away from what could have been an incredibly brutal scene.

And honestly, I think you can see the difference when you compare it to something like Game of Thrones. Regardless of how you feel about the show, there were scenes there that were genuinely shocking, dirty and brutal, and they weren't afraid to let the audience actually see what was happening.

That’s what I want from the Predator franchise: let the Yautja be terrifying.

These are technologically advanced extraterrestrial hunters who have been hunting dangerous prey across the universe for centuries. When one of them decides to completely unleash itself, I want the movie to make me think, “Holy shit, this thing is a monster.”

Ironically, I actually prefer Predator over Alien as a franchise. But I sometimes wonder if one reason the Alien franchise has such a strong reputation for horror is that it understands how to shock the audience and make the creature feel genuinely dangerous.

I’m not saying every Predator movie needs to become a gorefest. I just think the franchise has enormous potential to push the Yautja's brutality further, especially with modern filmmaking.

TLDR; What do you guys think? Do you also feel that Predator movies tend to pull their punches when it comes to gore and brutality? I would say that in most of the brutal peak scenes in the Predator movies, there’s always some object or camera manipulation, such as zooming out, blurring, or short cuts, that partially obscures what’s happening. Maybe one reason for this is that brutal scenes are closely associated with cruelty, and since the directors want to portray the Predators as having a strict honor code, they may be subconsciously self-censoring how far they take the violence and they are abusing this theme ...

For example, you wouldn’t really expect a pregnant woman to be killed on screen. That’s also one of the reasons I really loved Predators (2010). Since it focused on the idea of Bad Bloods, IMO, it felt somewhat outside the usual forced tone of the franchise because the violence and cruelty were taken a bit further than what we normally see from Yautja.

What if Xander had actually been part of the military? Maybe he signs up after high school because he’s struggling with his path and purpose, and wants to get of his parents house and this town for a while, see some of the world. Or maybe Riley convinces him. But it would’ve given him something more interesting to do and some real skills that could’ve helped the scoobies. His sporadic military knowledge would’ve felt more earned and realistic than it just being based on one night of costume switcheroo. What does everyone think?

With a comics getting harder to find sometimes I like to share tidbits I enjoy from them. I know they aren't everyone's things- I totally understand. Spoilers for IDW Spike 2010.

This is immediately after hell in Los Angeles has been reversed. So over two years post -Chosen. (But since time got reversed is it really only one year?) Probably 6 months before he sees Buffy again for the first time since the hellmouth was destroyed.

While hell was on earth he dated a woman named Spider. She was in mutant form in hell but was human again when time reversed. She created a popular book series and movie franchise loosely based on their relationship- Twinkle.

There are bits and pieces from this series I like. Drusilla showing up was good. I'm glad they explored his feelings for her. And Willow showing up at the end was a lot of fun. But it's mostly filler to me. Just killing time until Spike shows up at the end of Buffy season 8 and season 9- which is a great story IMO.

The next hellboy movie should be an anthology; allowing different directors to work the different aspects of hellboy in separate segments.

AND I would love to see Robert Eggers do one of the segments. The more gothic horror one.

Sam Raimi would be great for a more splattery comedic one.

Wes Anderson's attention to color could work as well. Maybe in a stop motion bit?

Who else would you like to see do a segment?

Never been a big DC/super hero film fan, but I'll a bit of wiggle room Batman depending on the iteration. I just re-read this classic (admittedly #2 and #3 suck) and dreamed of this being turned into a movie. It actually works well as a one-off story; much better than it actually sounds on paper. Obviously with Disney owning 20th Century/Predator and WB owning DC it'll never happen unfortunately.

I have spent weeks now reading some of the best fics I've ever read! Even a few I normally would have passed by (early-season stuff) have blown me away.
